Logan kept walking, eyes darting around to keep an eye out for anyone following them. After a while more, he stopped, leaning against a tree. "Okay. I think we're good." he said softly.
Logan kept walking, eyes darting around to keep an eye out for anyone following them. After a while more, he stopped, leaning against a tree. "Okay. I think we're good." he said softly.
Allie breathed a sigh of relief. "So what's your plan? Set up camp here for the night or keep walking?"
Logan shrugged. "I don't know." he replied, looking over at her. "I was kind of just…walking." he replied, shaking his head.
"I think that we should find a spot where the ground isn't too bad to set up camp, and then we can take turns sleeping," Allie suggested. "That way we can have someone on lookout at all times who can wake the other person up at the first sign of trouble."
Logan nodded. "Alright. That sounds good."he replied, looking at her. "Preferably somewhere defensible, too, so if worst comes to worst…" he trailed off, shaking his head a little.
"Yeah, that's a good idea," Allie agreed. "We just need to find a place like that for now." She looked around them for possible options.
Logan nodded, also looking around. "Allie…thank you for coming with me." he said softly. "You didn't have to. I know that…this is nearly as dangerous for you as it is for me."
"You tried to help me, it's only fair," Allie replied, brushing it off. "What kind of friend would I be if I let you run off by yourself?" She spoke lightly, as if this weren't a matter of life and death, though it was clear that she knew it was. She hesitated almost imperceptibly on the word "friend", hoping that Logan didn't notice.
Logan nodded. "Oh. Okay. Thank you, though." he said again, giving her a small, strained smile as he kept looking around for a good place to make camp.
She wanted to do a better job of consoling him, but that was not her forte and she feared she’d only make things worse, so she looked around as well. “What about over there?” she suggested, pointing to a spot that looked to mostly fit their needs.
Logan looked where she was pointing, and walked over, inspecting it. He gave a sharp nod. "Yeah. That looks like it would work. At least for now." he agreed.
“Okay, good,” Allie replied with a slight smile. “That’s one less to worry about. Now, do you happen to have any plan besides get the hell out of here?”
Logan nodded, then shook his head. "Yeah, and no, I don't. I just wanted to get as far away as possible. If we ever return to that town…we'll need to think up some sort of excuse as to why we left like that." he said, looking at her.
“We can make something up,” Allie commented, thinking for a moment. “Right now we have to focus on not dying though.
Logan nodded. "Alright. Let's set up shelter, then." he replied, gathering supplies to do so. "Grab sticks, vines, that kind of thing."
She did as he instructed, walking around and getting materials until her arms were full. She dumped them unceremoniously in a pile near the spot they had chosen.
He started working on constructing a shelter, using the supplies she had brought him. He was almost completely focused on what he was doing.
Allie went and got more supplies for Logan to make a shelter with, setting them down in the same place. She was trying to be helpful, since she was never good at building things.
Logan kept working quickly but steadily, building a shelter as fast as he could.
Allie was glad that she had a jacket as the sun began to set and the sky turned a molten kaleidoscope of colors and the temperature dropped gradually. “Are you going to be done soon?” she asked, not nagging, just curious.
Logan nodded. "There. We'll have to share, as I don't feel like making a second one right now." Though if he was honest, he wasn't sure he wanted to be pressed up as close to her as they would have to be in there.
“Okay, that sounds reasonable,” Allie agreed. That isn’t very big, we’re going to have to be pretty close to each other, she thought nervously. She yawned.
Logan nodded. "I have a blanket we can share, if need be." He added, pulling it out of his bag.
“That’d be nice,” Allie responded. “It can be kinda cold at night.” And I’m sure that he is already aware of that…
Logan nodded. "Mhm. If we can find moss tomorrow, that's good for sleeping on as it's softer." He replied.
