Lumi sighed softly and toyed with his sleeves as he headed to his room. They felt like they didn't know Edmund well enough to really be in his space like that again while they were both conscious. He could see him again in the morning. They didn't have anything to do, after all. He soon managed to fall asleep.
(Feel free to skip to morning)
(Gotcha)
Edmund was wide awake the next morning, attempting to make ramen while he slipped on some formal looking clothes for this job search. He wanted so badly to impress Lumi, to take care of him, and he would stop at nothing to do just that
Lumi came out of his bedroom in sleep clothes that were far too large for him and hung off of his frame. They yawned, rubbing at their eyes sleepily, and noticed Edmund trying to cook something in the kitchen. "Mmnh⦠Edmund? What're you doing" He asked, shuffling over next to him.
Edmund blushed at the sight of the other, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips while he stirred the broth.
"The worms of bread, I am trying to replicate them." He answered, inspecting his meal so far. "Didst thou have a good rest?"
"Worms of breadβ¦? Oh, the Ramenβ¦ interesting choice for breakfast, but okay." Lumi yawned again and shrugged, scratching at the back of their neck a bit. "Yeah, I slept fine. You? Hopefully the couch is comfortable enough for youβ¦"
Edmund didn't have the heart to tell Lumi that he didn't sleep at all, so he nodded curtly, stirring the noodles. "I am sorry⦠I did not know what thou wouldst want for a meal, and this was all I could come up with." He mumbled. "Though I am glad you slept well." He added, bringing the pot to the table and looking for bowls and utensils
"It's fine. You just wouldn't normally have Ramen for breakfast." Lumi shrugged again, looking into the pot to see how Edmund was doing with it. He grabbed a spoon and touched the noodles with them. "They feel almost done. We can add spices and stuff to make it taste better, too."
Edmund nodded, then cocked his head. "Spices? Oh, yes. Spices! And where doth they be?" He asked, looking around the kitchen.
"Spice rack." Lumi gestured to the little wooden rack with bottles of spices in it. "I usually add garlic powder and a bit of chili powder. Do you like spicy foods?" He asked.
Edmund nodded, squinting at the bottles while his face turned red. "Ohβ¦. Iβ¦. I cannot distinguishβ¦." He turned back around to answer Lumi's question. "Oh, yes! I like any kind of food"
"Alright, we'll just add the normal stuff, then. Garlic powder is this tan one, and chili powder is the red one." Lumi picked up each bottle as he named them, bringing them over to Edmund. "Here. Try not to add too much, yeah?"
Edmund nodded, carefully looking over the containers before opening the lids and sprinkling in a bit of each. With the small accomplishment, he turned excitedly to Lumi, a broad grin across his face
Lumi smiled softly in return and nodded to let Edmund know that he had done alright. "That's fine. Um⦠I think it should be cooked by now, so you can take it off the stove now so it doesn't get all mushy and gross or something."
Edmund nodded, doing as Lumi told and carefully taking the pot off the heat. "Like this?" He asked again, fumbling with the stove until the flames were extinguished
"Yeah, like that. Now we can put it into a couple of bowls and eat it." Lumi yawned as he fetched some bowls from the cupboard, having to stand on their toes to reach them.
Edmund chuckled, then stood behind Lumi, helping him grab the bowls. He blushed when they touched for a moment, then pulled the bowls down to the counter. "H-here"
Lumi flushed lightly as well, but didn't acknowledge the contact otherwise. "Um⦠thanks." He separated the ramen into the two bowls and brought them over to the table. "There. Do you want anything to drink?"
Edmund twiddled his fingers, watching the swirling steam rise from the broth. "Oh, uh, water Is fine." he replied softly, taking a seat
"Alright." Lumi got Edmund a glass of water and some juice for himself before returning to the table. "Um⦠have you thought of any questions you want answered?"
"Could you educate me on how to talk normal?" He blurted, tracing his fingers around the top of the glass. "I realize I sound like a⦠a freak." Edmund pursed his lips, staring into his share of ramen
"You're not a freak, but I guess you will kinda stand out if you talk funny. Umβ¦" Lumi considered, trying to think of some way to plausibly teach Edmund. "We use a lot of slang here. People are lazy when they talk, so they shorten stuff. Uhβ¦ maybe try saying something and I can try and tell you how it might be shortened? I'm not entirely sure how to help." He laughed nervously.
Edmund nodded, lacing his fingers together while he cleared his throat. "Umβ¦. How art the weather this morn? Tis fair to me."
Lumi took a second to process what Edmund said before he replied. "Um⦠'how's the weather this morning? Feels good to me'?"
Edmund nodded, smiling at Lumi's response while he repeated the words a few more times. "So I shall⦠should, not say art? or tis? Or morn?"
"Right, yeah. We could try watching some movies, if you'd like? It might help you get a feel for modern language by listening to them talk." Lumi shrugged.
