(Oh, okay.)
"Wait, what?" Conner asked, blinking incredulously.
(Oh, okay.)
"Wait, what?" Conner asked, blinking incredulously.
"My mother died of cancer. Of course, my father blamed me. I was eleven. I watched my mother die in hospital, and when I got home my father made me pay. I remember falling to my knees and screaming in pain as he made these wings sprout from my back. I remember my eyes pleading for answers, right as he put that jewel in my forehead. I remember writhing in pain as the symbols seared into my skin. I remember exactly what my father said before he walked away."
Connor rubbed her arms gently. "What did he say?" he asked, his voice a whisper of sound.
"He said… 'Whenever I am pondering your death, these symbols shall appear. They will be a constant reminder that I don't care if you die.'"
Connor hugged her from behind. "So how am I involved?"
"Well you're not, really. I only met you a few years ago."
He kissed her hair. "Okay… so now what?"
"We should get going and leave Paris," Raven said softly.
Connor blinked. "Just… Just like that?"
"We don't live here, do we? We have a home back in America. My father died: I inherit his everything because no one else is alive for it."
“You’re right. We should go,” he replied. He wanted her to be safe, and maybe moving back to America would do just that.
"If I'm ever missing and you don't know where I am, I'm probably going to be here," Raven said softly.
He kissed her hair again. “Mhmm…”
Raven turned around and kissed Connor fully and wholly on the the lips.
He smiled and murmured, "There's my girl" before plunging into the kiss.
Kissing Conner, Raven felt like all of her problems were melting away. She felt safe with him.
Connor smoothed her hair in long strokes as he kissed her. His free hand pressed into her lower back to secure her and bring her closer.
Raven wrapped her arms around Connor's neck. In his embrace, she was strong. Nothing could harm her.
Connor didn't want to break contact with her at all, so he just held onto her, not wanting this moment to end.
Raven broke from the kiss. Her arms trailed from around Connor's neck to around his waist. Her head moved onto his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
He moved his arms to wrap around her shoulders and pull her tight against him. "Where should we go?"
"Not here," Raven replied sadly. "Too many memories."
"Babe, I can teleport anywhere…" He smiled into her hair.
"Then surprise me," Raven whispered.
Connor teleported them to the living room of a small house that he didn't expect her to recognize.
