“It is,” I insisted. “You have made it this far. Farther than any other female has ever gotten, and you’ll get to the end.”
“It is,” I insisted. “You have made it this far. Farther than any other female has ever gotten, and you’ll get to the end.”
“I really hope so..” I twined the final wildflower through a lock of his hair and grinned. “Done!”
I was almost pulling myself off of her lap when I heard it—that familiar voice. Blood drained from my face. Shit.
“My dear, older brother!” Vivian, my eleven-year-old sister, called out in her sweet voice. “Where are you? Why didn’t you tell me you had brought a girl home?”
I laughed softly, shaking my head in an amused fashion. “I’m Isabella, remember?” I whispered under my breath.
“I remember,” I sighed loudly. “Could you—“
Then she came into view. Vivian, my little sister, looked like a carbon copy of me. From the style of our hair to the way she walked, even. The only difference was our personality. While I was more reserved, she was outgoing.
“Oh my God, are those flowers in your hair?” She slapped a hand over her mouth to contain her laughter. “Whoa, wait till mom and dad find out. They’re going to be shocked.”
Instead of panicking, my face split open into a huge smile. “Hey, Vivian, right?” I asked, standing to greet her. “I’m Isabella, it’s really nice to meet you.”
I pulled myself to my feet, walking over to Vivian, who made her way towards Elle.
“Pretty,” she mused to herself. “I prefer blondes for my brother, but you do well, too. Especially if he let you put flowers in his hair.”
I snorted, shaking my head.
“What do I have to do to keep you silent about this?” I asked her, quirking an eyebrow. She grinned at me.
“Let me ride with Key,” she said. “He runs away from me all the time, but I want him to give me a ride. I promise I’ll keep silent if you do that!”
I’m sorry, Key, but it must be done.
I laughed softly and seated myself beside Colton. “Come, sit with us!” I invited, “I want to get to know my boyfriend’s sister.”
Vivian responded immediately, pushing past me to sit next to Elle.
“Where are you from?” Vivian questioned immediately. “How did you and my brother meet?”
She looked so similar to Colton… it brought amusement to the curve of my lips. “A nearby village,” I responded vaguely. “And we met near the beginning of the year. Tell me about yourself! What kind of things do you like?”
Vivian hummed to herself, taking the bait.
“I like horse riding,” she answered. “I can’t be a bondmate, so I’m going to be a horse rider. I do have a pony. Her name’s Nova.”
Give it a few years.. I wanted to say. If all goes well, you’ll have the opportunity to bond…
“That’s cool!” I responded instead. “Do you like racing and show jumping? Or just riding?”
I offered Elle a smile, reaching out to ruffle Vivian’s hair. She didn’t slap my hand away, though she did glare at me.
“I like racing and show jumping, too,” she said excitedly. “And even fencing. My parents and Cole think I’m too young to try fencing, but Cole secretly has me practice.”
My eyes glittered with mischief. "I bet one day, you'll kick your brother's butt in fencing~"
I scoffed.
“Right. As if,” I snorted the same time as Vivian tried to push me away.
“Of course I will!” She exclaimed. “He doesn’t even practice anymore unless its with me. You’ve stolen him away.”
I laughed sweetly and leaned sideways to affectionately peck his cheek. "He's been helping me with my fencing too, you know." It was a half-truth, and one that I didn't mind telling Vivian. I wanted to appeal to her—I needed to. She was Colton's sister, I had to prove that I was good enough for him.
I looked at Elle, chuckling at her comment. Did she want to try that hard? She was adorable. Vivian seemed to have bought it because she looked excited.
“He does? Wow,” she looked amazed. “Does that mean you’re my rival now?”
"No, never," I chuckled, holding out my hand for a high-five. "We can be a team. Right, Cole?"
“Definitely,” I snorted, shaking my head. Vivian reaches out to high-five her with a grin.
“I like you,” she grinned. “Even if you didn’t fence. You put flowers in my brother’s hair!”
At that moment, my grin was bright enough to rival the sun. "I like you, too. If you want, I can do your hair as well."
Vivian immediately scooted closer to Elle.
“Yes,” she breathed out. “I love flowers.”
"You're a lot like your brother, then," I teased, tugging the younger girl closer. "How do you like your hair? A full braid? Two plaits? Half-up?"
“Half up,” she responded excitedly. “Or a full braid. Whatever you think is better.”
Humming in acknowledgment, I cast a curious glance towards Colton. What did he think of all this?
I offered her a smile, nodding in approval. Of course Vivian would like Elle. She’d like her even more once she finds out who Elle really is.
“Well, I guess I’m left out, huh?” I said jokingly. “You’re taking my place on my pillow.”
