Babe sighed, slinking out of the car. She pulled the tissues from her nose, revealing drying blood, and wiped at the fresh blood. "Yeah, yeah. I figured."
Babe sighed, slinking out of the car. She pulled the tissues from her nose, revealing drying blood, and wiped at the fresh blood. "Yeah, yeah. I figured."
Henry hesitated before the door. "You're good, though, right? Or do you want me to pull out the first aid kit in the car?"
"I'll be fine." Babe said, not a direct answer. None of her injuries were that bad, minus the possibly broken nose though. Especially compared to the three guys she'd gotten into the fight with.
Henry sighed, opening the door and letting her in first. "She's home!" He called into the house, closing the door behind himself. Hopefully, her brothers would be able to convince her to get some medical help.
"Shush!" Babe quickly slapped a hand over Henry's mouth, very likely getting a bit of blood on his cheek. "Ma's home, so shush." She hissed, dragging him up the stairs and to her bedroom. Where Rico was already sitting on her bed, arms crossed and tapping a foot.
Henry made sure she went in, blocking the door. He spoke quietly and quickly. "Rico, where do you keep your antibiotics and gauze, and bandaids and stuff?"
"The drawer on her dresser has the best first aid kit." Rico said, glaring at his sister.
Babe shuffled to her closet, avoiding everyone's gaze as she riffled around for a change of clothes not covered in blood. "I'm fine."
Henry found the first aid kit and flipped it open. "Do you want bandaids or some kind of gauze?" He set it down, digging through it and pulling out a few tubes of cream.
"I want nothin', 'cause I'm fine." Babe said, turning to look at him as she pulled an old band t-shirt and a pair of shorts out of the closet.
Henry raised an eyebrow, not believing her for a second. "Right. And I'm sure your mom won't notice any of those bruises."
Babe opened her mouth to say something else, and paused. He was right. And this time around, she couldn't blame it on a more violent hockey game.
A small smile crept onto his face, once he realized she knew he was right. He set the kit down, handing her some antibiotics.
She huffed, accepting the pill bottle as she plopped down on the ground. She pointedly avoided her brother's gaze boring into the side of her head as she downed a couple of the pills dry. "You guys really don' have t' worry."
Henry coughed down a sarcastic laugh. "Someone has to worry, Babe. And you've clearly demonstrated that someone isn't going to be you."
"Yeah. 'cause I know I can handle myself." Babe said, shaking her head. A small dark spot was slowly growing on her shirt, right on her left side where she hit the ground. A rock was likely to blame.
"Are you going to take care of that? Otherwise, either Rico or I can hold you down and do it for you." Henry said, gesturing towards the spot. He was leaning more and more towards restraining her so they could take care of her.
"I already took out three guys larger than me, I won' hesitate to add another t' that list." Babe warned, looking down at the blood. After a moment, she wrinkled her nose, sliding her shirt off. "Man, I hate rocks."
Henry bit his lip when she started taking the shirt off, shaking his head and shaking off the feeling. He handed her a patch of gauze to wipe away the blood. "Let's not test your luck."
"I'm a lucky person." Babe quipped, wiping at the gauze. She'd apparently forgotten about the large scar over her kidney, and didn't seem to notice the way Rico's eyes widened as they landed on it.
Henry's eyes caught the scar as well, and he immediately looked at Rico with a questioning gaze. "How does one get a scar like that?"
Babe stilled, her own eyes widening at the slip up. Her family didn't know. They weren't supposed to know, because it was another one of her secrets.
"I don't know." Rico said, his eyes never leaving his sister as she hurriedly reached for the clean shirt, to cover the scar and the mottled purple and yellow bruises. "Babe."
Henry's expression grew more worried when Rico confessed he didn't know. He hesitated, not wanting to interfere with the family, but at the same time incredibly worried about whatever Babe was hiding.
Babe paused, eyes flickering between the two of them. "I-" She cut off, looking conflicted. She almost wanted to tell them, odd;y enough, but she couldn't risk it leaving the room. If her mom found out…
"We aren't going to tell anyone." Henry said honestly, glancing over at the door. She wasn't denying it, wasn't lying about it. That, at least, seemed to be a good thing.
"Kid-kidney transplant." Babe finally said, voice a whisper after a long period of silence.
"What?" Rico stood quickly, eyes widening. "A kidney transplant? Why did you need a kidney? How'd you manage to hide that?"
