After this, Tohru checked the time.
"I need to get ready for work soon. How's it going?"
After this, Tohru checked the time.
"I need to get ready for work soon. How's it going?"
"Good, just about done. Have fun at work." Davin replied. "Or at least, stay safe." He smiled a little.
"I'll stay safe at least," Tohru laughed, "My coworkers are pretty nice so far, so no complaints there. I think last night was one of their busier nights, though, so maybe it won't be so… intense."
Tohru put up his brush and started towards the bedroom.
He nodded. "Of course. That's good, then." He smiled softly.
Tohru scrubbed a bit of paint off his skin once he took off his clothes, then he changed into his outfit for work and tied his hair back into a bun. With a soft exhale, he turned his gaze up to his reflection in the mirror. Gods, he looked tired.
He scoffed and put his dirty clothes in the hamper before shuffling on out.
He grabbed his keys, device, and wallet before coming back through into the kitchen.
"I'm headed out. See you later. Let me know if you need anything while I'm out!"
Davin waved. "See you, Tohru. Be safe." he replied, smiling as he looked over at the othe rman.
With a wave, Tohru headed out the door.
As he walked to work, he was thinking to himself how to get ahold of some piece of Kaythan for Davin. How he could afford such a thing, as stealing was pretty risky.
He had some savings. He had a job. Neither would put him anywhere close to being able to afford such a thing.
As he got into the bar, strapped on his apron, and went behind the counter, Kira was mixing a drink.
For now, the bar was quiet. Just a very soft hum of conversation from the few groups of people there, mostly just friends getting drinks on a lazy afternoon.
"Hey, I'm gonna teach you how to actually mix some drinks today, since we're a lot slower than last night."
Tohru flashed her a quick smile. "Sounds good. Hopefully I'll catch on okay."
"Ah, we've got a cheat sheet back here. You don't have to commit everything to memory."
Davin took a deep breath, and finished up the painting. He changed out of the paint stained clothes when he was done, and sat down on the couch, checking messages to see if he had gotten any replies about his applications. To his happiness, he had, and he set up appointments for the next day to do interviews.
There was a bit of a lull in the crowd for some time. Tohru sat back, scrolling through his device in the meantime, though he did keep his attention on the few clients, prepared to see if they needed anything.
He was scrolling through some news and happened upon a section with recent bounties that had been put up. One of the images gave him pause. Where had he seen that face before?
He looked back up. The man was sitting by the window in this very room. And he was wanted. Dead or alive.
This one had fallen right into his hands.
"Hey, is that guy a regular?" Tohru asked, gesturing at him.
Kira shook her head. "No. Why?"
"I thought I recognized him from last night."
"I don't know that he was here last night."
"Oh. I'm not the best with faces," Tohru laughed, trying to cover any suspicion, "I just thought it might be nice to get to know some of the people who frequent this place."
"You'll get there in time. Besides, they'll usually approach you, not the other way around."
Tohru let out a silent sigh. How would he track this guy down once he left? Should he make some effort to be friendly in order to dupe him? Ask around a bit? Stalk and follow him home? He was on his job. That was the problem.
Davin turned on some music and cleaned up the apartment, then made sure he had a good pair of clothes to wear to the interviews.
The target had been drinking alone. It was enough for Tohru to subtly strike up conversation and extract some information that would allow him to trap the man.
Not to mention, if he was drunk, he was more likely to overshare and less likely to fight back properly when the time came.
By the time the client left, Tohru had a hotel to trace him back to.
Pleased, he went back to mixing drinks other patrons had ordered.
"Have some good conversation with that guy?" Kira asked, "You seem happy."
"Oh yeah, he's not from around here. He was an interesting figure to talk to."
"That's always a pleasant change of pace."
Tohru gave a quick nod, glad she hadn't questioned further.
When his shift was over, he walked with Kira part of the way home and split off from her eventually. He was glad the hotel wasn't horribly far from their apartment. Otherwise, he probably would've had to make up some excuse that he had to go to the store, or something to keep her from knowing. It probably wasn't good practice to hunt down a patron.
Davin continued listening to music and reading, after checking that his clothes were clean and ready.
Tohru let out a deep breath as he approached the hotel. It was a lot nicer than he'd anticipated. The guy he was hunting down was probably rich as all get out. After all, he was specifically wanted for participating in predatory prostitution rings. Tohru took no issue with killing the guy on the spot this time, no questions asked.
As he skirted the back side of the building, he saw a small plume of smoke rising from the balcony, where the man had a lit cigar between his fingers. Perfect. He wouldn't even have to ask around.
Tohru counted the floors up and doors down, trying to figure out which room it was, so he could approach from the inside. While at the bar, he had pickpocketed the patron and stolen an antique pocketwatch when he wasn't looking. He could easily pose as trying to return it, then catch him off guard.
Once he was certain which room the man was staying in, he walked inside, trying to look like he knew what he was doing so no one would stop him. He stopped at the door and paused before knocking.
The man opened the door, a blaster pointed at Tohru. He backed up, his hands raised.
"Sir, sir!" he said frantically, "It's just me. You um- you dropped something while you were in the bar, is all. I had to wait until the end of my shift to return it. The people in the front were really nice and told me where you were staying."
The blaster lowered a bit.
"What did I-?"
Tohru dangled the pocketwatch in front of him, and he reached out a hand to take it back.
"Oh, dear. Can't believe I dropped that. Thanks. Would you have a smoke with me outside before you leave?"
Tohru shrugged. "I don't know if I- well… I guess I do have time."
The man lit his cigar for him. Tohru almost choked on the smoke at first. He'd smoked before, but it wasn't something he did often at all. They had been chatting for a while. Anger was bubbling up inside Tohru. He somehow hated this man so much, even though he just met him, but it was justified. Yet, he waited until he thought the man let his guard slip just enough. Then he struck.
Tohru brought out a switchblade and aimed for the man's chest. Much to his surprise, he moved out of the way and grabbed Tohru by the arm, slamming him into the doorframe.
"Another assassin, huh?" he chuckled, "A clever one at that. Walked in right through the front door."
Tohru broke his arm free and stumbled back into the room.
"You scum…" he murmured through gritted teeth as he watched the other pull a knife on him.
He had not intended to get into a knife fight. His blaster was at home. After all, he just thought it would be a normal day at work before he decided to go after this guy.
After a bit of back and forth, no one able to strike the other, the man, who was much bigger and stronger than Tohru, aimed low and grabbed him by the legs. His knees buckled, and he couldn't do anything about being picked up and slammed on the bed, but he managed to maintain his grip on his own weapon and take a slash at the other's dominant arm. The man dropped his knife beside Tohru's head and swung around his knee to pin the hand Tohru was holding his knife in while he picked it back up.
Tohru tried to pull his arm back up but couldn't. He violently jerked his head to the side and grabbed his opponent's knife in his teeth, slashing at his hand as he grabbed for the weapon. The man's knee lifted just enough for Tohru to move his wrist and jab the knife into his leg. With his other hand, Tohru pushed up and grabbed the knife from his mouth when he had the opportunity, and gave a heavy slash towards the other's neck. Blood sprayed across Tohru's face.
He collapsed almost immediately on top of Tohru, almost dead, if not dead already. Tohru scoffed in distaste at the contact with this corpse, the blood all over him… It was a little more than he'd thought he'd have to go through this time.
Tohru rolled the body off of himself and thought about how he was going to come home like this. It wasn't something he wanted to explain to Davin.
(ahsgsggd Davin like "what the fuck what the fuck–")
Davin eventually changed into his pajamas, curling up on the bed to read. He figured Tohru would be home eventually.
(Yeah, no, my boy has a kinda fucked up streak, it's fine)
Davin went to the sink, washing the blood off his hands and face and trying to collect himself a bit. First, he placed a call to the local bounty agency. Then, he messaged Davin.
Some guys were taking forever to leave when we were closing. I'll be home late.
Hopefully that would be enough to cover him.
While he waited for an agent to arrive, he stepped in the shower and washed the rest of the blood off his body. Luckily, he had a jacket to pull over his shirt, and would be able to wash his clothes at home.
It was less than half an hour before someone god there, and he was barely out of the shower. He'd just put his clothes on. His hair was tied back and damp.
There was little exchange between the two. He took his payment and left the agent to start cleanup and remove the body.
Then, Tohru started walking home. Luckily, he wasn't really injured. A couple of bruises from where he'd been slammed into the wall, but that was it.
(oof)
Davin nodded a little, messaging Tohru back.
That's fine. I might be asleep when you get back, but don't worry about waking me up.
He read for a little longer, then turned off his device and lay down, closing his eyes. He was asleep within ten minutes.
(Trust me, I'd probably react the same as Davin lmao)
Tohru came in very late. He was exhausted, but a good bit richer. Yet, that wasn't something he was going to tell Davin.
The bounty hunter tried to be quiet as he came into the apartment. He went into the bathroom and got undressed. After this, he tried to wash the blood from his shirt with a bit of detergent. It wouldn't have been the first time he had to do this, so he was able to do it pretty easily.
After that, he changed into his pajamas and laid down next to Davin.
(lol yeah)
(Also gjdhdhdhd should we have them wake up accidentally cuddling? Bc that's like. My favorite trope lmao)
Davin woke up a little when he heard Tohru moving around, but didn't really move, just drifting back to sleep, still curled on his side on the bed. He couldn't lay comfortably on his back, because of his tail and horns, so he usually lay on his side or on his stomach.
(Oh, yesss. I'm totally here for accidental fluffy moments.)
Tohru didn't notice that he'd woken Davin up. Much to his surprise, too, he drifted right to sleep. Today had wiped him out. Of course regular work- but then the fight, the adrenaline- that was a change of pace from the last few days for sure.
Strangely, Tohru was able to sleep more soundly than he had all week.
(:D perfect)
Davin shifted around a little in his sleep, but didn't awaken.
Tohru slept soundly through a dreamless night. Though comfortable, he found himself a little cold during the night and gravitated closer to Davin for his warmth. He was fully unaware of this, but it definitely made it easier for him to rest well.
Davin himself eventually snuggled closer to Tohru, his tail coming up to wrap around Tohru a little bit in a way he would have been very embarrassed to realize.
Tohru, unaware, accepted the gentle embrace. He managed to sleep soundly and fall still the rest of the night.
Davin continued to sleep, snuggled close to Tohru peacefully.
The next morning, Tohru started to wake up slowly. He didn't notice what was happening at first. It felt so natural to him.
And when he did finally register that Davin was holding him close, he couldn’t bring himself to move; it was far too comfortable.
