She narrowed her eyes at him, nose wrinkling slightly in what very well might have been disgust. And, maybe to get back at that comment, she didn't follow. "Just a second, I have to grab something." She said, her pendant catching the light as she spun around, disappearing into another room. She returned a few moments later, a small notebook in hand and a pen tucked behind her ear, not bothering to put on shoes as she slipped out the door, shutting it behind her.
(…….i just realized that in all the RPs I'm in with you, my characters name ends with an "in/an/en" sound. Fml lol)
He waited for her at the door, then started walking again. "Come on." He said as he walked. He still looked so out of place in the palace. Still so colorless in a colorful place. A creature of the night in a place dedicated to the day. He led her through the winding hallways, and over to a tower. He started up the spiraling staircase without a word, expecting her to follow him.
((Lmao))
She rolled her eyes, following along behind him at a much slower pace than he was walking at. Pausing to peer out various windows as though that was much more important to her. When he started up the stairs to the [insert whatever the tower is for] tower, she hesitated at the bottom, frowning. "Why exactly are we going up here?"
"So I can seduce you by the light of the moon?" He said with a laugh. He shook his head. "So i can show you the moon and talk to you about the Night Court and it's traditions." He continued walking. "Do keep up, we have much to talk about and little tine to do so." He continued up the stairwell, vanishing from sight as he walked up. Only his footsteps were still audible.
"You better not try anything." She muttered to herself, once he was out of earshot. After a moment of thought, she shrugged, following him up the stairs. It might be a bad idea, but she was curious. And if he knew things, he was her best bet for getting those answers.
Jin chuckled softly as he emerged into the top of the beautiful tower. It was designed for viewing the sky, with three hundred and sixty degree windows. He went to the one they could see the moon out of, leaning against the sill as he waited for her to get up there. He sighed softly and raked a hand through his black waves.
Miyaki's eyes were on the sky before she had even fully stepped out into the room, a small smile ghosting across her lips, as she momentarily forgot who she was up there with. She hadn't been in this tower much, and definitely not in a while. She'd just been too busy, helping Aster as often as she could, and functioning essentially as Alina's advisor at other times. It had been one of her favorite places in the palace when she was younger though, and could get away from studying.
He turned as she came in. "Well. Nice to see you smiling already." He said. "Come here. I want to be able to talk without shouting across the room." He turned back to the sky, looking up at the moon. "Where would you like me to start?" He questioned. "With the court, the land, the common people?" He didn't look at her, keeping his eyes on the moon.
Her smile dropped at the order, and she rumbled to herself as she crossed the room, plopping down on the ground near him and crossing her just-a-bit-too-bare legs. "The common people." She answered immediately, glancing up at him for a moment before turning her gaze to the moon. She looked more perplexed than anything, like she was trying to figure out why he kept watching it.
"Okay." He replied, thinking for a moment. "Which sector? The poorest and lowest circle, or starting closest to nobility?" He glanced down at her for a moment, then away again, eyes flickering around the stars as he observed the constellations. He found comfort in the night sky; always had. He didn't know if it was simply for being one of the Night Fae, or if it had anything to do with his childhood.
"Start from the lowest, and work your way up?" She suggested, letting her hair down to re-put it up. The blue of her hair wasn't something she'd seen any other Fae with, and she found herself wonder if it was a color seen in Night Fae, or just a result of some genetic screw-up thanks to her blood. "I'll have to learn about the sectors I would end up in should I go with you, so might as well start with them first."
"Alright." He replied, thinking. "The…lowest Fae tend to be the one with the most…animal or plant like features. They may or may not be poor, but they usually are. Typically are servants, as well. Basically the less animal like the Fae, the higher they are." He looked up at the moon again, closing his eyes and letting the soft, silvery light bathe his skin.
She tilted her head, listening to him talk. Once he paused, she looked down at her notebook, jotting down what one could only assume were notes. "Is there a reason for that?" She asked, raising an eyebrow at him. Her eyes lingered on his skin, the glow caused by the moon odd and slightly…beautiful. That was the best word she had for that. "A reason the 'animal' like Fae are lower?"
He sighed, then shrugged. "Its been like that for as long as I've been alive, and far longer. Prejudice, maybe? I don't know." He shook his head. He opened his eyes and looked down at the ground, far below them. "The exception to this is the Arconians. They aren't really part of the Night Fae, per se, but they live in my territory. They are a warrior, nomadic race, that are often hired as mercenaries."
"I think I've read about them before." She mused to herself, voice more a murmur than anything. "They were mentioned in a book in the Grand Library." Like she was affirming the thought, almost talking to herself at this point. "What all can you tell me about them?" She asked, finally speaking to him instead of to herself.
"The…Arconians?" He echoed, surprised. "Well, they aren't technically part of the Night Court, though they are. They are and they aren't, if that makes sense. They owe me allegiance, but they don't have to pay taxes or report to me." He shrugged slightly.
"Minor sense." She said, tilting her head again and focusing on him. "Why do they owe you allegiance? And why not taxes then, since that seems exactly like something most leader would monopolize on? Do you know much of their culture, and how it differs from the general culture of most of your Fae?" Quite a few questions, and it seemed she wasn't thinking about slowing them down. He had found something that caught her interest, and once that happened, she tended to exhaust all efforts to learn as much as she possibly could.
"They owe me allegiance for living in my land, and for…other reasons that i will not now be sharing." Jin replied. "I don't tax them, because in time of war they will become the elite part of my army, and will bear the brunt of the fighting. As for culture…not really. Not that I care to speak of right now, anyway."
Miyaki huffed an almost disappointed sigh, making a face for a moment. "Right. You probably have some lesson plan in mind. Alright, let's get back to that then. Wouldn't want to waste your time more than I have to." She went back to writing in her notebook, doodling little arrows and vines and stars.
Jin blinked, and shook his head slightly. "Anyway…the nobility are, perhaps, the worst of the lot. My court is known as the Court of Dreams and Nightmares for a reason. Because while we are one of the most accepting of just about anything, my court is also the most likely to tear someone to shreds over absolutely nothing." He shrugged. "That's why strength is important."
"Nobility love using someone's flaws to rip them to pieces. That's a universal thing." Miyaki muttered, not bothering to note that down as she continued doodling. "So emotions are a no-go, and your Court is just a bit more ruthless than the Dawn Court. Got it."
Jin nodded. "Yes. He sajd simply. He thought for a moment. "What I wanted to talk to you about was the reason we of the Night Fae hold such a special spot in our minds and hearts, even our very beings, for the moon and the stars." He thought again, considering each word carefully. "You see…according to lore, a very long time ago the night sky was simply the blackish blue that it is now. No moon, and no stars. It is said that, using magic and her own lifeblood, one of the first High Ladies of the Night Court brought and created the moon, and the other stars slowly appeared. Whether or not this is true, I don't know. But it is still true that our blood reacts to the moon, that we feel the most at peace under a night sky."
Jin's mention of the stars and the moon drew Myaki's full attention once more, her eyes focused on him as he talked. There it was, an actual and genuine emotion. Everything he had shown her seemed fake or calculated or both, but talking about the night sky seemed to draw something a bit more real from him. "She made the stars, huh?" She mused, turning her gaze up to the sky.
Jin nodded. "According to lore. Like i said, i am not sure how true it is." He shrugged. "But supposedly it is why Night Fae blood reacts to the moon. Because we are reacting to the High Lady's lifeblood." He looked up at the moon again, tipping his head slightly and letting out a breath. He remembered well his own childhood, how he had found solace in the night sky.
"Still interesting to think about." Miyaki hummed, her eyes searching the stars for constellations and patterns, and whatever it was he seemed to find in it. And oddly enough, she could see that. The feeling of home in the stars. It was slightly disconcerting, but explained a few things.
Jin nodded. "Yes. It is also why many of us have shadow or darkness or night related abilities." He shrugged slightly, still looking up at the sky. One of his requests for his room had been that it have a window. It did, for which he was extremely thankful. It meant that if he woke up and needed to calm down for whatever reason, the window, and the night sky, were right there.
“Most of you.” Miyaki repeated softly, making a fist in her lap and releasing it with a small sigh, studying her fingers as though that could bring forth some magic. Even after finding she did belong, somewhat, she still wasn’t quite there. Destined to float on the outer edges.
"Yes." Jin replied simply. "There are many different forms this magic can take. Some can only create specific things with their abilities. Like wings of shadow. That is one of them. The only thing the Fae who has it can create from shadow are wings. Working wings, but still." He drummed his fingers for a moment, glancing down at her, then back up at the moon.
"It stills sounds cool." Miyaki said, returning to jotting down notes and then doodling, this time a pair of wings. Her page had more doodles than words on it at this point, but she had written down information she deemed important, so that was fine. "Better something than nothing at all, right?"
Jin shrugged. "Yes, that is probably true." He replied. He tapped his fingers against the railing for a moment, thinking. "What would you like me to tell you about?" He asked, glancing down at her for a moment, then back at the night sky with a soft sigh.
