Logan slapped her back gently, unsure if that would actually help or not. "Take them in a few minutes, when the cough wears off."
Logan slapped her back gently, unsure if that would actually help or not. "Take them in a few minutes, when the cough wears off."
After a minute or two the coughing eased, and Allie was relieved. But it was getting worse, which was a bad sign. She quickly hunted down the pills and took one. “See? All better.”
Logan sighed, watching her worriedly. His hand still rested on her upper back, gentle. "Okay." he replied.
“Let’s keep going,” Allie said, trying to change the topic of conversation. Her throat felt sore from the coughing, but she was sure it would fade soon.
Logan nodded. "Alright." he replied, and started walking again. He walked rather slowly, though, to make sure she would be able to keep up.
Allie tried to act normal again, and she slowly started feeling better. Maybe the pill really was helping.
Logan took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. The silver streaks in his hair shimmered in the light, and he raked a hand through his hair, shaking his head a little.
Allie glanced at him; he seemed stressed. Why wouldn’t he be? They were literally running for their lives. She sighed.
Logan shook his head a little as they walked. "You sure you're alright?" he asked, looking at her worriedly.
“Yeah. The pills are working just fine,” she responded with a small smile, trying to alleviate his worries.
"Okay. Just…keep taking them, and…hopefully you'll get better." He replied, looking ahead at the way they were going again.
“Yeah, hopefully.” Allie didn’t want to admit that she felt like she was only getting worse, so she ended it there. She had gone back to walking at a normal pace again, and everything seemed fine for the moment.
Logan kept walking beside her, shaking his head a little as he thought. "God. Everything's going wrong." he muttered. "First you get sick, and now this whole Red Hand shit…" he shook his head again, sighing.
“This whole world has gone wrong,” Allie added. “People are fighting to survive. I guess we have to fight a little harder now, though. But we can make it. I hope.”
Logan nodded. "Yeah…if…if my kind hadn't shown up, none of this would have happened." he said slowly.
She nodded, biting her lip. “Yeah…” she agreed. “But this is our lives now, so we might as well stop wishing things were different and focus on not dying.” She said it as much to herself as to him.
Logan sighed. "I know." he replied, shaking his head again. "I just wish that…you know, things could be different." he said.
Allie’s lips quirked into a sad smile. “Me too,” she whispered, before running a hand through her hair.
Logan sighed softly. "Yeah." He kept walking, shaking his head.
“So how long do you think we need to walk?” Allie asked, glancing at him again.
Logan shrugged. "I don't know." He replied, glancing at her. "However long it takes to find a good place to camp tonight?"
“Okay,” Allie agreed, still walking. She looked around at the forest as it went by.
Logan sighed as they walked. "So…what should we talk about? If anything?" He asked, glancing at her.
Allie shrugged. “I dunno, maybe random memories? Or we could come up with a plan for if anyone comes and sees us or something? Or play twenty questions again?”
"Alright. Whatever you think works best." Logan replied with a shrug, pushing some underbrush out of the way as he walked.
