"Hmm" Gracie thought. "It's always either Ms. Henry or Mr. Green, but I heard we're having a sub on the first day of school cause the teacher's sick. They're both nice, but Mr. Green is more strict."
"Hmm" Gracie thought. "It's always either Ms. Henry or Mr. Green, but I heard we're having a sub on the first day of school cause the teacher's sick. They're both nice, but Mr. Green is more strict."
"Okay. Thanks." Miran glances at the corner of the room again. Kids are starting to walk in, laughing and talking loudly. "So… where are you going to sit?"
"Mm, probably at the back, Etta's a big animal, y'know…" Gracie replied, taking note of the seating patterns. Sitting down in the nearest seat in the back row, she settled Etta down.
(Apologies, it was D&D night)
Miran nods and sits down in the seat next to Gracie. More kids file in and an adult that looks like a teacher walks in as well.
"That's understandable." Miran squints at the rest of the students. "So, is everyone here nice?"
(Hah nice!)
Rubbing the back of her neck nervously, she chuckled softly. "I… uh some of them really like to do jumpscares to me, I can't exactly bring Etta into areas like say the lunchroom…"
(Ah sorry!!!! Something came up with work, I hope it's not to late to join? If not then here's my first contribution.)
In the middle of the classroom, with his head and arms on the desk, Kai listened intently to the conversations of the other children in the room. There was a new voice however, one he hadn't heard before. He opened his eyes and turned to look at the person in the far corner next to the window. He stared at them for a few minutes before silently turning to the front of the room.
"So, they sneak up on your, uh, bad side, and scare you?" Miran looks around and notices someone staring at him. "Who does that?"
(Aaah that's totally fine! I understand that life does get in the way sometimes :) )
"So, are you ready for a full list of people to avoid and the nicer ones? Ok, let's go:
So first there's-
Here Gracie smiles, gesturing to a dark-haired boy across the room.
"Well then you see Amber is a double agent. She's with Lily's posse, though she is really nice to us."
"I see." Miran pulls a notebook from his backpack and scribbles down something. "Thanks for that in-depth report, Gracie!" He looks towards the person that was staring at him before. "Who's that?"
A quiet chuckle floated out from Kai's lips, still listening in on the conversation between Gracie and the new kid. He turned to look at them again, shaking his head, feigning disappointment. After turning back once again to his desk, he pulled out a pad of lined paper and flicked through the doodled on pages to a blank one. He took out a pencil from between the pages and began quietly sketching.
Miran stares at the kid in front of him for a few seconds, then frowns slightly and scribbles something else in his notebook.
"Aieeee I don't exactly remember eeeveryone's names… I think that's… uh Kalvin? No that's not right…" Gracie replied, a light blush appearing on her cheeks.
"Oh, that's okay." Miran looks at "Kalvin" again, then back at Gracie. "When does class usually start around here?"
Looking up at the clock, Gracie frowns. The clock said 10:58, but class should have started 8 minutes ago… "I'm going to go talk to the teacher, I'll be back," Gracie says, getting out of her seat.
"Right." Miran nods and makes a few more notes in his notebook, then looks around the room again.
After consulting with the teacher quietly, the teacher goes over to a stack of textbooks, and Gracie returns to her seat.
"What's going on?" Miran asks, looking at Gracie. "Is everything okay?"
"Class is starting late… it seems this guest teacher is new." Gracie replied, looking a bit worried.
"Oh. Is that bad?" Miran asks, noticing her worried expression.
"No, just that well, we won't be doing much today in this class at least," Gracie explained. She didn't like wasted class periods, she could always use that time to do something more productive.
"Oh, good. They probably can't give us homework, then, right?" Miran grins.
Gracie glances over at Miran. "Well, no, though we never get homework on the first day."
(Sorry, volleyball practice.)
"I'm liking this school. My old school gave homework on the first day." Miran shudders. "It was terrible. So… what are we going to do this period?"
(oof that's totally fine :D)
"I really don't know, I heard one of the older kids say that last time it was so chaotic and they felt bad for us second years. So I guess we just do… whatever?" Gracie answered, shrugging her shoulders.
"Huh." Miran frowns. "Well. This place is very different from my old school." He shrugs and opens his notebook to a page filled with little notes.
"Well, yeah. Unless the principal walks in, then in which case the sub will probably get scolded." Gracie remarks, nibbling on the back of the pen she had been holding. Shifting her grip on Etta's reins, she looked around.
"So… why is the sub not doing anything, anyways? Shouldn't the teacher have, I don't know, a plan for the sub or something?" Miran asks.
"It appears that, well, the teacher called in at the last moment sick," Gracie read off her phone, having pulled up the the-students-will-never-see-this log of the teachers and subs texts and call-transcriptions.
"Uh… how do you know that?" Miran looks at her phone. "What's that?"
