"But that isn't all you're thinking about, is it?"
Fuck, I'm just makin' this worse.

"No," she sighed. He needs to know.
"Then what?" he tried to prod her as gently as he could, hoping she wouldn't explode on him.
"Tori was killed," she blurted, her eyes full of pain as she recalled the memory. I need to explain my protectiveness.
"Tori is….?"
"My… ex."
"Oh." He wish he could've told her he knew, but it felt…wrong.
She swallowed her tears. "She was killed because of me. That's… that's why I'm so…" She swallowed again, unable to finish her thoughts.
"Worried?" He finished for her.
She pulled back and paced the dark room, running her fingers through her hair over and over again. "Over-protective, pushy… I just… I wanted you to know so that you knew what you're getting into." She closed her eyes, still suppressing tears. "I don't blame you if you want to walk out." She was silent for a bit. "I might as well have killed her myself," she whispered to herself, fingers tangled in her hair as she stood still.
He stood there, stunned for a moment. "If this is about me getting attacked, that wasn't your fault."
"But I can't just get rid of that feeling that it was, y'know?" She opened her eyes and looked to him. Her eyes were red with unshed tears. "I'll always have that feeling." She looked away again and whispered, "I'm sorry."
He moved closer to her, grabbing her hand. "There's nothing to be sorry for, Tess. You can't help the fact that my dad's trying to murder me."
"But I'm suffocating you with this." She gestured to nothing with her other hand. "You want to travel and wander around, but I just…." She bit her lip. "I'm scared of losing you too," she admitted, eyes cast down to the floor.
"Until you have your arm around my neck, you're not suffocating me. This is my choice to be here, good or bad, and I'mma stick with it until the world ends." He pulled her closer. "You're my world, Tess."
She wrapped her arms around him, breathing in his calming scent. "I ruined the night again," she muttered miserably, though her heart warmed at his words.
"No you didn't, George Micheal did."
She huffed a laugh.
He rubbed her back and smiled slightly, resting his chin on the top of her head.
She nuzzled his chest with a small smile. "I'm the oldest, so I should be the one comforting you."
"Ah, how the tables have turned."
She chuckled. "I love you," she whispered against his chest.
"I love you more," he said, kissing the top of her head.
She idly traced her fingers over his back, her mind going wild, but no longer worried or depressed. A small smile was settled along her lips.
He arched his back slightly, shivering. "Whatever you're doing to my back feels weird."
