Rowan nodded a bit. "Alright, sounds good… I definitely don't want Fluff eating my new babies."
Rowan nodded a bit. "Alright, sounds good… I definitely don't want Fluff eating my new babies."
"We'll keep them safe," Matthew promised. He smiled a bit, looking at the eggs once.
Rowan smiled softly as well and nodded again. "I'm guessing the dinner plan is bread and cheese again?"
"I've also got mushrooms, onions, and berries. We could cook the first two together to put on the bread, then have the berries for dessert? They're really sweet." Matthew smiled, going about setting up camp for the night and getting the food.
"Sure!" Rowan grinned brightly and got himself more comfortable on the grass. "That sounds good to me Matthew. Do you go camping often?"
"I do, in fact. Usually when I'm gathering food or hunting for the village." Matthew hummed, easily starting a fire. He set about coming the mushrooms and onions, cutting them up.
Rowan nodded a bit and watched Matthew curiously. "I'm a city boy. (born and raised in South Detroit)I'm not really used to being out here in the wild." He laughed softly.
"I see, I see. Well, I can always show you the ins and outs later if you want." Matthew hummed as he cooked, a soft lullaby.
"Sounds fun to me." Rowan smiled softly. "I never really got to go camping when I was a kid… my dad wasn't around to take me, you know?"
"Really?" Matthew looked up at Rowan. "Why not?" It was a bit hard for him to understand. He'd never really been faced with anything like that before, not in his small village.
Rowan flushed a bit. "Um… well… when I was really little, he cheated on my mom, and he was also pretty abusive, so… she kicked him out. He was never exactly present."
Matthew was surprised by this information, to be sure.
"How could someone do that to the woman who raised someone as sweet as you?"
Rowan flushed harder and looked away. "U-Um… I dunno, honestly… I hardly remember him. I was only about four years old when she kicked him out."
"Oh…" Matthew looked down, sighing softly.
"Well, your mother obviously did an excellent job on her own." He smiled faintly.
Rowan smiled weakly as well. "Yeah, she was always great… she did a wonderful job for a single mother, although she did coddle me a bit. She was always very protective of me."
"Well, I don't blame her. I'd want to protect you too." Matthew looked back up, blushing a bit when he realized how that sounded.
Rowan flushed again and looked away. "I-I… um… thanks, Matthew…" He replied softly. "We visit each other a lot so we don't lose touch."
"I… you're welcome," Matthew said in a small voice. Matthew ran his fingers through his hair, blushing still.
"My family and I do as well. It must be easier, though, since the village is so small anyway…"
"True. The city I live in is really big, so… there's like, eight million something people there. Luckily, my mom and I live pretty close."
Matthew let out a long breath.
"T-that's… That's a lot of people…"
"Yeah, I guess so… New York is big, though. Very crowded and noisy and polluted… there's like, eight billion total people on earth, though, so…"
Matthew's eyes widened.
"There- there are only thought to be about eight million people in total in this world."
"Really? That's wild… this entire place has the same population as my city?" Rowan asked, confused. "I mean… earth is pretty big…"
"So is this world… How do so many people fit? What about the animals, and the plants?" Matthew hummed faintly. He took the food off the fire now, setting some on the bread and cheese. The juices from it soaked into the best, the cheese melting underneath.
"Well, New York is really urban. It's mostly a bunch of buildings and roads and stuff… not a lot of wild animals. There's lots of apartments so lots of people can live in the same building." Rowan shrugged.
