"It's not because I don't want to, I swear. But….things like that take time for me. Especially when it's gonna be my first time." He rubbed his face awkwardly.
"It's not because I don't want to, I swear. But….things like that take time for me. Especially when it's gonna be my first time." He rubbed his face awkwardly.
"I know. You're a lot more sensible than I am."
"I'm sorry," he said
"No, you're fine." She smiled at him. "Promise."
He smiled back, blushing slightly.
"At least it'll be with moi–at least I hope so–as opposed to some random druggie on the streets," she said, going back to playing with the fuzz.
"Hard to tell the difference these days," he said, scooting out of reach from her.
She jerked her head up at him. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nooooothing."
Her gaze darkened.
He giggled slightly, looking outside. Sunset. Perfect. He sprinted towards the balcony.
She watched him beneath lowered brows, then got up and went into the kitchen for some food.
He jumped over the railing with a smile, shifting into the Chinese dragon and circling the house slowly- well, slow for him.
She grabbed her cell and dialed a number. "Hey, mind sending up some casserole? Three. Thank you, Ali! Love ya!" She blew a kiss and hung up.
He hovered near the window in the kitchen hesitantly. "Are you going to attack me if I come back in?"
"Probably." She taped a piece of paper to the window, a written address facing Runner. "Go visit her if you don't want a street druggie."
"Oh, c'mon, it was a joke."
"I'm sure it was." She promptly went upstairs and into her room.
He groaned, not daring to walk inside. He simply landed on the roof and reverted to his human form, walking light as hell until he tripped on a stray shingle and slid back off, having to revert back to hi dragon self before he landed on his head. "Tess, c'mon, I don't even have a shirt."
She put on her headphones and sat at her chair, setting up her mic–ignoring him. She pulled up a recording program and searched through her playlist for a song.
He hovered for a moment at her window, then shook his head, landing on the street and turning into a human again, bare-foot, bare-back, and pretty pissed. She'll get mad at me over one joke? I mean, c'mon, what the hell? Lost in his thought, he bumped into someone on the street, stumbling slightly as the other got knocked down.
"Shit, my bad," he said, rubbing his head.
"Runner?" Lia asked, getting back to her feet. "How are you alright?
"Potion from my mom. Long story, but I'm fine."
"Why do you have no shirt on?" She asked, glancing down at his feet. "And no shoes."
"Ah, well, a single joke does that to a guy," He said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Well, come to my place, then. Safer than being out here."
He gives her a look. "I'm trying to not get maimed by my girlfriend."
"Well, it's getting maimed by her, or getting jumped by another crew of street ninjas."
They made eye contact for a moment and Lia looked away. God, his eyes are pretty.
He thought for a moment, frowning heavily. "….Alright, I guess."
"Then, c'mon," she said, turning around and walking towards an apartment complex. Runner followed, having a bad feeling in his gut.
Tess scrolled through all of her angry songs. Shit, I have a ton. She settled for 'The Mystic' by Adam Jensen instead, feeling like she needed it. She found the instrumental version and hit play.
She swayed to the music until she found her queue, then started to sing.
"Got a head full of spiders
And a heart that isn't here
In a room full of liars
All my demons reappear"
"Broken cigarettes and bullet holes
One more to the chest and I'm alone
Nothing gets me any higher
And nothing ever will"
Runner walked into the apartment after Lia, rubbing his arms together because the AC was kicking. It was incredibly small. More of a motel room than an apartment. It hat the bed on the far wall and the couch in front of a TV separated by a little half wall. Runner sat down on the couch and frowned, cursing himself internally for making the joke that got him kicked out.
The music picked up, and she was soaked into it, singing it with even more emotion.
"Tried to stay sober, tried to stay clean
Wake me when it's over, like a bad dream
Mama doesn't call, sister never writes
Bet ya they would laugh if I called to say goodbye"
She pretended to shoot her brains out with her fingers.
"No ones gonna worry, notice when I'm gone
They wouldn't know I'm missing
Til' they pull me out The Mystic"
"Hey, don't fret," Lia said, rubbing the top of his head as she walked past.
"Easy for you to say. You don't have to go home to a pissed off Tessie."
"Should you give it a night and see how she is tomorrow?"
"And go where? She'd beat my ass even worse if she heard about me sleeping in the streets after yesterday."
"What about my place?"
Runner looked up at her. "You're seriously just trying to get me killed."
She threw her hands up in frustration. "Then I don't fucking know, alright? I'm just trying to help."
