"We can say that we are stowaways," he rambled, "that we're willing to work, that we only want a ride to the next stop, wherever it may be, and that we promise to be as helpful as we can be?"

@gracehustle

She sighed and nodded, standing up straight and fixing her shirt, “Alright, that could work, just nothing is being mentioned about my real gender.”

@WriteOutofTime

"Okay," he said, all smiles again. He began walking back towards the captain's cabin. "You know, I have a good feeling about this."

@gracehustle

“I don’t,” She said, more to herself than to him. Andrea followed him to the captains quarters and did her best to calm her nerves. The last thing she needed right now was to be nervous and leak something about who she really was.

@WriteOutofTime

Daso knocked lightly on the old wood door. After a few moments, and some light swearing, the door flew open. The captain held a bottle of rum in one hand, and shielded his eyes with the other. His silver teeth flashed as he opened his mouth. "What?" he demanded. He paused. "Wait, aren't ye the new kid?"

Daso smiled his most charming grin. "About that. I told you the tiniest of white lies earlier. My companion, Andr…Andre and I were not technically hired by the first mate. We are requesting passage to the next port, and we will pay our way through labor."

The captain took a long drink of his rum. He peered at Andrea. "Anything to add?" he asked, his voice noncommittal.

@gracehustle

She shook her head and stayed quiet, her eyes flicking around the doorway and everywhere besides the captain. Andrea was certain they were going to get caught, she was sure -even if it was just in her head- the captain could see she was a girl without a second glance.

@WriteOutofTime

The captain leaned down, glaring at Andrea with an increasingly intense gaze. "Hmm," he said, a smirk flitting across his lips. "Well then. The two of you are quite the naughty pair. I should kill you both."

@gracehustle

“Or you could just let us stay until you dock next and we’ll be on our way, no need to kill anyone.” She replied, triple checking she was using her boy voice as she talked.

@gracehustle

“Because I don’t fancy the idea of being killed, at least not anytime near now.” She glanced at the captain and did her best to stay still and not give him any reason to suspect anything was different about her, “And I don’t think my friend here does either.”

@WriteOutofTime

Daso bobbed a desperate nod. "Yes, we'd rather not die. We accept that we'd be…indebted to you."

The captain grinned, finally stepping back. "If you accept that, mayhaps I can make use of you two."

@gracehustle

Andrea nodded, agreeing with Daso and hoping the captain didn’t make them do crazy tasks. “I accept that, captain.”

@WriteOutofTime

The captain smiled widely. "Marvelous. Follow me." He strode towards the door, flinging it open and stepping onto the deck.

Daso fell onto step beside Andrea. "What…what do you think he'll make us do?"

@gracehustle

“I don’t know, I’m worried to find out though,” She replied, biting her lip and fixing her cap so there were no loose strands of hair falling out, “At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if he just pushed us off the side of the boat anyway.”

@WriteOutofTime

"Me neither," he said, shrugging. "We'll see what happens."

The captain stood in the center of the main deck. "Can I have your attention, mates?" He grabbed Andrea and Daso by the shoulders, pulling them forward. The crew gathered around. "This is Andre and…what was your name, lad? Daso? Alright, Andre and Daso. They are stowaways. They are now at your beck and call. If there's a job you don't want to do, or something you need done, whether it be cleaning yer shit or massaging your toes, they're the ones to ask."

@gracehustle

Her eyes fixed on the planks at her feet as the captain talked and she only glanced up at the crew to see if the first mate was there, knowing he probably looked like he was going to crush them like twigs because they lied to him. The punishment the captain gave them could have been a lot worse, she decided, but this was quite bad.

@WriteOutofTime

The first mate was indeed glaring at them, a cruel smile splitting his ugly features. Daso knew that meant he'd make them do every bad task he could imagine. The other crew members looked largely disinterested, so he figured they wouldn't have much trouble from everyone else.

The captain waved a hand. "That be all. Get back to work."

@gracehustle

Andrea glanced at Daso before looking around for anyone that might put them to work, fiddling with the hem of her shirt to get her mind off the cruel looking first mate.

@gracehustle

“I suppose,” She replied simply, glancing up at him just enough to show her reaction when he said his ‘lovely reflection’ before turning and scanning the deck for a bucket of water and something to clean with.

@WriteOutofTime

"I'll have it so clean you'll be able to see all of your…um, stunning features," Daso chirped cheerfully. He enjoyed not having to worry about his lie falling through. He retrieved a rag and a bucket of questionably dingy water and set to work.

@gracehustle

Andrea soon located what looked to be a semi clean rag and bucket of water and got to work as well, making sure to take her time and do a good job. Very surprisingly, a small smile came to her face as she washed the deck, not because she had gotten out of revealing who she really was, but because she had something to do again -something she knew how to do.

@WriteOutofTime

"Do you think I'm pirate enough to sing sea shanties yet?" Daso asked in a low voice, scrubbing enthusiastically at the stained deck.

@gracehustle

“I mean, we’ve only been on the ship for a little while, but I think you could try,” She replied, her smile growing. She rung her rag out in the water before getting back to work, “I’ve never been so glad to only be washing a floor before.”
