Tess stood up, feeling excited again. "Cin's my friend. Anyway, here's my idea: Loopholes."
Tess stood up, feeling excited again. "Cin's my friend. Anyway, here's my idea: Loopholes."
"Loopholes?" Lacie questioned
“What about loopholes?” Tristan asked, finally speaking
Tess began inspecting the vents and any possible means of escape. "The rules say we can't try to leave, right? But they never said anything about roaming the facility."
“Good idea!” Tristan’s face lit up, full of excitement.
"T-that is true," Lacie inquired
Tess stopped at one vent in the ceiling. "If I can get ahold of my ear pieces…" she trailed off. "Anybody missing something they want with them?" She asked, still inspecting the vent.
“Yeah!” Tristan said looking angered, “My bronze knuckles and headphones!”
"Just my locket." Lacie felt her neck
She nodded, "Holler if you need anything else," then shot a small blast of fire at the vent, melting the bars covering the opening. She took a few steps back, took a running start, then jumped up and grabbed the edge, hauling herself up into the vent as if she's done it a thousand times.
Lacie tried mimicking what Tess had done.
"Wait!" Tristan stepped forward and peered down the hole, "Can I come with you?"
(It's on the ceiling btw)
Tess poked her head out of the hole. "You guys stay here, just in case that cat comes back. I'll be back in a jiffy."
(Oh oops)
Tristan looked rejected and muttered, "I wanted to go on a cool adventure…"
Tess sighed and stuck out an arm. "I suppose there's room for two trouble-makers up here. Wha'dya say? Wanna peek into the life of a thief and dirty street rat?"
"I already do that!" Tristan grinned happily and climbed up after taking her hand, "But yeah!"
"Follow me and stay close" she told the boy as she pulled him up. "Who knows who else is here."
"Yes, ma'am!" He followed her, barely making a sound.
The two silently crawled through the vents, Tessa keeping an ear and nose out for anything of interest–including their captors. Fortunately–or unfortunately, however you want to look at it–she found nothing. "Keep an eye out for a room that might have our stuff. They usually store them in boxes in offices."
"Okay," Tristan whispered back peering through the vent holes and smelling the air, searching for any sign of life or the smell of bronze metal.
Tessa paused next to an opening on the left, pressing herself against the vent wall on one side if the opening and signaling Tristan to do the same. People, she mouthed
Tristan nodded and push his body gently against the wall.
It was two men conversing.
Man 1: "You really think they'll pass the trials?"
Man 2: "Doesn't really matter either way. As long as we get some data, that's all we need from them. Honestly, I don't really care if they die or not."
Man 1: "Humph. I hope that little brat that calls herself the Golden Huntress gets cut off. Serves her right. She's the reason I took this job."
Man 2: "Don't get your panties in a twist. Data first, revenge later."
They walked out of the room, and Tess peered through the vent. There, on the table, was a set of ear pieces, a locket, headphones, and brass knuckles. She nodded at Tristan and shoved the opening open, catching it before it fell to the floor. "Careful," she warned as she hopped down. She opened her arms to catch the boy.
Tristan jumped down easily, "You're the Golden Huntress Lady right?" He asked as he reached for his brass knuckles and headphones.
"Yeah" She picked up her ear pieces, sighing happily when they attached to her skin directly behind her ears, hidden from view should you not know where to look. "He's not the only person seeking revenge against me."
