Lucas came to about ten to fifteen seconds later, seeming a bit dazed, but otherwise okay. Despite this, his mother insisted upon the king carrying him to the medic, which he did. The king ignored Lucas's protests while they walked.
Callie looked around, and seeing that no one was paying too much attention to him, decided to follow Lucas to the medic, walking silently as always behind the two of them.
"Father, I'm fine, really!" Lucas insisted, though he was just wasting his breath. They reached the medic and Lucas was sat down on the table to be examined.
"What happened?" The nurse asked. She was a short and stout little woman who seemed to be tired of having to see so much of Lucas here. She loved the kid, but something always had to happen for him to be here.
"I passed out for like, ten seconds, and everyone's freaking out about it." Lucas looked away, huffing in frustration. "I'm fine."
"Lucas, they're right to be worried. You suddenly disappeared and then came back and collapsed. They probably think something bad happened to you while you were out there." She started examining Lucas. After a bit, she turned to the king. "He seems to be okay, like he says. I'd attribute it to dehydration, overexertion, and possibly stress."
Callie couldn't hear a word they were saying as he leaned up against the wall, but judging by everyone's expressions, it clearly wasn't anything serious. Thank god. If something was wrong with Lucas, Callie would just about die knowing it had been on his watch.
"Great. Can I go now?" Lucas hopped off the table. Shit. Bad plan. He kept one hand on the table to try and hide his dizziness from suddenly standing, though he couldn't keep his face from going pale. The nurse watched his expressions closely and pushed him down into a chair.
"I'd like you to stay here until you don't get dizzy from standing up." Lucas sighed and leaned back in the chair, reluctantly holding the water bottle he was given.
Callie shifted his weight onto his other leg, quietly observing Lucas. He seemed to get dizzy and unstable when he stood up. Shit. Was it the water? The air quality out there? Probably a mixture of both.
Lucas waited until the nurse turned around before pouring some of the water in the bottle into the plant next to him, quickly pretending to be drinking when she looked back at him. He obviously couldn't currently explain why he seemed against taking care of himself.
Callie smiled a little bit, pushing some auburn hair out of his face and sitting on a stool a little closer to the table. He was inwardly panicking as to what on earth he had done to make Lucas feel like this, and was running through every single thing that had happened. The water, of course, and the bad air of the city. He'd been cold.
The nurse went into the closet to get something and Lucas quietly stood up. He swayed a bit, but he started towards the door as though he planned to leave.
Callie rose from the stool, grabbing his arm gently to stop him. He was clearly too out of sorts to go yet. You're not well.
I'm perfectly okay. Lucas tried to argue, but nothing he said (or signed) would change that he stumbled just from Callie grabbing his arm.
Callie quickly caught him, holding him upright. You're not. Stay.
"Lucas Mulbright, you sit down this instant!" Lucas jumped at the nurse's voice and reluctantly sat down. "You're not leaving until I say you can, and that's that."
Callie turned towards whatever Lucas had jumped at, quickly letting go of Lucas and sitting on his own stool when he saw the nurse, wondering if she could sign.
"Now, drink your water. I know you haven't been, now go on." The nurse refused to look away from Lucas until he started drinking. "Good. Don't spit it out. You've watered that plant enough." Lucas blushed a bit in embarrassment and looked away.
Callie smiled a little at Lucas' blush, not knowing what it was about but thinking it was cute anyway. But he needed to know if the nurse could sign, so he could figure out if Lucas was okay.
Can you sign? He asked silently, hoping for a yes.
She nodded. Not perfect, but enough. She replied. Lucas seemed nervous, assuming why Callie had asked. Deaf?
Callie nodded, pointing to his lips and ear, shaking his head to show he could neither speak nor hear. Will he be okay?
He'll be okay as long as he takes care of himself. He hasn't been drinking. He's severely dehydrated. Lucas fiddled with the water bottle silently, his heart racing.
Well, that wasn't what Callie had been expecting. He glanced over to the prince, his auburn fringe falling into his eyes. That's all?
Well, I'm guessing sprinting down the hall while severely dehydrated couldn't have helped, but yes. He's okay. She grabbed a bottle of medication upon noticing how anxious Lucas was, giving him a couple pills.
Callie bit his lip, looking over to Lucas, the light of the room making his freckles even more prominent. It hadn't been his fault, thank god. But Lucas needed to drink.
Lucas dry swallowed the pills, the nurse placing her hands on her hips with a soft huff. He looked up at her, but he didn't drink anything.
Drink, Callie signed to him discreetly, like saying something quietly.
I'd rather not. Lucas continued to just fidget nervously with the bottle. "Your meds will kick in soon. I'm not letting you leave until you're properly hydrated, young man."
"What?! That'll take ages!"
"Not if you just drink. You need it, Lucas." Her voice softened into concern rather than reprimanding.
