“Listen, y’all can have fun with that, I’m just going to go collect my reward,” Guinevere said, sheathing the sword on her back and readjusting all of the items she was given. Judging by how she entered the forest, she kept a mental map to follow back to the specific place they entered. However, Arthur Gelder’s (that’s how you actually spell it) house was on the northern side of town. She pointed a finger in that general direction, more to remind herself where to go, and set off into the trees.
Danny seemed torn on who to follow. He wanted to go with both, but that was impossible. Unfortunately, he did not have to power to clone himself, at least, he didn't think so. He decided he was more welcome with Hosea and started to follow him, without giving any thought on what direction they were going. He also reached his hand out and grabbed his Cloak out of thin air, put it on, and then grabbed his Scythe out of thin air, just in case.
"Take care I guess," he mumbled back to Guinevere.
“You all do you I guess…” Asawin regarded as his wings flapped once before he took off again. He started to fly south; specifically towards the harbor. He made sure no one followed him as of right now as he was heading to the harbor for a personal reason.
Hosea glanced back to let Danny know that he knew Danny was coming with him. "So you're father is Death," he commented after a little bit of walking.
Danny walked a bit faster so he was beside Hosea and not behind him.
"I mean, yeah. That means his father was Death, and his father's father was Death, and his father's father's father was Death… etc. Although, I never knew he was Death until he ironically… died, and I became Death."
"So he's not around anymore then?" Hosea asked looking back at him in surprise. "Wow, I must really be getting old then," he mumbled. "Because I met him."
"Oh um, he technically died early. Death Bloods kind of just… disappear after their first son turns 12. I'm an only child." Danny looks up at Hosea excitedly. "How did you meet my dad? What was he like when you met him? Mom never really talks about it, and neither will God."
"Well, he and I never really got along. What with me being a healer and all. I kind of made his job difficult," Hosea looked forward, letting his hood hide his face. He wouldn't go into much detail. At this moment he could do without another enemy. "We met when I went to the underworld to get a certain flower to heal a friend of mine. And he didn't want me to get that flower. I talked him into letting me get it."
"Yeah, it's kind our job to keep the world of the living and the worlds of the dead in balance. God sends me on missions like banishing demons back to the underworld, guiding new or lost souls to be judged, etc. By taking someone's soul and putting it back into its body after he, she, or they have died and sent along to their afterlife, it messes with the system." Danny noticed Hosea's discomfort and quickly went to reassure him he wasn't going to turn him in to God or Satan. "I don't blame you for wanting to bring your friend back. If I had the chance to bring back my dad I would do it in a heartbeat."
"Well, my friend wasn't dead. They were dying, and I was going to heal them. Death didn't think that I should, because they were so close to being dead," Hosea explained. "And the only time I bring someone back from the dead is when I bring them back with CPR. Otherwise I let it be because it was ment to happen."
"Huh, maybe God foresaw something. I can ask God about it later." Danny still was young and didn't have lots of experience as Death yet, and he hadn't quite learned all there is. Maybe in the future he thought, he'll know everything like his dad. "So… what's the plan from here? "
"I don't plan that far ahead. But for the moment you're going to shut your mouth and get down. We've reached that group of people I'd mentioned earlier," Hosea dropped his voice, and crouched down. The sound of voices could be heard now.
Danny followed suit with haste. He dropped to the ground and for added effect turned invisible too. Then he went to listen in. "Who are they?" He whispered in the smallest of voices. "Also… why did we 'reach' them?" He whispered, realizing why they were on the ground.
"Because the best way to avoid someone is to be where they just left," Hosea whispered back. "They're magic hunters from the looks of it."
"Ah, but why don't we just circle behind them and not go straight towards them? Now we are closer to being discovered." Danny tried his best to not rustle the underbrush as he poked his head up to get a closer look. Invisibility has its perks, but he has learned it doesn't stop people from hearing you.
"That will make it easier for them to track us," Hosea suddenly spoke in his normal voice, turning to look at Danny. Something had surrounded them, it was a glassy substance, that seemed to be waving slightly.
"Whoa, was that you? I hope this is from you." Danny said, still whispering in shock. He stood up completely, rustling some of the grass around them and went to reach to touch the glassy substance. Instead of touching it he withdrew and looked at Hosea for an affirmative he could touch it, only to realize Hosea wouldn't be able to see him looking at them. "Can I touch it?" Danny says normally.
"I mean, you could, but you would only get frozen in time," Hosea shrugged. "Yes this is from me. Everything outside of this bubble is frozen in time. They don't even know that they've been frozen in time. This is what I like to call a time bubble."
"Cool," Danny says, turning himself visible again. "How many powers, tricks, and skills do you have anyway? You seem to be able to do a lot." Danny tried to peer around in the bubble without actually touching it to see the magic hunters. "Does that mean when you undo this time bubble thingy, they will be gone? Or it that not how it works?"
"All the questions in the world," Hosea sighed. He took a step back and the bubble moved with him. "Come on, I'll explain in a moment. I am the center of the bubble and it moves with me. I only have the power to manipulate time. And as I said, everything outside this bubble is frozen. So when I remove this time pocket they will still be there, but we won't be let's go. And as for other tricks and skills… I'm a healer, and I know how to talk. You tend to learn a little bit, when you've lived for over six centuries."
"Woah…" Danny said in awe. He quickly jogged to catch up with Hosea before he got pushed out of the bubble. "Six hundred years?? No wonder you knew my dad. In fact, depending on how long ago you met Death, it might have been my grandfather, my great-grandfather, my great-great-grandfather, my great-great-great-grandfather, or who knows how many greats!"
"Maybe," Hosea sounded a bit distracted. He moved with short, silent steps. "Six hundred, give or take a few decades. Where do you plan to go, after we fix this problem?"
"Maybe back to Heaven. God had saved us a house there and Mom prefers to live up there rather than our own, earthly house. I don't like to hang out up there too much because the angels aren't exactly cool with me. As Death, I have a lot of control over them, but I'm no God." His eyes wandered and he saw wildlife everywhere. It must be so much easier to birdwatch with powers like these he thought with a smirk. "What about you?"
"I don't know," Hosea answered. The glassy barrier around them slowly disappeared and everything returned to normal. "Like I said, I don't plan that far ahead. I usually make it up as I go along. I might start heading home soon though. I've been away for over a year."
