"A little bit, yeah…" Cas stared down at the table, trying to force his blush down.
"A little bit, yeah…" Cas stared down at the table, trying to force his blush down.
“Sorry, I can be pretty dense sometimes,” Nick admitted. “Anyway, I’ve never met someone else like me before! Someone who’s a prince, I mean. This is awesome and quite refreshing, really!”
"Y-Yeah… um…" Cas was quiet for a second. "Please don't tell my father. He'd kill me."
“Okay, I’m not that dense,” Nick replied. “Obviously I’m not going to tell. I haven’t even told Jane, and I actually like her. She tends to be a bit of blabbermouth. In fact, I think she likes princesses more than I ever will.” He paused for a moment. “Sorry, I tend to get all ramble-y when I’m nervous.”
"That's fine…" Cas folded his hands in his lap. "It's just… my father's already not the kindest man, and this kind of information could make him so much worse. I can't risk him finding out."
“Hey, you can trust me,” Nick said, looking into his eyes. “I wouldn’t betray you like that, and anyone who does will have to go through me first.”
Cas nodded nervously, the gold flecks in his eyes catching the light for a moment. "Th-Thanks… um… it really means a lot."
Nick smiled, blushing, though it was hard to tell with his dark skin, something he was grateful for. “Of course.” Before he could say anything else, Jane cut in. She hadn’t heard the previous conversation since it was clear she had literally just stopped talking to King Darius.
“Hey Nick, are you talking to the Ristallican prince? He looks nice, not like how dad described him. Oh hi I’m Jane by the way. Pleased to make your acquaintance,” she said excitedly.
Nick sighed. He supposed Jane had gotten bored of talking to their father and decided to try and lean over Nick to talk to Prince Casper, despite the siblings being told that he was basically Satan incarnate (but it clearly wasn’t true). Then again, Jane had a habit of not believing anything she heard about the other kingdoms.
"Oh! Um… hi, I'm Casper, but I guess you know that already." He shook her hand politely, glancing over at Nick for help. "It's nice to meet you too."
Nick tried not to snicker at Casper’s expression. “He’s pretty cool, actually,” Nick added to Jane.
“Oh really? Are you competing in the tournament? Nick is but he’s really a softie so he doesn’t like it—“
“Jane!” he complained. “I am not.”
“Mhmm. So anyway, I’m not old enough because I’m only fourteen. And Nick likes to think he’s so tough.”
“Jane!”
“Okay, okay.” She rolled her eyes.
Cas laughed a bit. "Yeah, I'm required to participate. I don't really expect to do too well, considering I'm the size of a twelve year old and all…"
“Yeah, I guess,” Jane admitted. “But you have awesome ice powers! That’s so cool! Get it? Cool? I am so sick of only talking to old people.” Ahh, so that’s why she wouldn’t shut up. Jane was bored. Nick didn’t know what to do now, so he just decided to let her ramble on. Clearly rambling was a family trait.
Cas caught on as well and let Jane talk at him, occasionally nodding or making small noises of affirmation whenever it seemed necessary. It was a tad overwhelming, but he figured he'd just get over it pretty soon.
Eventually, Jane got tired of of this. “Well, it was nice talking to you,” she chirped.
She’s finally done, Nick thought, slightly guilty.

"Alright, goodbye…" Cas waved tiredly, glancing back over at Nick. "She seems to enjoy talking." He said simply once Jane was out of earshot.
Nick laughed. “That’s an understatement,” he responded. “Social gatherings are like food to her. She loves them. But she’s sweet, in her own way.”
"I don't mind chatting, but these meetings are dull as hell." Cas sighed, leaning his head on one hand with his elbow on the table.
Nick nodded his agreement. “Tell me about it. And they won’t even talk about important stuff.”
"Mhmm. We'll have to try and bring it up next time." He thought for a moment. "Oh, aren't we meeting up at the cafe soon?"
“Yeah, I think we agreed upon two hours after this?” Nick added. “We can discuss or strategy then. Or finalize it or whatever.”
"Yep. Maybe… maybe we could like, start fighting over something dumb while we're in here to try and show how stupid the wars are?" Cas suggested.
“Hmm, that makes sense,” Nick replied. “And if we’re fighting, they’ll have to notice us. We could argue about clothes? Or something?”
"Or just, like, 'My kingdom's better than yours!' or something. I dunno, we can discuss it more at the cafe." Cas yawned, rubbing one of his eyes with one thumb. "You can pin me to the wall or something."
Nick’s face heated up at that thought. “Uh, yeah, we can talk about it later,” he agreed, now that that image was in his head. “I can’t wait until this dinner is over.”
(time skip?)
(Yep)
Cas snuck out like he had before, his hair still nest and styled since he hadn't had any time to shower. He made it to the cafe and sat down at a table for two.
