John stood up from the couch and approached her. He took her arms in a light grasp, "Mirelle.."
John stood up from the couch and approached her. He took her arms in a light grasp, "Mirelle.."
(Thanks!)
Mirelle winced and looked up at him. "Yes?" she asked softly.
He turned his face towards her, "We'll be okay. You'll be okay."
"Does your wife know about me?" The question finally came out.
"No…" John inhaled slowly, "She doesn't.."
Bailey's brows hooded over, keeping the snowflakes from billowing into his eyes. His boots crunched in the dry snow on his way to the barn.
George trailed after, a slight smile tugging at his lips as he took in the scenery around him.
Bailey disappeared into the warm and dark of the barn, saddling himself on the horse and waiting for George to do the same.
George followed Bailey’s example, smiling over at the other man.
"Got yourself?" Bailey asked him, as always before heading off on horseback.
"No…" John inhaled slowly, "She doesn't.."
Mirelle tucked her hair behind her ear. "What are we doing, John…?"
John didn't grace her with an answer, only starchy silence.
"You shouldn't be here," she continued quietly.
He let go of her arms, "Why are you so eager to see me go…?"
"I'm not, I just…" She stopped herself by biting her lip. It certainly wasn't her place to say.
"You just…" he echoed gently, "You just what?"
"I just love you, and I'm worried about you getting caught and being in trouble," she finished softly.
"I won't get caught." He replied, mostly for himself to hear.
"You don't know that!"
He took a step away, "I have to go."
She lowered her eyes and nodded. She'd never felt so much shame for something she'd done.
He exhaled heavily, and turned to leave.
"Got yourself?" Bailey asked him, as always before heading off on horseback.
George followed close behind, taking deep breaths of the crisp air.
Bailey repeated his question, a little gentler. He admired, sometimes, how George could become so engulfed in the moment. Bailey was too cold, too practical, too paranoid, to let himself relax.
"Hm? Oh yes," George murmured, letting his eyes drift around their quaint surroundings.
"Mm, in the clouds as usual.." Bailey teased.
A smile tugged at George's lips. "You know I can't help it."
He held back so their horses walked side by side into the winding road, into the threshold of glittering white woods. A red breasted robin flashed across their path, releasing a startled warble.
