The other tribesman were nowhere to be seen. They had abandoned this man at the first sight of Runner's dragon.
"You fools! You will all perish! No one can beat him, NO ONE!"

"We'll see about that, now won't we?" Tessa wasn't amused, and she was thoroughly done with this place. This man had single-handedly ruined it all. She had another place in mind for them to go, but she wasn't sure if they would be welcomed there.
"Let him go," Runner said, shaking his head slightly. "He's gone insane, and I doubt he's any danger to us anymore."
Tessa jerked back, letting the man fall to the ground from his sudden release. She managed to wrestle some control back from her dragon. "I know of an alternate place we could lay low at… But I'm not sure they'll let us in."
"I think it would be a bit better than this," he said as the tribesman ran away, dropping the knife mid-step.
"I dunno. There are at least trees here to keep us hidden…" She looked around skeptically. "But it's worth a shot."
He switched back from his dragon form, wincing as he put a hand on his neck. the dart was still there, so he yanked it out with a yelp. "Motherfucker…"
Tessa reverted back to her normal human form as well, shaking out the stray bits of twigs and leaves from her hair. "Think you can portal us to Sarreque?"
He nodded, his face clenched up in a grimace. "Yeah…I think?"
She gave him a flat look. "You can't, can you?"
"….No, not at all," he admitted, continuing to rub the spot where he was hit by the dart.
She sighed, turned around, and hooked her fingers in her mouth, blowing. A sharp whistle rang through the rainforest, then echoed for a bit even after she stopped. She put her hands on her hips and kept her gaze directed towards the sky.
(What did she call for?)
(A shadow drake that belongs to Cinthia. He responds to Tessa as well since she helped to raise him)
He frowned, looking in the direction Tess was. "Something dark. Darker than even the magic that corrupted my mother. I can't get much else off it."
"That would be because you're sensing a shadow demon known as a Drake." She looked over her shoulder at Runner with a small smile. "He's a cutie, don't worry."
"Never said I was," he said as a small black dot appeared in the sky. "Just a bit confused."
The drake finally landed in front of Tessa with a huff, nuzzling her affectionately as leaves and twigs scattered from its landing. It seemed to suck the light from the small section of the forest they were in. Though it seemed hunched over thanks to it using its wings as front legs, its long neck doubled its height to about twice as tall as Tess.
Tessa cupped her hands around its bottom jaw and chuckled, lifting the demon's head up. "Hey there, sweetie. Ready to go for a flight?" The demon made a rumbling sound in its throat. Its tail swished back and forth like a dog wagging its tail.
"Do we need to ride it to get where we're going?" he asked, tilting his head at their odd interactions.
"Uhhh, yeah?" Tessa said as she turned to look over her shoulder. "Shadow demons can hop realms with relative ease, thanks to their…uh…somewhat of a lack of a physical body. They are technically just shadows after all."
He shrugged. "Fair enough. We should probably get going now. The other tribes undoubtibly saw the demon and are on their way right now."
"Andiamo, idiota," she said as she pulled herself up onto the demon. She patted its neck and flicked her eyes over to Runner.
He didn't understand the exact words of what she said, but the meaning was clear. He climbed up the side of the demon, far back enough that Tess couldn't compain about him being too close.
She rolled her eyes and wrapped her legs around the demon's neck. "You might want to hang on to something, little fae prince. Malakai likes going fast, and who knows where you'll end up once he turns to shadows."
"Probably somewhere not nice," he agreed, grabbing hold of one of Malakai's spines.
(NJDJDC what if she calls him Prince in Italian when they start getting lovey dovey)
