He thought of something that wouldn't get him reamed. "Like…..challenging her to a race or something?"
He thought of something that wouldn't get him reamed. "Like…..challenging her to a race or something?"
The woman rolled her eyes. "You're helpless." She finally stopped and tapped a random spot along the earthen wall. The dirt tumbled away to reveal an opening to the land above. "And here's your exit. I wish you the best of luck."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence," he said, giving her a nod of thanks as he walked through the opening. What a fucking mess.
She waved in farewell, and the opening closed back up behind Runner. Tessa still didn't stir. She had indeed blacked out, her fear overwhelming her and consuming her.
"Shit…" he cursed, searching around for a way to get off of this goddamned world. "How am I supposed to get outta here?"
A very subtle weight made itself known in one of his pockets. Inside was a portal gem already spelled to take him to the Isic empire. Rhianon had heard and offered him this little bit of help.
He felt the weight and sighed in releif, slipping his hand into his pocket and pulling it out. "Thank you mom. I love you too."
Tessa's eyes snapped open–after being hurtled out of a really unpleasant nightmare–and scrambled away from Runner in a panic. It wasn't him she was running away from–it was the people in her dream. It took a solid ten seconds for her to distinguish between dream and reality.
He put his hands up in surprise, raising hs eyebrows as she backed away from him. "Woah, dragon girl. Don't shoot, I'm a friendly."
She stared at him for another five seconds before looking away in shame. "Sorry…"
He waved off the apology. :It's no big deal. You didn't hit mme or anything." He looked down at the crystal in his hand, frowning. "I have no clue what the ass the Isic empire is."
She cleared her throat and built her walls back up. "It's ancient and only just now recovering from years of enslavement and captivity. The people are shapeshifters and have a special relationship with animals." She looked a tad smug as she added this last part, "And it's located on their world's equator and in a savannah."
"Okay, smartass," he said, tossing the gem over to Tess, "Let's go, then."
She proceeded to smash the gem. From the sad remains of the precious jewel, a portal sprung up. "After you, Princeling."
He shook his head, grinning slightly. "After you, dragon girl."
"Can't, the portal will close after me since I activated it." She raised a brow. "Unless you want to be left in the literal dust?"
"I dunno," Runner said, kicking some of that dust up, "It looks pretty-"
"Hey!" a voice shouted as a hole in the ground opened up.
He turned back to Tess and shrugged. "Okay, fine. You win this time."
He walked through the portal, grumbling about oversized moles.
Tessa snickered and apologized on behalf of Runner before trailing after him.
The emerged in the middle of a cobbled road, horses and other creatures strolling up and down it as if they had all the time in the world. A large but simple looking palace nestled between large trees before them, watching over the bustling city around it. The houses were short and stout, simple but practical. Dark skinned and dark haired people strolled by Runner and Tessa, barely giving them more than a passing glance. Most already knew Tessa, so none were alarmed. And the heat.
"Holy fucking shit," Runner said, wincing as the humidity greeted him like a punch. "And I thought the Amazon was hot as hell."
"I said this was on the equator." Strangely enough, Tessa looked right at home–besides being perhaps the brightest person on the streets. But that didn't make her stand out much either, as the people were dressed in bright colors and exotic patterns. Buildings were painted with similar brightness and strangeness. "They only get one winter every," she cocked her head as she thought. "Either every 100 years or every 1,000 years. And when winter comes, it hits hard. The snow and ice ain't pulling any punches here."
He felt out of place in such plain, grey clothing in such a colorful place. "Alright, well, lets go hide somewhere until one of these fucks notice us and tell that demon fucker."
"Trust me, no one here is going to do such a thing. Agdrin is the one that enslaved their entire people and put them into captivity for centuries. The empress is allied with Cinthia, Agdrin's mortal–immortal?–enemy. Her loyalty, as well as her people's loyalty, is fierce. You can trust them to have your back."
"To be honest, I'm having problems trusting anything after today's events," he admitted, running a hand through his hair.
"Hey, I trust no one." She held up her hands and smiled slightly, walking backward through the street without even looking where she was going. People easily moved out of her way and even offered kind greetings and smiles.
He just felt out of place, in a completely different culture literally the day he met his mom after 8 years of being gone. The entirety of the day was jsut starting to stack up on him as they walked.
