@Oakiin

!!OPEN AGAIN!! OPEN UNTIL APRIL 1st!!

Fill out a quick form and then after a set amount of time, I'll place people together based off compatibility!
If anyone has any questions about what a writing buddy is, please feel free to ask.
!!Anyone can join! Not just people who voted on the poll!!

Rules

  • Realize that our writing buddy is human, and has obligations outside of Notebook. However you decide to work together, try to avoid placing a huge workload on your pal!
  • As just stated, you and your buddy will be responsible for deciding how you want to work together. You can work this out yourselves. Here are some suggestions, though, for anybody who is new/needs ideas:
    • Send each other bits of your stories and critique them as you write. Personally, I like to save this sort of writing buddyhood for when I'm no longer working on my first draft, since it can be hard to critique a first draft, but if you like it, go for it. You are each other's drill sergeants, pushing each other as hard as you can, because you know, your buddy can do better. You expect the best out of each other, and a little tough love goes a long way. You gotta buckle up and bear down, no excuses. Now is the time you write that book, and write it well. Don't take "good enough" for an answer! Your writing buddy's expecting more from you!
    • You could also go the teamwork route. Here you and your buddy check in frequently, set goals with each other, and set time aside to read each other's stuff and cheer each other on. This one's less about critiquing and better for first drafts, in my opinion. You can write together, read together, talk together, word count race each other, and try to out pace each other. Share tips tricks, hacks, music, whatever you want. You two are in a little boat together in the middle of Discouragement Ocean, and you've gotta row it back to Consistent Writer's Island by working together. You are now joined at the hip, until you reach your goals.
    • Have a tried and tested writing buddy style already? Cool, great, cool, great. Go for it man. Whatever floats your boat. Just make sure your buddy agrees!
  • You get out what you put in. Don't expect your buddy to critique your story for paragraphs and paragraphs while you only say a thing or two about theirs. Either discuss this stuff before hand, or try to match what your buddy's doing.
  • If you do have trouble with your buddy, or just find the matchmaker machine messed up and you two aren't a good pair, never fear, come back and we'll get you re-assigned. There's a lot of fish in the sea, so don't worry at all.
  • Similarly, any arguments should be fielded back to this thread, so you can get help sorting it out. Don't give up right away though! Try to be reasonable and polite to your buddy, and expect the same from them. Keep your cool, and we'll get you sorted out.
  • If you need to back out, cut your buddy off from your hip, dive overboard or go AFK AWOL, LET YOUR BUD KNOW!!! That way they know to wait for you, or find a new pal. This is a SUPER low commitment deal, so no one's going to hold it against you if you've gotta back out! Communication is key, y'all.
  • On that vein, try to at least be active for your buddy at a minimum of what you two have agreed on. If you're critiquing each other once a week, try to show up. If your talking every day, try to show up. If you can't, try to give warning and reschedule if you can. If you have to go without any warning, be prepared with your apology and excuses, because we're taking this sucker to court. Not really, but do apologize.

Notebook nickname: Sunflower
Talk a little bit about your project:
- What genre is it? Comedy, action
- What stage are you? First Draft
- SFW or NSFW? SFW
- Other? It's a trilogy, and I'm in the middle of the last book.
What are your favorite genres? Comedy, adventure, fantasy, horror, dystopian, surrealism
What are your least favorite genres? Romance
Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW? Unwilling
What's your writing buddy style? I prefer the second listed style, where we work as a team
How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc: I'm a 1-2 paragraph type of gal
Anything you hate in a book? I hate op characters, smart-alec characters who are always right, and a lack of paragraph breaks
Anything you love? I love tropes and cliches brought to a new life, humor, and characters that break stereotypes, and surrealism
Where do you want to talk to your buddy? (you can say more than one place, e.g. discord, notebook pms, etc.) Discord or a thread here on nb
How often do you want to be active with your buddy? I'd like a couple activities together per week, plus normal chatting once a day
Other? I'm not actually going to be doing this, this is just an example. But if I was, I'd try to give as much info about myself as possible, to make it easier on myself to match people together.

@Nie-Huaisang-is-lost-in-the-stars group

Notebook nickname: Nie

Talk a little bit about your project:

- What genre is it? Supernatural romance-ish. Not very romantic, but it's in there.
- What stage are you? First draft
- SFW or NSFW? SFW
- Other? Possibly triggering content such as psychological abuse, mentions of self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.
What are your favorite genres? Romance, realistic fiction, supernatural romances, rom-com, you get the gest of it. But I pretty much write anything. Including sci-fi and fantasy.

What are your least favorite genres? Historical fiction, mystery

Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW? I mean, I'm okay with it, but it's not my favourite thing to read.
What's your writing buddy style? The first listed
How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc: I typically write 1-2 paragraphs unless there is a lot or only a little to be said.
Anything you hate in a book? OP characters, cliche romance dynamics (i.e. "bad boy" x good girl or nerd X jock), the power of friendship giving the MC magical powers (just no), jerks with no reason, boring introductions(though I can push through them if I think the story's worth it), and so much more.

Anything you love? When the villains win, having a tragedy befall at the end of the story, when there is a powerful message and the book is relatable, lgbtq+ characters, character development, the story making me cry, having the story keeping me guess (meaning I can't just go: "well [this] is going to happen next").

Where do you want to talk to your buddy? Notebook PMs

How often do you want to be active with your buddy? Normal chat at least once a day is fine, although I'm not stressin' 'bout it. I know people have lives. And activities together at least three times a week is great.

Other? I like writing sad stories and, if you couldn't have guessed, making tragedies/plot twists happen at the end of the story. Most often causing it to lead into a new story or leave the reader emotional. There's a lot that I can't think of rn, but it's in there somewhere.

@Kamea public

Notebook nickname: G-Money
Talk a little bit about your project:

  • What genre is it? Fantasy, maybe romance idk, maybe action
  • What stage are you? (First draft, re-write, editing, etc) First draft
  • SFW or NSFW? SFW
  • Other? I have the basic plot, but I am just starting the book.

What are your favorite genres? Romance I guess, kinda action, drama

What are your least favorite genres? Fantasy, dystopian

Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW? Always ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

What's your writing buddy style? I don’t care, I guess the second one listed is alright.

How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc: 1/2-1 paragraph, maybe more if I’m in a good mood

Anything you hate in a book? Straight romance (don’t @ me), super peppy/positive characters

Anything you love? Gay, antagonistic characters, cliffhangers

Where do you want to talk to your buddy? (you can say more than one place, e.g. discord, notebook pms, etc.) Discord is preferred, but will talk on any platform necessary

How often do you want to be active with your buddy? At least once or twice a week

Other? The drafts are always a bit rough because I typically am writing through writer’s block.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

Notebook nickname: Dusty

  • Talk a little bit about your project:
    -What genre is it? Urban fantasy I guess
    -What stage are you? (First draft, re-write, editing, etc) I'm rebooting the whole story after trying and failing to improve it for at least five years T.T Sooo it's really sketchy rn
    -SFW or NSFW? SFW
    -Other? I'm actually writing it with the intention of turning it into a webcomic someday, rather than publishing it as a written manuscript.
  • What are your favorite genres? Urban fantasy, dystopian, dystopian fantasy, sci-fi, any of those mixed with comedy.
  • What are your least favorite genres? Horror, most romance, plain realistic fiction, teen drama/sports fiction.
  • Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW? Unwilling
    What's your writing buddy style? The second style, very relaxed and casual.
  • How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc: I will try to be somewhat in-depth, maybe a paragraph or two.
  • Anything you hate in a book? Contrived plot twists or romances, too much repetition of a word or phrase, inconsistency, crude or mean humor.
  • Anything you love? Soft, loving relationships built on friendship, found-family tropes, scientifically believable magic/fantasy, deep worldbuilding, surreal or dreamy writing styles, settings with a Northern European OR Midwest American flavor.
  • Where do you want to talk to your buddy? (you can say more than one place, e.g. discord, notebook pms, etc.) Notebook pms are fine, it's the site I'm most active on.
  • How often do you want to be active with your buddy? My schedule is tight but messy, so I can't promise a lengthy interaction more than once a week. But I will definitely be able to at least check in with them every day.
  • Other? I haven't seriously worked on any of my writing projects in months, and I'm really out of practice. Mostly I'm just looking for a pal to keep me company and help me stay motivated while I write, and any feedback is welcome, but less important to me.

@Starfast group

Notebook nickname: Starfast
Talk a little bit about your project:

  • What genre is it? Fantasy
  • What stage are you? Editing the first draft
  • SFW or NSFW? SFW
  • Other? It's the first of 3 books. I'm currently in the process of writing book 2.

What are your favorite genres? Fantasy and its sub-genres (Urban fantasy, magical realism), Sci-fi
What are your least favorite genres? Romance and contemporary. Not huge on historical fiction either
Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW? I'm ok with gore, but for any kind of sexual stuff I'd rather not.
What's your writing buddy style? Either the first or the second.
How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc: I guess it would depend on how much I have to say? I'll try to aim for at least a paragraph though.
Anything you hate in a book? LOVE. TRIANGLES. Sad endings (bittersweet is fine though), lots of character deaths.
Anything you love? Found family, little or no romance/ emphasis on platonic relationships. Really in depth world building, any kind of outlawed/ dangerous magic.
Where do you want to talk to your buddy? Notebook PMs
How often do you want to be active with your buddy? Maybe a couple times per week.
Other: I don't think there's really anything? But I guess I'll just pre-emptively let you know that I'm going to be away from the 16th-29th so I won't be able to stay in touch with my writing buddy during that time.

@Reblod flag

Notebook nickname: Reblod or Ran sometimes
Talk a little bit about your project:
- What genre is it? High fantasy, adventure, action with maybe a dash of drama sometimes
- What stage are you? Oh lordy who knows. Re-write, worldbuilding, character development all at the same time
- SFW or NSFW? Not NSFW but definitely has mature themes
- Other? My main focus is the world at the moment and there are many stories in it at different times in history. The one I'm currently writing is a smaller, more character-focused story that consists of only one book. only at the start hehe
What are your favorite genres? Anything fantasy, sci-fi sometimes
What are your least favorite genres? Not sure…heavy romance and most modern/normal settings I suppose
Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW? Doesn't bother me
What's your writing buddy style? The second one listed sounds like a lot of fun although I can get a bit analytical sometimes so maybe a bit of both the first and second
How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc: I tend to get really in-depth in critiques maybe a little too much so you can expect anything from a couple of paragraphs to a page
Anything you hate in a book? Overused tropes done badly
Anything you love? Overused tropes done well. also magic and high fantasy..technology sometimes too
Where do you want to talk to your buddy? Discord is always prefered because I'm not a huge fan of notebook forums or dms but if they don't have discord or don't want it dms is fine
How often do you want to be active with your buddy? At least five times a week but I'm really scatterbrained so I'm being lenient there. Hopefully at least once every couple of days. Edit: thinking about this again for updates on writing and stuff I'd say a couple times a week
Other? I'm really forgetful and get distracted easily so forgive me if i randomly disappear sometimes

@saor_illust school

Notebook nickname: Izzy. I've been called Dizzy before, but not on Notebook.

Talk a little bit about your project:

  • What genre is it? Fantasy

  • What stage are you? (First draft, re-write, editing, etc) Definitely first draft aha.

  • SFW or NSFW? SFW please

  • Other? this story has been going on for so long aha. writer's block, tho so…

What are your favorite genres? basically anything fiction, though i don't really like realistic fiction that much

What are your least favorite genres? non-fiction aha

Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW? I'll read NSFW, but I'd prefer not to.

What's your writing buddy style? Casual and relaxed.

How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc: Maybe a couple sentences to a paragraph, a couple paragraphs if I really feel like there's a lot to critique.

Anything you hate in a book? Honestly, I don't really like books that don't seem to have much of a plot at the beginning.

Anything you love? In books? Romance. And plots that make me cry. Good character development. And a good dystopian book is really nice to read.

Where do you want to talk to your buddy? (you can say more than one place, e.g. discord, notebook pms, etc.) I'll be willing to talk on most platforms. However, I only have Discord, Instagram, and Notebook. I'm not too active on Discord, although I'll check in on Discord usually like once a day to check pings.

How often do you want to be active with your buddy? Depends. Maybe once or twice a week? I'm considering daily, but I can't always be on everyday, so let's just go with once or twice a week. Oh- and reading through other's templates to get a feel on what I should be writing, or examples, I realize that I'm usually available just to talk everyday, but for activities that require more thought, once or twice a week please.

Other? Nothing I can think of at the moment.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Notebook nickname: Ice
Talk a little bit about your project:

  • What genre is it? Fantasy, YA. Historical (ish), with pirates
  • What stage are you? Definitely first draft. I haven't even really…started it yet lmao
  • SFW or NSFW? Possibly. I am unsure yet. If there is, it won't be graphic
  • Other? Will most likely contain triggering content, such as abuse and self-harm. Again, still working on the plot so it's still up in the air as to what it contains

What are your favorite genres?

  • Fantasy and science fiction, and I absolutely love a good romance

What are your least favorite genres?

  • Westerns, horror/thriller (I'm okay with a murder mystery, but if your story is gonna give me nightmares, nuh uh

Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW?

  • I'm okay with it, so long as it isn't too graphic. If it's pretty much erotica, hard pass

What's your writing buddy style?

  • Casual, someone who's gonna bully me into actually writing :')

How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc:

  • Uh. No idea, really. I think it'll depend on my mood, and what I actually find that needs to be critiqued. Encouragement-wise…again, depends

Anything you hate in a book?

  • Cliched stereotypes, flat characters, out of character actions, forced drama. When things are used for the "shock factor", ie a murder, rape, fight, etc, that is only used to shock the readers. Or when the readers are forced to pity a character. Also rude bitch characters that have no reason to be rude bitches, and you're supposed to think they're oh-so-edgy and oh-so-cool, when really what you want to do is punch them in the face

Anything you love?

  • Real, 3D characters. Enemies-to-lovers. Forbidden magic. Badass heroines and soft bois.

Where do you want to talk to your buddy? (you can say more than one place, e.g. discord, notebook pms, etc.)

  • Notebook PMs

How often do you want to be active with your buddy?

  • I'm active almost every day, though I don't write every day. So. At least a few times a week, preferably.

Other?

  • N/A

@Oakiin

For anyone who doesn't have time to fill out the form, worry not! We can either extend the due date for you or put you in the next round if there is one <3 Don't stress and take you time!

@Pineapple_Princess eco

Notebook nickname: Pineapple Princess

Talk a little bit about your project: Its just something I started not thinking I would do much with it but I want to work on it more.

  • What genre is it? Adventure and fantasy?

  • What stage are you? (First draft, re-write, editing, etc) First Draft.

  • SFW or NSFW? SFW (at least currently).

  • Other? I'm still thinking through the whole plot.

What are your favourite genres? Anything really.

What are your least favourite genres? If I had to pick it would be Non-fiction.

Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW? Sure I see no qualms about it.

What's your writing buddy style? Causal? I'm not really sure yet.

How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc: If they want a paragraph then I can try my best but I'm better at sentences.

Anything you hate in a book? I'm not a huge fan of romance but I am always willing to read it :)

Anything you love? Good character design. A character that makes me want to read + get connected to.

Where do you want to talk to your buddy? (you can say more than one place, e.g. discord, notebook pms, etc.) I'm not on Notebook at all during the weekends. I use Discord a lot except for at school.

How often do you want to be active with your buddy? Maybe once a week? I'm kinda busy with things outside of school but my weekends are open.

Other? If I think of anything I'll let ya'll know.

@Oakiin

er, what do you mean by writing buddy?

If you still have questions, feel free to pm me about them! I'm happy to answer :)

But, a quick note to everybody I'm going to be gone until Saturday! If anyone has any questions or concerns, pm me, bc I will only be checking those, not unread threads!

InsertLifeHere

Notebook nickname: Insert works fine
Talk a little bit about your project:

  • What genre is it?
    Dystopian, what's a good book without a little drama ;)

  • What stage are you? (First draft, re-write, editing, etc)
    Kind of first draft?

  • SFW or NSFW?
    NSFW (Gore though, not really sexual stuff)

  • Other?
    A little disturbing towards the beginning for sure since their deaths will be slightly graphic.

What are your favorite genres?
Thriller, Horror, Dystopian, Fantasy, Romance depending on the relationship

What are your least favorite genres?
Some biographies and autobiographies tend to be a bore

Are you okay with or unwilling to read NSFW?
I have no problem with gore.
The dirty stuff makes me a little uncomfortable but I don't have anything against people who enjoy it, I just couldn't write it especially since I have the lack of experience needed

What's your writing buddy style?
Someone who can have fun with this

How much do you intend to type per critique/encouragement, etc:
My critique/encouragement might include 1-3 sentences

Anything you hate in a book?
Stalker type relationships or crazy obsessions consisting of scenarios such where the girl just wakes up and her boyfriends standing outside her door with flowers. It's not cute, it's weird and scary.
TSUNDERES!!! I cannot stress how much I hate these types of people. I get it if you don't want to deny liking someone so they don't find out but insulting them as well just because you want to push them away?? Sometimes the bad boy type can be quite charming but with the stupid tsundere they're just made to be super annoying and obnoxious to the point I really wish they would drop dead.

Anything you love?
Suspense, it really hooks me to the book trying to figure out what's gonna happen next
Relatable characters make a book worth reading
Sarcastic humor for sure, or just good humor in general

Where do you want to talk to your buddy? (you can say more than one place, e.g. discord, notebook pms, etc.)
Notebook pms work just fine

How often do you want to be active with your buddy?
I can be on mostly during weekdays, might skip a day or two for a project or homework.

Other?
Big 'ol sorry beforehand. Writing is a hobby of mine, wouldn't say I'm good though so don't expect much.

@Oakiin

Okay guys, we end in 24 HOURS!!!
@RainyDayArtist, last chance to enter this round would be tonight or tomorrow, but if not, I'll work you into the next one as best as I can, if you're still interested!
Otherwise, right now we have an uneven number of writers, so I'm looking for a few more entries! Otherwise someone will be bumped to the next round.

@Oakiin

(No worries either way! If we end up bumping someone, I'll talk to them about it and figure you two out however suits you both best ^^ We'll make it work one way or another xDD)
