He nodded. "Alright, alright. I won't call you unless I'm dying in a ditch and have no one else to call, alright?"
He nodded. "Alright, alright. I won't call you unless I'm dying in a ditch and have no one else to call, alright?"
“Sounds like a plan, yep.” He laughed slightly. “Um- I’ll catch you later?”
He chuckled. "Yeah, see you."
Danny waved, herding his siblings back to their apartment. It was a miracle how he got that gaggle home without losing at least one, but he did it.
Alex headed to his apartment, whistling under his breath as he walked.
Danny brought the mini pack inside, letting them scurry into the apartment like so many little rats. He plopped down onto the couch, a sharp sigh releasing from his lungs.
(should we timeskip?)
Alex got back to his apartment, closing the door and letting out a breath. Now what?
(yep!)
Danny eventually fell asleep, trying to catch the smallest naps in the time between his responsibilities.
(Kk. Want me to do it? also i'm back for a bit)
(yes, please! also welcome back!)
(Thanks!)
A week (ish) later…
Alex clawed at his phone, tears slipping down his cheeks as what had happened sunk in. As he realized by the light of morning what he had done. He called Danny, shaking and sobbing.
Danny jolted awake from the buzz of his phone, fumbling to answer once he saw the caller ID. “Woah, fuck- what is it, man? Is somethin’ up?”
"I…I…" a soft sob caught in Alex's throat. "I messed up, Danny." he said, voice cracking. "I really messed up a-and I don't know what to do, I…" he sniffled, covering his face with a hand. "I called him." he whispered, ashamed and broken.
“..Shit. Is there any way I can help?” Danny asked gingerly, knowing fully well how lightly he had to tread. “If you just need to vent or somethin’, man, I’m there.”
He was crying now, tears running down his cheeks. He was shaking. "I d-don't know." he whispered. "I don't know, I just…I…"
“Hey, hey- um- do you need me to come over?” Danny was already standing, putting on his shoes just in case. “You sound like you’re really goin’ through it, and I’m wondering if you should be on your own right now.”
Alex swallowed hard, trying to get himself under control. But it was so hard because every time he tried, he was swamped by memories again. Of what he had done last night. What he had allowed to happen. "P-please?" he whispered, voice breaking.
Danny sighed softly, nodding. “Yeah, I’ll be over soon. Do you want to stay on the phone?” He slipped out of the apartment, still rubbing sleep from his eyes and trying to process everything. “It should only be a few minutes, but still.”
"I…" he didn't know. "I-I d-don't…I don't know." he whispered. He was sitting up, curled in a ball with his arm tucked around himself, knees pulled to his chest. He was shaking, tears running down his cheeks, soft sobs leaving his mouth.
“I’ll stay, I’ll stay. Give me a minute, okay?” Danny ducked out of his apartment, locking the door behind him and slipping out of the building. “Can you tell me what exactly happened?”
"I…I called him l-last n-night, and…and…" He sniffled, tears falling down his face. "I d-don't know wh-why, I-I guess I just…I m-missed…I don't…"
“Take a breath, Alex.” Danny shoved through the flower of foot traffic, keeping his head down. “It’ll be okay, I promise. I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
His breath was shaky, unsure. "S-sorry…" He whispered. "I just…I c-called him and…" He trailed off, swallowing and trembling.
“Don’t be sorry, brother. Don’t worry about it.” Danny crossed onto Alex’s street, trying to remember which place was his. “Hey- what’s your address, man?”
Alex listed off his address, voice trembling and broken. "The…the door sh-should b-be unlocked…" He whispered.
