Rowan flushed a bit. "W-Well, I dunno… sometimes people order really complicated stuff and they yell at me if I don't make it exactly the way they like it. I don't like being yelled at, though…"
Rowan flushed a bit. "W-Well, I dunno… sometimes people order really complicated stuff and they yell at me if I don't make it exactly the way they like it. I don't like being yelled at, though…"
Matthew nodded a bit, thinking this over. His other arm slipped around Rowan, almost protective.
"Well, I'll make sure to not let anyone yell at you while you're here with me." He offered a small smile.
Rowan smiled weakly and flushed a bit harder with a small nod. "Thanks, Matthew… if I do end up getting my mom to stay and starting a coffee shop, hopefully the people here wouldn't yell at me…"
"If anyone tries to, I'd drag them out of the shop myself. But knowing the people who live around here, it won't happen." Matthew's wing shifted a bit, curling the rest around himself and Rowan.
Rowan huddled a bit closer and closed his eyes, still smiling. "Thanks… maybe you could work there with me!" He grinned brightly. Unless you already have a job…"
"I'm a guard for my village, but it's usually just in the evenings. I could definitely work with you." Matthew grinned, wrapping his arms a bit better around Rowan.
"That'd be so much fun!" Rowan huddled closer to Matthew, still grinning. "I don't wanna get myself too excited, though… I still don't know if my mom would be okay with coming. You might have to go with me so she knows I'm not lying."
"Ah… I think that would be quite interesting, seeing a part of your world." Matthew held Rowan close, smiling at the thought.
"We'll have to make sure we have a way back, though."
"True… like I said, there's no magic in my world, so I'm not entirely sure how it works. I'm sure the mages can give us something." Rowan smiled softly and rested his head against Matthew's chest. "My mom's really sweet. I think you'll like her."
Matthew raised one hand to rest lightly on Rowan's head.
"I don't doubt you. But, tell me, do you think she would like me, too?" The avian hummed faintly.
"Mm… yeah, I think so. You're nice and respectful and you're going a pretty good job of taking care of me for the moment, so… I'm pretty sure she'd like you. She might be intimidated at first though since you're so tall. She's even shorter than I am."
"Shorter?" Matthew echoed. He chuckled a bit. "I'll do my best not to be too intimidating, then. Though, the wings might not help." He blushed slightly. It felt good to hear Rowan speak so well about him.
Rowan laughed a bit. "Yeah, she's little. She's like… 5'1, I think? Somewhere around there. We're on the shorter end, but in general, people are shorter where I come from than they are here. There's only a very small percentage of people who are as tall as you guys."
"Ah… I see." Matthew hummed a bit. "So you're just short and cute wherever you go." Matthew didn't realize the second part of what he was thinking slipped out until it was too late.
Rowan flushed red and looked down at the ground, his chest thumping as his heart skipped a beat. "I-I… um… I guess so…" He replied nervously. "I'm pretty short for a guy…"
Matthew's face turned bright red, and he looked away a moment.
"I-I see…" He let out a small sound of embarrassment, covering his face with one hand.
"I-I, uh-"
Rowan buried his red face in Matthew's chest, his heart still pounding. He wasn't sure what to say at this point, and he wasn't sure he was even particularly coherent with how flustered he was.
Matthew fell silent. Oh god, he'd known this man for a total of less than a day, and he had already called him cute. Great.
"I- I'm sorry," he finally said quietly. That it had slipped out, not for meaning it.
"D-Don't be, it's really alright." Rowan smiled weakly, his face still very red. "You're not the only one who thinks that~" He replied, trying to act confident, but soon burying his flushed face in his hands with an anguished whine.
Matthew let out a small squeak at that. He wrapped his arms around Rowan again, looking away.
"Ah-! I- uh-"
"Sorry, sorry, I dunno what I'm doing…" Rowan whimpered, his voice muffled from him continuing to hide his face. "I'm really bad at this if you can't tell." He laughed.
Matthew have a nervous laugh.
"Well, you're not the only one…" Matthew trailed off. He ran his fingers through Rowan's hair once, hoping to calm then both down.
"Y-Yeah…" Rowan flushed harder when Matthew touched his hair, hesitating before leaning into the avian's hand. He clearly liked it, but he was still flustered and nervous.
Matthew closed his eyes a moment, fingers still trailing through Rowan's hair. He let it a faint, nervous hum.
Rowan fidgeted nervously with his hands, keeping his eyes closed for now as he struggled to ignore the painfully awkward atmosphere. "U-Um… when are we gonna be stopping next?"
