Alex glanced down at their hands, then glancing over at Martha.
Alex glanced down at their hands, then glancing over at Martha.
Martha was cooking dinner, and patted Matthew's head lightly. Matthew had gone back to staring at Alex. The boy still hadn't said anything.
Alex looked over at Matthew, wondering why he was being stared at.
Gabe and Martha spoke a bit more, and Martha stepped over with some food for both of them.
"Eat up," she said. Matthew gazed wide eyed at Alex, moving over and plopping down on Gabe's lap.
"Hey, kiddo," Gabe said, ruffling the boy's hair. He giggled a little, giving Gabe a bit hug.
Alex blinked at Matthew, unsure what to do. So he just took the food with a quiet "thank you".
Matthew turned in Gabe's lap to look at Alex.
"Matthew here is… Retarded," Gabe said softly. "But he's an amazing kid." Gabe ruffled Matthew's hair again, accepting the food with a smile and thanks.
Alex nodded a little bit. "Oh." he replied, studying Matthew for a moment.
Matthew studied Alex right back, then turned to Gabe with a head tilt.
"G-girlfriend?" He stuttered out, pointing to how Gabe and Alex were holding hands.
Alex blinked and blushed red, eyes flashing away. "Oh! I-I…" he looked at Gabe helplessly, unsure of how to deal with this.
Gabe's face was flushed red too.
"N-no, Matthew," he stuttered. "Alex is a boy."
"B… Boyfriend?" Gabe flushed more.
Alex's face turned even redder, and his eyes widened a little bit. Even if Gabe was attractive and sweet and kind…that wasn't going to happen. He knew that.
Gabe was still flushed and for a moment, just a moment, his sinful desire shown in his eyes. He wanted to be that with Alex. Then, it was gone.
"No, Matthew," he said gently. "Just friends."
Alex took a deep breath, picking at the food and trying to calm the blush that had taken over his features.
Gabe started eating too. Matthew slipped off of Gabe's lap, going out of the room to find his mother.
Alex took another breath, glancing over at Gabe for a moment, then down at his food.
"I… About what Matthew said…" Gabe said quietly.
Alex looked up, raising his eyebrows questioningly.
"I'm sorry," he said finally.
"For what?" He asked, not understanding what Gabe was apologizing for.
"For Matthew's questions…" Gabe looked away, blushing a little.
"Oh. That's…that's not your fault."
Gabe shrugged a little.
"It was me holding your hand that made him come to that conclusion."
"It's fine, Gabe." he replied softly.
Gabe nodded a little.
"Alright then…" He looked away, down at his food.
Alex went back to picking at his food.
