Cliff patted Milo's back, petting him absentmindedly as he watched the game.
Milo himself was very asleep, and he wasn't moving at all aside from his breathing and the occasional tail thump.
(Should we TS to where Damien gets home?)
(Sure)
Damien came back in, shutting the door a little harder than he meant to. He whistled for Ginger, then remembered she was shut up in his room, and groaned a little harder than he meant to along with it.
Milo jumped up and barked, running to go meet Damien. "Damien? That you?" Rowan asked, hoisting himself up on his crutches with a wince.
"Yeah." Damien replied, walking into the living room. "I'm gonna let the cat out, gimme a second."
"Uh… okay." Rowan glanced over at Cliff and moved forward a bit, sitting on the armrest of the couch to wait for Damien.
Cliff simply shrugged, shooting Rowan a slight look. Damien came back out of his room with Ginger in his arms, who looked like she'd been going absolutely stir-crazy in his room alone.
"Um… you okay, Damien?" Rowan asked tentatively. "Bad night at work, or…?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine." Damien mumbled in reply. He set Ginger down, making sure she didn't go after Milo while he slept. "How're you guys doing?"
"I'm doin' alright." Cliff shrugged in response.
"I'm fine…" Rowan still seemed a bit worried about Damien, but he didn't bring it up again. "We mostly just watched some football game on TV. I think the ones we wanted to win… uh… won."
"That's always good." Damien rubbed his eyes. He barely opened his mouth to talk before Cliff interjected.
"Y'all, I think I'm gonna head out. Been nice bein' here, thanks for havin' me 'n all that." The boy got up, putting his hat back on and grabbing his keys from the coffee table.
"Oh- yeah. Yeah. I'll see you later, Cliff."
"Thanks for coming, Cliff…" Rowan sighed and waved goodbye, waiting for Cliff to leave before he looked up at Damien again. "Soooo… how was it?"
"What, the shift? Normal." Damien shrugged. "It was fine. Why?" He looked up from the cat to Rowan.
"I-I dunno, you just… you seem kinda off… and you closed the door loudly and stuff, so I just… sorry… I thought you were upset or something."
"Nah. You're fine." Damien leaned back on the couch. "Just tired. That's it."
Rowan nodded, sighing softly. "Sorry… I've been overthinking things all night."
"Don't worry about it." He rubbed his eyes. "It's just- y'know. I got work to do. Then I'm probably gonna go to bed early. Y'know."
Rowan nodded again. "Yeah…" He was quiet for a bit. "Cliff really likes sports."
"Yeah?" Damien laughed. "He's a big football guy."
"He really is… it became rather clear that I know nothing about football pretty soon after we started watching."
"I think he's probably told me everything I know about it." Damien rubbed his eyes, reaching over to pet Ginger under the chin.
"Yeah…" Rowan was quiet for a few seconds. "I still don't really get it, to be honest…"
"That's fine." Damien shook his head. "Hey, uh- I'm gonna do my homework. Now." He got up to grab his backpack. "I'll be right back."
