((im thinking: you know what else would be a nice view in the morning ;) ))
Callie nodded, looking out at it all. He could understand why Lucas had wanted to leave the palace - the view was beautiful, pristine, like china that could break if someone pushed it just a little too hard. The city, though…the city, and the people in it, were tough as steel.
(Lmao yes)
As nice as it is, I always want to go out and actually see it, you know? Lucas sighed, still looking outside. I can't do anything cooped up in here all the time.
Well, you've seen the city, at least. Not all of it, though. There are some parts I wouldn't want you to go to even if you weren't the prince, Callie admitted, referencing the shadier parts of the city. There were only so many places one could feel really secure in out there.
Lucas nodded. I wish I could do something to make every part of the city safe, but it seems impossible, and I barely have any power yet.
I don't think there's much you could do even as king, Callie told him truthfully. Some people just… His hand lingered in the air for a moment, thinking of the right words. They like to do their own thing, and there's not much you can do about it.
Lucas sighed and sat down on the windowsill. I feel like I'm a bad Prince. I haven't helped my people hardly at all, and there's so many bad things happening out there.
Callie sat next to him, knowing that this wasn't at all his fault. You didn't know about any of it, Lucas. Even if you did, the people I know don't like to listen to princes telling them to change their business.
Not like that. I feel I should be helping them more. There's poverty and hunger everywhere, and my family is doing nothing to help. He fidgeted with his hands, looking conflicted.
That…well, that was true. Callie himself found it hard to get by on some nights, although his roommates usually found something, even if its history was rather questionable. Have you talked about it with them?
I've tried before, but they don't listen to me. I'm only seventeen. My opinion doesn't matter yet. He ran his fingers through his hair.
I think it does. Maybe not to them, not quite yet. But it will. Callie reassured him, noticing how fluffy his hair looked against the sunlight, not that he would ever be able to feel it.
((what is it with you and your characters having fluffy hair lmao))
(I don't know how to draw other hairstyles wheeze technically their hair is slightly different, but usually soft because fluff opportunities)
I suppose so. I just wish they cared more. Lucas lay his head on Callie's shoulder, relaxing ever so slightly.
((I enjoy it lol))
Callie smiled a little, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. They will, when you're older.
I hope so. He closed his eyes, moving closer to Callie. Not being able to actually speak to the other was difficult, but they were managing okay.
Callie couldn't speak, that was true, but he could make noises, although they were rare. He could laugh, and hum, and yell, although none of those actions actually ever formed words.
Is it possible for your hearing to be restored? Lucas asked after a bit. We've got the best healthcare in the kingdom here, so we might be able to fix it.
Callie shook his head with a small smile. I've been deaf since I was born.
Damn. Lucas huffed a bit, looking away. Oh well. It was just a thought, I guess.
Well… Callie paused, trying to recall what he could. My hearing was terrible, but not gone. And then I started flying planes, and then it left completely.
Well, hearing aids are a thing. Lucas suggested. Maybe you could hear again if you got like, ear implants or whatever they're called.
It would never be perfect. Not even close. But I'd be able to hear some things. Maybe, Callie decided with a shrug, resting his head on top of Lucas'.
Lucas pulled himself into Callie's lap again and got comfortable, seeming content enough for the time being. He hoped he'd be able to help Callie, but it wasn't looking all that likely.
Callie wrapped his other arm around him, still feeling a little excited from when he had kissed him less than an hour ago. God, he just couldn't stop thinking about it.
Are you okay? Lucas pulled away to sign, having felt Callie's quick heartbeat.
Callie nodded, smiling a little bit. Thinking.
