Miran takes a deep breath and starts scanning the room numbers. "Odd ones on the left…" He mutters, looking further down the hallway. And there he is. 'Kelvin' or something, standing there and frowning. "Uh… excuse me," Miran says, walking up to him. "I'm looking for room 103?"

@The-Magician group

Kai nodded his head and motioned for Miran to follow him. Well at least now he had an excuse to be in lesson. The classroom was near the end of the hallway, and as they got there, Kai could see that some of the other students were already sat down in their seats. He turned to Miran, gesturing for him to go first into the classroom and choose a seat.

@The-Magician group

Kai ignored the odd glance from the teacher as he made his way to the back of the classroom and sat at the desk next to Miran. If he sat next to the new kid, it would look like he was actually doing work.

@The-Magician group

He hesitated for a moment, rubbing the back of his blond head. After a couple of silent minutes, he mumbled. "I'm Kai Ashmore. It's nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you too, Kai." Miran nods. "That's a nice name." He opens his notebook and quickly makes a note. "Thanks again for leading me to the right classroom." Miran smiles at Kai, his grey-blue eyes sparkling. "Is everyone here this helpful, or did I just get lucky?"

@The-Magician group

A faint blush grew on Kai's cheeks, and he found himself smiling. He quickly averted his light turquoise eyes, focusing his attention on the front of the class. "I guess you got lucky."

Miran smiles. "I'm glad. You and Gracie have saved my life so far. I don't know what I would do without you." He looks towards the front of the class as well, running his hand through his dark hair absentmindedly.

"Oh. Well." Miran feels his face flush at having been caught. "I like to keep track of my enemies and allies." He pauses, thinking about what he would do next. "See?" He pushes the notebook towards Kai. On it is written 'Kai. Helped me find the math room. Nice. Quiet. Hopefully, friend.' Under that is written 'Gracie. Friendly. Helped me. Has a horse. Hopefully, friend.'

@The-Magician group

"You can cross out the 'hopefully' next to mine if you like." Kai shrugged, falling silent as the teacher approached him with the worksheet. She gave one to him, then slid one over to Miran.
"I expect Kai here will be able to help you with anything you need, being the clever boy he is." she frowned at Kai before handing the rest of the worksheets out to the other students.
"Just ignore her. I do." Kai waved his hand dismissively before staring at the worksheet.

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

"Okay." Miran crosses out the 'hopefully'. "So, I have a cool new friend now." He smiles at Kai, then looks down at the worksheet. "What is this?"

@The-Magician group

"I think it is a mini test." Kai huffed, leaning back in his chair. "A few of the teachers do them at the start of the year so they can track our progress. It never comes in the form of a test, but it's obvious that it is." he pushed the paper away from him with a smile. "I tend to just wing it."

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

"Great. I love tests." Miran glares at the paper. "Well, let's see if I remember what math is." He scans the problems, then starts working. "This is going to be a train wreck," Miran sings under his breath, glancing at Kai, then quickly looking back at the paper.

@The-Magician group

The problems on the test were as easy as ever, it took Kai only a second to answer each question. He dropped his pen onto the desk and leaned back in his chair. He glanced over at Miran and noticed he was hesitating. "Is everything okay?" he whispered.

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

"Oh, yeah. Not really. Math isn't my best subject." He bites his lip. "I'm sensing a very low grade in my future." Miran sighs and tries to concentrate on the problem, but he can't figure out what he's supposed to do with it.

@The-Magician group

"Which one are you stuck on?" Kai felt a little sympathy for Miran. He never used to understand maths either before being tutored by his mother. In all honesty, he still didn't understand maths, but he didn't really care about it either.

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

"Number 3." Miran blushed slightly. "Do you know how to do it?" He felt a bit embarrassed asking for help, but Kai seemed like he wouldn't judge. At least, Miran hoped he wouldn't.

@The-Magician group

Kai took out his pad of paper, opened it at the back page, and started showing Miran how to work out the question. "That one is one of the more difficult ones, there are going to be others in the class who do not understand it well either. Don't forget that it's okay not to know the answers to some of them, that's what the teacher is expecting after all." he slid the notepad in front of Miran. "Does that make more sense?"

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

"Yeah. Thank you." Miran looks at Kai and smiles. "I'm so glad I ran into you. Saving me from being late and helping me with math!" He opens his mouth, about to say something, then thinks better of it. "Thank you, again."

@The-Magician group

"You're welcome, I'm just glad to be of some use." He smiled back at Miran, feeling, for the first time, helpful. Then he paused, and frowned a little. "You looked like you were about to say something else, is everything alright?"

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

"Oh, no. It's nothing. Everything's fine." Miran smiles slightly, his cheeks warm. "So, uh, number 4 is the same as number 1, right? You just… do the thing?" He gestures vaguely at the paper.

@The-Magician group

"Yeah, you got this." Kai nodded his, then noticed the teacher glaring at him with a finger pressed to her lips. He fell silent and glanced over the rest of the children. A couple of them had finished the paper, while others were still trying to wrap their heads around the questions. Time was almost up.

Miran worked quietly, cursing math and all things related. Kai had helped him, but… it still wasn't fun. He looked up to ask Kai when the class ended- he really needed to get his hand on a bell schedule- but the teacher was glaring at everyone, and he decided not to anger them any further.

@The-Magician group

The teacher called for everyone to put their pencils down and hand in the worksheets. Kai managed to look at Miran's sheet before it was collected, he had done rather well considering he hadn't known what to do.
"I noticed that you finished very quickly, Kai." The teacher spoke, eyeing his sheet. "Are you sure about the answers you gave?"
"I'm sure." Kai's expression betrayed no emotion. The teacher nodded silently before taking his sheet. She turned to the class. "There are still a few minutes left of the lesson, you may talk among yourselves."

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

"Whew," Miran sighs, leaning back in his chair. "I'm so glad that's over." He looks at Kai. "Why's the teacher so… suspicious with you?"

@The-Magician group

"Well… I may have a habit of not turning up to lessons." Kai shrugged, ruffling his hair slightly. "It's not a big deal really, I just don't exactly have a reason to be in the lessons."

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

"Oh. That does explain it." Miran looks down at his desk. "If you don't mind me asking, why don't you have a reason to be here? I mean, you're great at math, from what I've seen." He looks up at Kai.
