Bane came back after a while, shaking his head with his hand to his temple. He looked upset. He seems to get more and more upset every time he gets in his angry state. A few knives were missing from his belt. Bane's footsteps were heavy, heavier than usual. He took a deep breath, muttering, "What was I thinking?" He's having a hard time grappling with why toning down his hostility was difficult.
Cavendish walks over and places their non-broken hand on Bane's cheek. They look him in his eyes, then get on their tiptoes, leaning their forehead on Bane's.
This startled bane, going wide-eyed. His cheek lifted a bit from the touch. "Um—hi..". He didn't dare to move. In fact, he stayed there frozen like a goat that had been knocked over.
Cavendish doesn't move, waiting for Bane to relax.
Bane's muscles relax a bit. His eyes are darting around in a confused manner. He didn't know what was going on, making him very nervous. His ear twitched many times in nervous confusion.
Cavendish leans back a bit to look at Bane.
"I know it's difficult to reign in your emotions. But please, do it for me, at the very least." they murmur.
Bane's breathing slowed, and he closed his eyes. "That's not why I'm upset, Cavendish. Yes, it's difficult to control them… but I did something I shouldn't have. Cavendish, I used my command ability. I hate using that ability. I don't even know why I did. I just wanted to help Devon, but that's no excuse for why I used it. Ugh." Next thing you know, he's pacing around. "I had to use my throwing knives to murder a squirrel to get my mind off of it. I don't think I can undo any of dad's molding. He did too much." He said the last bit in a growl. It came from low in his throat.
Cavendish sighs. "Please, call me Lis at least."
They look at Bane steadily.
"I think. . . that if the person you're trying to help is being purposefuly obtuse. . . that you can and should help them, using whatever you can." they say slowly.
They lean their forehead against Bane's once more. "I think that you can. I think that even though your father is a jackass, I think you still want to please him. You don't need to. You've never needed to. Whatever he thinks of you, let him think it. Just do what you want to do."
They kiss Bane's forehead softly, then step away. "I hope I've given you enough to think about."
Bane gave Lis a sad gaze, then sat on the floor. He called for Naize, wanting to pet the kitty as a comfort. "Isn't it sad that I hate my father and still want to prove I'm the top killer out of his hounds? It's a bit silly if I say so myself. Someone who can't let go of what they've come to know."
Lis sits down next to Bane, sighing, leaning their head on his shoulder.
"It isn't sad. It's natural." they reply.
Bane flinched. He took off his necklace and studied it. "Sometime's natural things can be sad. Like a pet getting a really severe injury or a human getting really sick." He closed his hand around the necklace. "I have ruined the meaning of the charm on this."
Lis places their hand on Bane's chest, removing their head from his shoulder.
"I know. Nature sucks. But sometimes, things need to break. That's the only way for some things to get healthy again." they murmur. "Well, not bones, but you get what I mean."
They look at the pendant, then gently take it from Bane. They loop it around their own neck. "I'll keep it safe for you. I don't want you to regret losing it if anything happens."
Bane watched Lis put on his necklace. "The symbol is the alchemy symbol of antimony. It is connected to the wolf and means change. I wore it for remembrance and control." He paused. "But I have lost control, it seems. I've lost control of my anger and my surroundings."
Lis shakes their head slightly.
"Loss of control can't be controlled, in and of itself." they sigh.
"And as for your surroundings. . . I doubt you ever could've controlled them. The world has a way of throwing you off balance at unexpected moments." they add.
Bane looked at the ground. His tail manifested, and he curled it around himself. "I'm trying, Lis. I'm trying! It is difficult. I'm relearning everything. You know my father's teaching methods. They're horrendous. He left out the important things that could have made me seem human. I try to have control so I can feel in control." Bane whistled for Naize again, desperately wanting to pet the kitty.
Lis shifts so that they're facing Bane. They take his much larger hands in theirs, taking their arm from the sling and using it normally, despite the cracking sounds and the pain.
"I know you're trying. I can see it. Hell, I can feel it. I can see you struggling. If I could, I would take this feeling away from you if I could. But I can't." they murmur.
"It's hard to relearn things, but at least I have wonderful people by my side." Bane became alarmed. "Put that arm back in its sling! I can't stand to hear or look at what I have done :(." He looked at Lis with suspicion in his eyes. "Can't you heal yourself or something?"
Lis chuckles. "You think me - us - wonderful?"
They tilt their head, shaking their head but doing it anyways. "It's a part of who I am now. If I hadn't wanted it to happen, it wouldn't have happened. It's mostly my fault."
They smile. "I could, but what's the fun in that?"
Bane smiled. "Yes, I think you guys are great. I just—don't really like Devon's sister. Have you seen how she treats him?!" He seemed to be protective of the kid. "I hate people like that!" He sighs. "Lis, I don't like hurting people I am fond of. But you try to get yourself hurt by me… the guilt afterward isn't fun to deal with."
Lis smiles. "Thank you."
They pause. "I know. I don't like her either."
"I'll keep that in mind next time we're playing tug-of-war." they laugh, quickly, then sober up. "On a more serious note, I'm sorry."
Bane perked up. "Sorry for what?" He looked at them with a furrowed brow. He was fidgeting with his hands because he no longer had his necklace to play with. He held his tail tighter against his body. "What have you done that there is a need for an apology?"
"For hurting you, by by hurting myself." Lis smiles. "What else would I apologise for?"
They notice his hands fidgeting, and takes one, using her non-broken hand.
"Thank you.." Bane smiled at Lis. "I don't want to be rude, but uh… may I have my necklace back please. I use it to play with when I'm nervous. As you can see… I then restort to fidgeting with my hands." He laughed nervously.
(in.. Sorry but summery please 🙏 )
(Hm, it's a lot of Lis and Bane talking about wholesome things. Bane called for Naize because he needed some comfort. Bane was mostly talking about how he's struggling to control his anger and how his dad ruined him. He also talks about how Lis using him to hurt herself is affecting him. They respond to him with words of encouragement and apologize. They also take his necklace to keep it safe. Now he's asking for it back to fidget with it.)
