She froze as the handle turned before scrambling back into the barrel, tucking herself down as far as she could and hoping he would put the top onto the barrel before whoever it was came in.

@WriteOutofTime

Daso slammed the lid shut, whirling around and trying to look inconspicuous. The captain strode in. He was fairly young, with blond hair and freckles. He looked at Daso, blinking slowly.

"Who the hell are you?" he demanded.

"Uhhh, Daso. I'm a new cabin boy. Was just bringing you your…apples."

"Get out, lad." He waved a dismissive hand. Daso froze. He didn't want to leave Andrea.

"Ummmm…"

@gracehustle

Andrea’s heart was pounding and she was almost certain it was loud enough for the captain to hear. Quietly, she tried to hide herself under the apples, putting them around her quietly and hoping she wasn’t going to get caught or left behind, but she would rather have Daso not get caught than both of them.

@WriteOutofTime

(oof i thought i already replied my bad)

"Kid," the captain interrupted. "Hand me an apple and then get this damn barrel out of my cabin."

Daso nodded, breathing a silent sigh of relief. "Right. Aye captain."

@gracehustle

(It’s ok, I’ve done that before)
Andrea sighed in relief as well and grabbed an apple, ready to hand it to Daso so he could give it to the captain and they could get out of the cabin.

@WriteOutofTime

Daso took the apple and smoothly tossed it to the captain, who caught it with ease. The captain hesitated, giving Daso a silver-toothed smile. "I feel I haven't seen you around very much."

"Oh, uh, I'm new-ish," Daso responded, "the first mate hired me."

The captain shrugged. "Alright. Welcome aboard the Silver Lady."

Daso smiled and nodded, lifting the barrel again and trying to make sure he didn't look like he was straining too much for a barrel of apples. "Thanks!" he said as he headed out of the cabin. He saw an isolated corner of the ship and headed that way, hoping they could find a decent hiding spot to wait until they cast off.

@gracehustle

“That was close, too close,” Andrea whispered from the barrel, “Maybe it’s better if I just stay in here until there’s a good spot to hide, I can’t be seen by any of the crew.”

@WriteOutofTime

"True," he said, "although I'm formulating a plan. If I find you a disguise, I bet you could play a convincing boy. As long as your pretty face and gorgeous hair doesn't give it away, that is."

@gracehustle

Her face flushed and she was thankful for the barrel separating her from Daso, “Maybe. You’d have to find something do I could tuck my hair up to make it seem shorter, and find a way to make my face look less girl like.” Pushing on the top of the lid ever so slightly, she opened the barrel just enough to peek out the top while making it seem like the top was just loose.

@WriteOutofTime

Daso was on a roll now. "I could get you some baggy clothes, and a hat to cover your hair and part of your face. Oh, and maybe you could smudge some dirt or something on your face so people don't look too close. Pirates look dirty anyways."

@gracehustle

She smiled and nodded, “If you could find those things I’d be amazingly happy.” She ran a hand over her hair and looked out of the barrel again, trying to see how many people there were on the ship.

@WriteOutofTime

"Okay, be right back," he promised, wandering casually across the deck. Dozens of men hurried by, barking orders and carrying barrels. He headed down to the main bunker, where several hammocks were set up. He rummaged through the bags surrounding the hammocks, looking for the most raggedy stuff, hoping nothing would be missed. He found a large, possibly blood stained cap, a ripped shirt, and dirty, patched up trousers. He hurried back to the barrel, keeping the stuff behind his back. "Got the stuff!"

@gracehustle

She looked out at him and gave a smile even if he couldn’t see it, “Thank you.” She looked around inside the barrel and sucked in a small breath, “I don’t think I’ll be able to change in here though, it’s too small.”

@WriteOutofTime

"Oh…true." Daso paused, trying to think. "I could guard this area while you change behind the barrel as fast as you can. No one can see us unless they round the corner."

@gracehustle

“Tell me if anyone is coming, and I’m trusting you not to look,” She said, opening the barrel and scrambling out. Andrea took the clothes from him and dipped behind he barrel quickly, scrambling to get ready as fast as she could.

@gracehustle

She changed quickly and tucked her hair up into the cap to finish off the look, turning and making sure she didn’t look too girlish before nodding, “I’m done Daso. How do I look?”

@gracehustle

Her cheeks flushed and she looked down at the deck, a light smile crossing her face, “Then the last thing I need is dirt or something to smear on my face, and maybe make my voice deeper.”

@gracehustle

Andrea nodded, glancing around to see if anyone could tell if she was a girl, or even if they had spotted her, “I’ll go get some ash then.”

@gracehustle

“I’ll be really fast, hopefully no one even notices we’re there,” She said, wandering around and looking for the stairs, “All I’m going to do is run some on my face and make it look like I’m a worker.”

@WriteOutofTime

"I'll guard the stairs," he decided as he followed her. "If someone's down there, you've got to sound convincing. Give me your best man voice."
