"Cool name, too," she smiled back, although her smile wasn't as full of energy. "It sounds Asian, like Japanese maybe?"
"Cool name, too," she smiled back, although her smile wasn't as full of energy. "It sounds Asian, like Japanese maybe?"
"Yeah! Actually it is Japanese! I like to stick to Japan's cultures, so I've adopted the nickname Saori-chan! You have a cool name too!" Saori exclaimed, happy that she knew a classmate. Friend, hopefully, she thought.
"Thanks. You know, I'm Japanese. Although you probably already could tell," she laughed. "Unfortunately I don't really know much about Japanese culture though."
(after them getting to know each other a bit more can we skip to the end of the school day?)
(sure)
"Oh cool!" Saori replied. "Maybe you could come over to my place and we could chat a bit more than a school day allows?"
"Uh, yeah, sure. I guess Abby wouldn't mind. I'll text her, she'll probably reply before school is over." To be honest, she wasn't really looking forward to it. She had a problem making friends, and this girl wasn't exactly her type. But, she didn't want to be mean, so she went ahead and said yes.
"Cool! I think class is about to begin, though…" Saori replied, smiling.
TIMESKIP: THAT AFTERNOON
Gwen walked down the hallway in the direction of the hub to wait for Saori-Chan. She wasn’t really paying attention; one earbud in, one out, walking but zoned out. Abby has texted earlier that day saying it was ok, so all hopes she had of the plans being foiled were out the window.
Later, Saori came rushing up to Gwen. "I'm so sorry I'm late! I was kept behind last period…" She rushed to apologize, her face pained.
“Oh no, it’s ok,” she gave a reassuring smile. This girl did seem nice. “Honestly I wasn’t waiting that long. You ready to go?”
(Bump)
(Oh so sorry! I think I must've clicked on this and accidentally forgot to reply!!! Ack)
"Oh, uh, yeah!" Saori smiled back. "Let's go! My place is a bit from here, so I usually take a bus, are you okay with that?"
(Np I do that sometimes too lol)
“Yeah, that’s fine. You know, since I’m new here, I’ve never really hung out with anybody before. I’m not really good at making friends, just to let you know.” Her purpose for those words was to make Saori a bit cautious, but she wasn’t trying to be mean. She knew she was trouble, she just wanted Saori to know that.
(Hey sorry I edited my reply since I forgot Gwen is the new one. You might want to edit yours too)
(Oh that's fine! I'll just repost my reply)
"I'm fine with that, I… don't really have any friends either," Saori replied, giving a tiny smile.
“Huh. Well, let’s go then,” she replied and turned in the direction of the buses. “By the way, I’m hungry. You got anything to eat at your house?”
Saori thought for a bit. "We have sushi at home?" she offered, turning the statement into a question as they boarded the bus.
She wrinkled her nose. “I like fish, but please tell me it’s cooked sushi. I can’t stand the idea of eating raw meat.”
"I'm sure we can arrange that," she replied, smiling a bit. Perhaps this girl could really be a friend to her… but there were no guarantees and Saori let out a sigh.
She laughed when Saori let out the sigh, and slumped down in her seat. “School made you that tired?”
Saori smiled a tiny bit. "No, not really. Just a long week ahead," she lied. Well, it wasn't really a lie, she told herself. Just not giving her the whole truth. I do have a long week ahead.
“Huh. I know the feeling,” she replied. She didn’t want to elaborate on how her long weeks usually ended up being weeks of her skipping school. “So, I’m curious. How much do you actually know about Japanese culture? Because you seem pretty well educated about it. I honestly have no idea about any of it.”
(Just so you know I'm slightly altering Saori's backstory, so she wasn't one when she was adopted)
"Well, I had kindergarten and first grade in Japan, and then when my mum and I moved here, I took it upon myself to learn about the Japanese culture on my own, since I wasn't living in Japan anymore. I hope to go to a college in Japan someday, I'm mostly fluent in their language," she explained. "Their culture is really interesting!"
