"You're good at helping people," Derlik pointed out. "It was your job for a long time, remember?"
"You're good at helping people," Derlik pointed out. "It was your job for a long time, remember?"
"But I'm… not good at that anymore…" Nix looked down at the ground, his eyes a bit glassy. "Ever since I turned into a person, I've just been making things worse for everybody."
"You didn't make things worse for me," Derlik pointed out, "and I'm counted in that everybody. You're loved, Nix, I don't want to lose you."
Nix sighed and looked away, his ears turned back. "If you say so. Not like I'd ever really die, anyway. Can't get rid of my soul."
"No, but you want your memories taken, and that's the same thing as dying. It might be your soul still, but it won't be your life anymore." Derlik reached his hand up, gently running it through Nix's hair.
Nix closed his eyes, tiredly leaning into Derlik's hand. "It's just… hard. And I'm tired, a-and I don't really want to have to do it anymore. You're the only one who wants me anymore and I don't think they trust you."
"I understand why they don't trust me," Derlik said softly, moving them so Nix was laying properly against his chest. "But I just want to help you, Nix." The god pressed a small kiss to Nix's head.
Nix buried his face in Derlik's chest, wanting to be hidden. He was already small beside the god, but he seemed to be trying to make himself smaller. He was quiet for a bit, but then he seemed to be sniffling quietly. "I'm s-sorry…" He whispered.
Derlik fell quiet when Nix did, holding him close and rubbing his back. He didn't want to scare him.
"It's okay," he murmured back, pressing a kiss to Nix's head and patting his back.
"I… feel like they're upset with me more, now…" Nix murmured softly. "I do things wrong now. When I was a cat, I was just a dumb animal to them… they weren't mad at me very often because nothing I did seemed to have any intention."
"They're seeing you as a person, now. And if they don't remember that you're new to this whole human thing… That's their mistake." Derlik continued to gently rub Nix, keeping him to his chest. "What I can tell you, though, is they still care about you."
Nix sighed softly. "I just… don't know what I should do. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't know how to be a person correctly, because… it's not something I ever considered much."
"Well… I won't be much help there. I'm not a person, after all." Derlik shrugged. "You know who is, though..? Cas. He can help."
Nix fidgeted nervously with his hands and looked away. "I dunno… do you think he would want to help me?"
"I think he would," Derlik assured, running his fingers through Nix's hair.
"Okay… maybe we can give it a shot. You know a lot of humans though, don't you? Can't you give me some pointers?" Nix asked weakly.
"Well… I don't know as much as you might think I do, Nix. Most of the humans I deal with are drunk, or high, or a combination of other things," Derlik explained. "I can try, though."
Nix sighed, resting his head on Derlik's shoulder. "Alright… thanks." He said softly. "What kind of tips do you have?"
"Well… mistakes are going to happen. It's a human thing, after all. The best thing you can do, though, I keep your chin up and remember we aren't going to be upset with you." Derlik moved his hand to Nix's head, smiling at him.
Nix nodded a bit, relaxing somewhat into Derlik's touch. "Alright… if you say so." He sighed. "What else am I supposed to do? Even just little stuff that'll make me more… normal."
"Mm… Well, some small things you could do…" Derlik trailed off, thinking. "There's a lot you do that is already normal, Nix. Even the things that aren't so normal are still human."
"I guess so, but… if I don't act so weird, then maybe they'll start treating me more like a… like my own person, you know? It's hard for them to think of me as anything other than… um… a cat turned into a person, I guess…"
"I can see that," Derlik said, nodding some. "Well, you could try using utensils on your own."
"I guess so… I'm not very used to holding things, though, so I guess I'll have to practice." Nix sighed, looking down at his hands.
"I can help with that," Derlik said, pressing a kiss to Nix's head. "And Cas can help with the things I can't think of."
