Robert was digging into the stew in every sense of the word, and in about ten minutes he was finished and about to go for another helping when he noticed Victor and the creature. He decided to ignore Victor, saying, "Uh, Creature?" calling him that made Robert uncomfortable, but it was all he had to go on. "Are you alright? Is there something wrong?"
(Robert is me but with pasta)

"Oh, no, n-nothing." he flustered, serving himself quickly and a bit messily. If it bothered Anna she never commented on it, but she did stare some. Margaret flinched, this was one of her best tablecloths and she hated to see it get messy. The creature attempted eating, but it felt like all eyes were on him and he could barely manage to keep from choking up what he'd already spooned into his mouth.

Robert flinched away from the pot as the creature quickly gave himself a portion. “A-alright then,” he muttered. After nonchalantly taking a sip of his water glass, he gave himself a second helping. He ate a few spoonfuls, then turned to his niece. “Would you like to hear more about my trip, Esme?”

"I would, very much!" she said excitedly, bouncing in her seat. Victor flinched, this was too much energy for him and he had never really been good around children, even his own siblings. He just preferred to be alone in general, and he didn't like when people were loud. Suddenly, he deeply wished that he could leave, but when he looked desperately at Anna she shot knives at him with here glare. He was to stay here, it was only polite, he assumed.

Robert beamed at Esme. Then he pursed his lips in thought. “Well, like I said, we traveled along the coast of Greenland for a while. We ran into a few storms, some so strong that waves crashed onto the boat, soaking everything it touched. I may have gotten myself a cold once or twice.” He chuckled. “One time we saw a huge whale breaching the surface of the water. Another time it was a pod of dolphins, and Esme, they came so close to us! I could hear them making those clicking noises from all the way on the deck.” He paused, making another breathy chuckle.
“After one of the storms, I saw a rainbow, I think. It’s kind of amazing I only saw one once. But I will say the aurora borealis took the prize for most spectacular.” He took a few moments to eat some of his stew.
“The further north we got, the more ice there was. It started becoming dangerous to sail. But I wanted to keep going. I believed we were close. So we kept going, but the crew started getting restless. It was hard for them to keep the ship out of danger, getting harder by the hour. We had some close calls. And then one night, under the northern lights and bright stars, we find these fellows.”
He gestured to Victor and the creature. Even though Esme was the only person in the room who didn’t know the story of how he found them, he was still going to tell it for her sake. Although, he wasn’t sure how to tell the rest without Esme asking some private or rude questions.

"How did they get there, Uncle? Why did they want to be up there in the first place, if it was so dangerous?" she asked, and both guests flinched. "Ehm, I don't believe that's a story appropriate for your age, uh…" Victor hesitated to finish, because Anna was glaring daggers into him yet again. "If she wants to know, she'll know. Margaret? Care to explain? You can sugarcoat with the best of them, I know."

(I too would die for her. She is my CHILD and I will do my best to protect her from all bad things ever because I think she deserves the world lol)

@Tired-but-passionate

(yesss Esme is precious bby)

Aaaand there it was. Perhaps he had spoken too soon. A small sigh escaped Roberts's lips, and he glanced nervously at Anna, then at Margaret. He doubted his sister would be the best person to explain, and worried if she was still emotionally shaken up. But hey, another voice inside him reasoned. Maybe he isn't giving her enough credit. She's probably gotten over it by now, right? Besides, it's not like she would tell her everything, and it wouldn't be good to voice his doubts in front of Anna.
He ate some of his stew, then looked to Esme. "Maybe I'll let your mother explain, my dear," he murmured hesitantly.

(I have decided that Robert is the younger brother to Margaret and she treats him as such aka gently bullies him constantly)

"Well, um… you know witches? From those fairytales we read you sometimes, when you have trouble sleeping and such? Well, imagine Victor here as a witch of science." the man in question groaned at this comparison, but it wasn't as if he could stop Margaret. "He did something, to our other friend here, and he… well, you see… well, our other friend was dead, you see? And Victor brought him back to life. But he abandoned him, and that made our friend very upset," Margaret looked to the creature to test his reaction, but couldn't parse anything beyond regret and remorse. "And well… he did some very bad things, and they ended up running away to the Arctic. But your Uncle found them and brought them back. That's the simple version, at least. Please don't ask any questions Esme, I don't think I can tell you any more." Margaret said shakily.

(Victor thinks it's stupid but that's all Esme's gonna call him now. Also, prepare for this to be a necromancy Chekov's gun later on.)

(Yeah, I just think theyre neat tbh and I like those dynamics.)

@Tired-but-passionate

(Idk what else to do other than have Robert be awkward)
Well, that was one way to explain it. Robert highly doubted Esme wouldn’t ask questions; if not now, then later. He quietly finished his stew as Margaret talked, then dabbed his mouth with a napkin.
“Well… I’m finished eating. Wonderful meal you’ve made, Maggie.”
He didn’t know what he was trying to do. Distract Margaret from her thoughts? Take the focus off of their guests? He didn’t know, but he didn’t want dinner end on a less-than friendly note.

"Well that explains everything. Thank you, light of my life." Anna said, finishing her soup and standing up. "Now, I have some work to do with a colleague of mine, I'll be off."

"But Motherrrr, why can't you stay? You're always so busy!" Esme complained, pouting in her chair. She'd barely even touched her soup, she was so excited for the new guests and the fact that her Mother was home.

(Oh do it do it like I know she's generally butch and tends to dress in more masc clothes but like she should totally wear a fancy dress and show off and feel pretty and shit. I love it. More please. Absolutely fucking fantastic.)

Here's what Anna looks like, for those wondering. I would thank her if she stepped on me. She's too polite to, though.

I didn't bother to color her hands properly, you'll have to zoom in to see the lines properly as they're kinda thin from looking at a regular screen.

Every time I design a character for this I'm like AAAAAHHHHHH! WOMEN! and it's great.
