The girl peaked up from over Emile's fingertip, looking around.
"Ah…" She didn't know which one to ask about first.
The girl peaked up from over Emile's fingertip, looking around.
"Ah…" She didn't know which one to ask about first.
“How about I just pick one then and if you see another one you want then we can read that one next?” He offered.
"Okay then…" The girl said, looking up at Emile and managing a weak smile.
Emile smiled back at her, grabbing one of the nearby books and sitting down on the floor. “Let’s start with this one then, hm?”
The girl nodded, settling down into Emile's hand as he sat down.
"Okay."
Emile opened the book, slowly beginning to read to her, giving her plenty of time to look at each page as he did so.
Lily looked at the pictures as Emile read, even occasionally giggling at times. She was relaxed much more around Emile now, huddled close.
Emile was glad to see that she was enjoying it. Poor kid really had been through a lot, and deserved a day off.
She really did. She perked up some when a bed of flowers was described, looking to Emile.
"That's my name," she said softly. "Lily."
“Oh is it?” He smiled at her. “That’s a lovely name, dear.”
Lily smiled just a little bit, looking down at the book.
"Thank you…"
“You’re very welcome.” He said before continuing to read to her, almost done with the book.
Lily was very relaxed now, her head resting on top of Emile's finger. She smiled as the story got a happy ending, cuddling close.
“Okay do you want to get another one?” He asked. “You can even choose the next one if you want.”
"Mm, another one would be nice…" Lily looked around, pointing to one book in particular.
“This one?” He asked, going over and picking it up to be sure.
"Mhm!" Lily seemed to be much happier, now, a bit of it coming into her tone.
It'd all go away when she learned this was temporary.
(( :( ))
“Okay I’ll read this one for you then!” He wanted to try to keep her safe, but he knew he couldn’t.
"Thank you!" Lily was much more comfortable around Emile, now. He had managed to be nice for longer than Astral had, after all. She hummed some, holding onto his finger like one would a stuffed toy, happier.
Emile started reading the new book, a smile on his face. If given the chance, he’d keep her. He was hoping Astral would forget about her.
Perhaps he'd be able to. Perhaps not. Either way, he was able to give her at least one good day. Lily hummed contently as she was read to, looking down from Emile's hand to look at the pretty pictures.
Same as before, Emile gave her plenty of time to look at each picture as he read. He’d clearly read to kids before, probably Simon honestly.
Lily would occasionally ask about things in the pictures, things most kids lived with on Earth on the daily. She didn't even know what different foods were…
Emile would always stop to explain it to her, but each thing made him feel bad for her. Poor girl had never really lived.
Lily found herself smiling a bit more each time Emile took the time to explain things, legs swinging some behind her as she looked down at the book. She looked up to Emile at one point, smiling brightly at him.
