Nix closed his eyes and shook his head a bit, not able to move much with Derlik holding onto him. "N-No… we can't…"

We can," Derlik insisted. "I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure of it. You trust me, don't you?"

"Yeah, but… I don't trust him." Nix insisted.

"And that's why I'm here to make sure he can't do anything," Derlik continued. He pressed a kiss to Nix's head, holding him close.

"What if he overpowers you, though? What if he turns you to stone again?"

"He won't be able to. He's too weak, and I'm the only one taking care of him. He won't get strong enough to do that, I promise."

"Hmph." Nix looked away again, not seeming convinced. "What if he can do it even when he's weak?"

"I know he can't," Derlik assured. "He isn't even able to lift his hand, let alone touch me and spend the energy to change me."

"He will be able to at some point, though!" He insisted. "He'll heal at some point!"

"He won't! Not without my help!" Derlik held Nix close, shaking his head.

Nix huffed, closing his eyes. "I-I dunno… I just… can't help but be nervous about it."

"I know, Nix…" Derlik kissed the man's head, holding him close. "I'm going to make sure everything is okay, though. Please trust me."

"Mmmmm…" Nix buried his face in Derlik's shoulder and whined, "…fine, I guess…"

"Thank you," Derlik said softly. He held Nix close, rubbing his back and rocking them some.

Nix turned his ears back and sighed, seeming pretty uneasy still. "I don't wanna go back…"

"I don't either…" Derlik kissed Nix's head, humming.

"But we have to, don't we? We can't just stay out here or anything…"

Derlik shook his head once.
"No, we can't…" The god fell silent, resting his head on top of Nix's again. "I'm sorry."

Nix fell quiet, hiding his face and curling his tail around himself. He sighed softly, but he didn't speak.

Derlik didn't speak either, but he did hold Nix close. He hummed softly, gently rocking them and setting his head on top of Nix's.

"I don't want to go back…" Nix mumbled after a while. "I don't want to be there… I don't want to do this anymore."

"I don't either…" Derlik said softly, "But I'm not going to leave your side, not ever. We're in this together."

"Mm… I don't want to be in this at all… I wanna go home. I wanna go back to the way it was before."

"I know… I think everyone does. Still, we have to live with what we have. We can't give up." Derlik cupped Nix's cheek, kissing his head again.

"Mm… I guess so…" Nix mumbled, sighing softly to himself. "Just don't wanna do this…"
