“Finger crossed,” Nick added. “If everything goes right tomorrow, then maybe we can make a difference.” He shot Cas a quick smile.
Cas smiled back, blushing a bit more and wishing he wasn't so god damn pale. "Like I said, be as rough as you need to be to make it seem authentic, but preferably don't break my arm or anything."
“I don’t think I could if I tried,” Nick replied. He probably looked like he could beat Cas up, but he hated any kind of fighting and hurting anyone. He was somewhat strong, but terrible in any kind of hand-to-hand combat.
"Well, try to not accidentally break my arm?" Cas shrugged. "I wouldn't know for sure, but I'm guessing I'm a bit fragile."
Nick shrugged. Cas did look a little fragile. “Okay, I’ll do my best. I just hope they believe us. I’m not a great actor.”
(Wanna time skip?)
"Thanks… I'd say I'll try not to hurt you, but I'm pretty sure I can't." Cas stood up. "See you tomorrow?"
(sure, i have to go for a bit now tho so i’ll reply later)
(Okay)
The next day Nick had snuck out again, wandering the city the same way as he had the day before. He was anxious about the banquet tonight, doubly so since his father wanted him to meet another princess there, which he almost never enjoyed. He hoped that Cas had snuck out as well so Nick could talk to him. He had already known him a day but liked his company far more than anyone else’s their age.
Cas had snuck out, of course. It was far too easy to do for him to not. He'd climbed up in a tree and was sitting there when he saw Nick pass by. "Hey! Nick!" He tossed an acorn at him to get his attention.
Nick rubbed his head where the acorn had hit it. “Ah, Prince Casper,” he exclaimed, a smile lighting up his face. “Why are you in a tree?”
"Felt like climbing a tree. I don't get to do it much at home." Cas looked down at Nick from where he was. "Only problem is, I'm not quite sure how to get out of the tree."
Nick rolled his eyes. “Why am I not surprised? Okay, well, maybe try and get down the way you came up? I might be able to catch you if you fall.” He looked light, so it probably wouldn’t be awful, but they could always both go crashing to the ground.
"Alright, alright, I'm coming…" Cas tried to crouch on the branch so he could get down easier, but he just slipped and slammed his chest against the branch, though he managed to hold on. "Ow…" He looked down again. He wasn't really too high up, but it still made him a bit anxious. He reached one foot down to step on the branch below him.
Nick winced as Cas smacked into the branch. “C’mon you can do it,” he coaxed. “If you need support you can use me.” He really didn’t want Cas to get hurt.
Cas managed to get one foot on the branch below him, but the other missed. The leg on the branch caught him briefly before just basically forcing him to flip and fall down.
Nick tried his best to catch him, anticipating where he would fall. He ended up squeezing his eyes shut, but he felt Cas’s weight land on him and he almost fell over, opening his eyes to see he had actually caught Cas. Holy shit I just did that! “See? I said I’d catch you,” he said, though he was clearly surprised he had. His arms hurt, but it was worth it.
"Mhmm…" Cas held his head with one hand, looking rather dizzy. He honestly hardly weighed anything; easily less than a hundred pounds. At five feet tall and the body of a stick, he couldn't be expected to be very heavy.
“Are you okay? Please tell me that you’re not seriously injured,” Nick said, worried, as he looked over Cas for anything serious. Nick would feel awful if he was hurt, not to mention it would be a doozy explaining that to his father.
"Yeah… m'fine. Just dizzy." Cas smiled weakly, lowering his hand. "Thanks for catching me." He glanced down at the ground from Nick's arms.
Nick nodded. “Yeah, of course. Can you stand?” Cas seemed okay for the most part, just a bit dazed.
"Probably, yeah." Cas hopped down to the ground and inadvertently gripped Nick's hand to stabilize himself.
Nick studied Cas, still slightly concerned about him. “Are feeling better?” he asked slowly. He then realized that they were holding hands and he blushed. Was it bad that he sort of didn’t want to let go?
"Mhmm… I think I'm good." Cas didn't seem to notice they were holding hands, but he actually did. He just hoped it would be less awkward if he didn't draw attention to it. Despite his fake nonchalance, he couldn't keep a faint pink tint from rising to his cheeks.
