Edmund closed his eyes tightly, his wound stinging with hurt while he turned away from Lumi. "I am a monster⦠I should have let mine mother kill me. Oh Lord, what have I done!" He cried, gently setting Lumi down with shaky arms. "I am so terribly sorry. I sincerely am."
Lumi seemed confused when he was put down, and no less upset. They rubbed at their teary eyes with one fist like a child might do, and he hiccuped weakly. "Y-You're not a monsterβ¦" They whispered. "I dβ¦ I d-don't want you deadβ¦ don't talk like that, p-pleaseβ¦"
Edmund debated leaving, ending the pain he had caused for Lumi, then stopped, looking at them fearfully.
"Truly? Youβ¦ you do not think this?" He sniffed, shaking with fear and guilt. "But I have hurt you so muchβ¦"
Lumi shook their head weakly, trying to rub away his tears. "No⦠I-I don't want anybody dead. Even people I hate. N-Not that I hate you, of course! I-I don't hate you at all! But just⦠trying to make the point, yeah? I don't want⦠I don't want you dead."
