He raised an eyebrow. “Now what makes you think that?”

"Better question: What doesn't?"

He sighed. “Oh my god I don’t hate you. Stop thinking that. I saved you because I wanted to. There’s no reason”

She fell silent, wrapping her arms around herself quietly.

He seemed to calm down a bit. “Look….I just think no one deserves to be treated like how your brother treats you. So..I want to keep you safe.”

"Clearly I do or else he wouldn't treat me the way he does."

“You don’t. I know that’s what he makes you think, that’s what abusers do, they make everything be your fault instead of theirs.”

"He's not abusive! He's just…really protective, that's all."

“Uh huh sure”

"He's not…" Her voice was weak, unsure.

“Hey I thought you said we weren’t going to talk about serious stuff right now.”He said, attempting to distract her from the bad thoughts.

"Right, right, sorry." She tried to force her mind back into reality.

“So you have any basic questions for me?”

She shook her head. "No, not really." She already hated the fact that she was still alive, much less that he had saved her and now she had to deal with the weight of that guilt.

“Aw cmon. There’s got to be something you want to know”

"No, really, I don't. I've got enough things going on in my head, I don't need more on top of it."

He made an over dramatic pouty face at her before asking, “do you want to try and sleep or something?”

She tensed up at the idea of sleeping and whimpered. "Please no…"

“Okayyyyy. Are you hungry at all?”

She shook her head, feeling sick to her stomach at the mere thought of eating.

“Ooh I know! Stay here I’ll be right back”

She nodded slowly, staring off into space and falling into her own thoughts once again.

He came back a few minutes later, failing at carrying what had to be the biggest dog ever.

She smiled a little. She always loved dogs but had never been able to have one herself.

“Meet the biggest softy ever.” He said, setting the dog down with a grunt. “This is Zeus”
