I flattened myself against the door, willing myself to be strong.
“What?” I taunted the man, though my voice tremored. “Are you going to get your wife to kill me? Hold my father down and make him watch? Carve an ‘X’ across my forehead? Start another war?”
Rafael cornered Juliet, wrapping a hand around her throat. “I assure you, if I were to kill you, it would be after you watched every last insufferable member of your family die at your feet.” He hissed, releasing her.
“Fuck you,” I spat, inhaling sharply. “You and your whole family.” Balling my hands into fists, I tried to push past him and reach for the door.
“Not so fast.” Rafael growled, grabbing her by the back of the shirt. “Benvolio, get my phone and call Angelo. I believe we have a lovely hostage situation on our hands.”
His order spurred me into action. Without missing a beat, I drove my elbow into his gut, effectively loosening his grip enough for me to slip away. Think fast, come on…
But the sound of harsh knocking on the door cut through my frenzied thoughts, and when a familiar voice followed… my heart slowed to a stop.
Marina.
Someone was here. My family cursed in pain and there was knocking on the door and so much chaos that I couldn’t even focus. Benvolio has started to drag me off into a back room, but I fought him every step of the way. Tears cascades down my face and my legs felt like jello. Mercutio refused to meet my gaze.
No. No—
“Don’t open it!” I cried, voice drenched in desperation. “Please—I’ll do anything—“
But upon hearing my voice, Marina redoubled her efforts, pounding harder on the door. “Hello?”
Mercutio’s POV
I watched Romeo get dragged away by Benvolio, but I couldn’t help him. Not anymore. I slammed my back against the door, trying to block Marina from gaining entry. She had no need to get hurt too. It didn’t make sense.
Marina's POV
"Hello?" I called again, refusing to let my mounting desperation leak into my voice. "I–I need help–there's been an emergency–"
Juliet was in there. I'd heard her voice. And if the Montagues were in there too….. "Let me in!"
“Marina, fuck off!” I refused to move, keeping my head down. I needed to draw the least amount attention to the two of us as possible.
My body went rigid, muscles locking up. "Mercutio?!" He was in on this too?
"Oh, for god's sake, let me through. I know you're a heartless monster who doesn't give a shit about his friend, but I actually do give a shit about what happens to mine, so let me pass," I practically spat, forcing my limbs to move again.
With a frustrated growl I opened the door wide enough for me to slip through, hoping everyone would be too distracted by the chaos to notice. I quickly shut the door, putting myself between it and Marina.
“You need to get out of here, Capulet.” I hissed, frantically looking over my shoulder.
"Fuck off."
I tried to push past him, reaching for the doorknob.
I quickly moved to block her. “Don’t be stupid! I’m trying to help you, dumbass!” I leaned against the door, listening to make sure no one had noticed my absence yet.
"Haha. Hilarious, really. Let me through." I grabbed hold of his arm and twisted it as hard as I possibly could, yanking him away.
I gritted my teeth in pain as Marina wrenched me aside. In a last ditch effort, I physically picked her up and just starting running for my life.

Acting purely on instinct, I drove both feet into his groin as hard as I possibly could and pushed myself down. I landed on the floor and rolled to my feet, sprinting back to the front office and slipping inside just as a teacher poker her head out of a nearby classroom.
“FUCK!” I went down like a ton of bricks in the middle of the hallway, groaning in pain. Thats what I get for trying to protect people.
Juliet's POV:
I cursed loudly when I saw Marina slip in, running towards me. "Out. Now," he hissed in my ear, dragging me towards the door.
Romeo’s POV
I had quit crying, more or less an exhausted shell of myself in the room next to the main office. Benvolio refused to even look at his “sniveling pathetic mess of a nephew”. But that meant I was still stuck in the room with him.
(wait should Juliet and Marina get out or is someone going to stop them?)
(Rafael will probably call Angelo and try to ransom them off if they get caught, or they can escape. It depends where we want to take the story.)
(Angelo would take the ransom since he's promised Juliet to Paris's family, who practically run the Sicilian mafia…. so, up to you)
(I’ll let them escape, Romeo would be crushed if they got captured and then he’ll spoil everything early and die like an idiot)
(rip
Lol
got it)
We stumbled out into the hallway, Marina gripping my arm as if our lives depended on it as she lead me towards the front doors. Which, technically, they did. As soon as we were out of the building, we took off, tearing down the street and around the corner to the nearest bus stop. My heart hammered in my chest, adrenaline being pumped through my veins, but all I could think about was Romeo.
Romeo, who I'd left behind.
