“You… are disgusting.” I twisted my face into a look of mock horror and pushed him away, stifling a laugh. “Alright, back down the tree.”
“You… are disgusting.” I twisted my face into a look of mock horror and pushed him away, stifling a laugh. “Alright, back down the tree.”
“Already?” I pouted, not moving. “I’ll behave, Juliet, I swear it.” I smiled gently, happy to see her joking around.
“Fine, fine,” I sighed, a smile breaking through my false expression. “You can stay with me.”
I took a knee, dramatically bowing my head. “Your company is the greatest gift I could be offered.” I replied, grinning widely.
“You’re an idiot,” I told him, sitting down and leaning back against the balcony railings.
I quickly moved next to her. “I’m your favorite idiot.” I mumbled quietly, wrapping my arm around her loosely.
My stupid heart did a tiny flip. I told myself that it was okay, that I was leaning against him. It was okay to rest my head on his shoulder. By curling into his side, I wasn’t causing any harm.
“Yes, you’re my favourite idiot,” I muttered grudgingly, closing my eyes.
I smiled, feeling my heart race with a familiar and ever so addicting rush of warmth that came along with it. I closed my eyes as well, shifting to make Juliet more comfortable. “Feeling better?”
“Much…” I murmured, another smile ghosting briefly over my lips. His one arm was around me, tucking me close to his side, and his hand was resting on my shoulder. Barely registering my actions, I reached up and intertwined our fingers, burrowing deeper into his tentative embrace.
I felt my cheeks flush red as Juliet laced our fingers together. “So this is what our relationship is now? You using me for cuddles?” I teased gently.
“Are you complaining?” I tossed back, barely missing a beat. “Because I can move away if you want me to.”
Please don’t ask me to move away from you. I was instantly ashamed by the mental message that filled my thoughts.
“Never. Wouldn’t even dream of it.” I squeezed Juliet’s hand for assurance, enjoying the soft breeze.
I squeezed back, noticing suddenly that his leg overlapped mine at the knee. “I…. shouldn’t be doing this…” The hushed statement tumbled from my mouth before I could stop it. But I didn’t move away. Not yet.
“And I shouldn’t have hiked all the way over here, but I’m here now. This is our moment, Juliet. Think of it like that. Do whatever you want. Cuddle, throw me off the balcony, whatever, okay? You’re still in control of your life. Remember that.” I insisted, opening my eyes to stare at her. She seemed so fragile right now, even though I knew she was the total opposite.
I barked a quiet laugh that came out sounding much more like a sob than I would have preferred. “I’m anything but in control of my life. I’ve already been—“
“Juliet, no.” I shook my head quickly. “I don’t care about the past or the future or whatever. Right now, okay? You’re in control right now.”
Right now.
I swallowed, eyes cast downwards. “I…… okay. Alright. That—That sounds good. Let’s… let’s play something. Truth or dare. I just want to be a stupid teenager for once…”
I nodded shakily. “Truth or dare, Jules?” I waited her, as per usual to scold me for the nickname in order to restore some level of normalcy to the conversation.
Jules.
I cringed visibly, but said nothing on the matter of the nickname. "I pick…… Truth."
“Truth… okay.” I thought about this for several moments. “Okay, okay this one is super important.” I smiled playfully at her. “Is Tybalt a prick all the time or just at school?”
I blinked owlishly at him for a moment, then clapped one hand over my mouth as a peal of laughter escaped. "He's never a prick," I complained, lowering my voice. "Only to you. Leave my cousin alone. Also, truth or dare?"
“I just wanted to know!” I stifled my own laughter, unable to speak for a few moments. After calming down I took a few deep breaths. “Dare.”
“I…. I dare you to… buy me a pizza. Next time we work on our drama.” I grinned, running my free hand through my hair.
“Fair enough.” I rolled my eyes in amusement “Truth or dare then?”
“I pick….. truth. Again.” I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from grinning too widely.
