I would also like more books where the central relationship is a familial one instead of a romantic one, especially ones where the main character is a parent or an older sibling.

@HighPockets group

If you know any books a) court politics, b) antiheroes morally deprived main characters, c) smart main characters, and d) DEATH, please slide into my DM's. I need you in my life.

Cue Jynnie, announcing that her time has come

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black comes to mind, as well as Crier's War (sort of, Crier is baby but Ayla is more rough around the edges).

Yo @!that!lady!of!the!insomniacs!, where's your profile quote from? I feel like I've seen it before.

Oh heck I looked and now I have the same question

It's by Simone de Beauvoir! I found it on Goodreads, which makes up about 95% of my social life, too.

I'm currently on Goodreads kicking books off my TBR since it's so long lol

I'd like to see more multi-genre books that aren't just [genre] with romance. Like, is it just me or does a mystery in a futuristic cyberpunk setting with magic and fantasy creatures sound really freaking cool?

It's not just you. I'd read the hell out of that.

I'm up for any sort of representation! Especially muslim women that are not just defined by being muslim…that's just a personal thing haha. Also that good good LGBTQ and Ace rep! I'd love to see some Ace rep!!

Oh also! Main characters that are not blank slates and boring. I understand a lot of YA books do that to allow teens to insert themselves into the narrative, but man some of these MCs literally do not have any interests. Sorry Bella Swan i'm tearing you apart. I think MCs with a job or even an extracurricular like running a club or playing an instrument or even sports! Idk, just a thought?

Well forgive me for being contrary, but anyone who really practices a faith finds it central to their lives. I am a not very good Christian and I would be lying if I said it doesn't strongly influence every aspect of my life.

Also I would love some more ace rep. But like any good rep, I want it casual.

I really get that. And would you have any advice for a character that is very busy? I have no idea what she would do in her downtime since she rarely has any. But I think it's really important that I know.

P.S. Are you Saudi? I am a halfie so I'm exited to see others.

I appreciate the response to my post and I think you make an excellent point! Being muslim impacts a lot of aspects of my life, but its just one of the pieces of the proverbial puzzle. I guess what I mean is I'd love to see a hijabi that is also defined by their love of fashion or film or something? Or by how caring they are or maybe they make amazing puns and are super witty. I'm sure this is something people are doing, but I'm greedy and want moreee haha.

For a person that is really busy I'd say allow them to be overwhelmed. You're character is human and I feel like nowadays many of us are struggling with overwork, so I think showing a characters struggle between sacrificing doing things and their personal time/health could be impactful! Idk if that helps but I hope it does!

BTW I'm Pakistani haha. Hope you find another Saudi person tho :)

@Yamatsu

Characters that are book smart but not street smart and vice versa

Did you mean: Aristotle Jacques and Samuel Shafton

Did you mean: me

Oof… my protagonist.
Aurelius: "I'm a very good writer and can read books that many could never imagine reading. Also I'm an expert on dragon physiology and behavior."
Also Aurelius: "Man, this Cyrus guy looks really trustworthy, even though you literally just told me you know him and that he's a traitor maybe."

I want more Hufflepuff villains
Villains so thoroughly devoted to the cause that they would do just about anything, not for themselves but for it
Villains who look out for other villains, because if they die, that's one less person to kill off before getting to them
Idk I just want horrifyingly loyal villains
