Avery clutched Atticus's hand. "You do too." He exclaimed, his face still a shade of red along with the tips of his ears. "I like your robes, they bring out your wings." He muttered nervously, never the best at giving or receiving compliments. This was not their first date, he didn't need to be so nervous, he reminded himself.
Atticus felt his wings flap at the compliment, happy at the attention. Atticus leaned forward, slightly pulling on Avery's hand to bring him closer before placing a soft kiss on Avery's cheek. He reluctantly pulled away when he heard the waiter call to them, saying a table was ready for the two of them.

Suddenly, all of the lights dimmed down, and in a poof of over dramatic pink dust, their host arrived, microphone in hand. His was in his late 50's with a completely bald head and bushy white eyebrows. He wore a suit not unlike Runner's, only the overcoat was a vibrant red that caught the eye of everyone in the room.
"Welcome, all you loverbirds!" he boomed, a huge smile on his face. "Now, I'm Tim, your host for tonight. I'm sure you are all very hungry, but we have one last thing before the food comes out. Who's game for some karaoke?"
There were scattered cheers and a roll of clapping, making Tim's smile grow. "Well, do we have any volunteers?"
The couples fell into a sudden silence, no one brave enough. Runner made eye contact with Tess, then stood up.
"Uh, hey, I'll give it a shot."
Avery gave a small, tinkling laugh, pulling Atticus to the table. "Let's eat? or should we talk more? It seems like I haven't seen you in ages." The Siren asked, sitting down in one of the seats. "I'm sorry I had to go back to Berntove (The place where most Siren's originate from, his species of sirens was wiped out but he still goes there every year.) for a bit." He apologized.

Completley accurate, Avery can dress up though… Sometimes, rarely.
Tessa clapped lightly for Runner. "Go, go, Runner! Let's see what you've got." She smiled encouragingly.
(ahhh Nothing More is a great band sorry that's like all I have to comment rn lmao)
Tim beckoned him forward. "And what song will you be singing today, Mr…?"
"It's Runner," he said as he weaved his way through the maze of tables. "And….huh. Haven't gotten this far."
That got a few laughs from the crowd.
"Well, choose quick!"
Runner stopped next to the host and spoke the first song that came to his head. "Jenny, by Nothing More."
"Oooo, some rock! Delightful!"
A stand was produced and the mic was fixed onto it. "Just give us a few moments to get the song prepared." And with that, Tim the Host was gone. Seconds afterward, the acoustic into to the song began. Runner put both hands on the microphone and closed his eyes to not have to look at anyone in the crowd and took a deep breath.
"A little sleep, a little slumber…"
His singing voice was so drastically different from his normal one that it shocked even himself. He softly made his way through the first verse, his feet anchored to the ground and his face twisted in concentration. Then, as the verse ended and the bridge began building up, he began nodding his head lightly.
"‘Cause I don't feel like I'm getting through to you
Let me paint this clear, life is short, my dear
See your mother here, her last painful year
I wish you only knew
She stuck around for you…"
Oh, shit, can I hit this note? sprinted across his head for a moment, but then everything faded as he pushed out
"MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST FALL!"
At that point, his worry faded, even as the second verse came along and the song took a more aggressive turn. No, he didn't dance or anything, but he became less statue-esque. Looked more comfortable. A small smile graced his lips when the breakdown hit, his whole body moving with the beat.
"I CAN'T stand to see you down
Strung out, off the wagon, and unwound
Steady, steady, Oh God, Jenny
I CAN'T bear to hear the sound
Of your body hitting the ground!"
Finally after one last chorus, the song ended with:
"I'LL BE WITH YOU THROUGH IT ALL!"
and Runner stood there, breathing heavily as sweat dripped down his forehead and onto his nose.
(Sorry about the book I just wrote, imao)
Avery gave a small, tinkling laugh, pulling Atticus to the table. "Let's eat? or should we talk more? It seems like I haven't seen you in ages." The Siren asked, sitting down in one of the seats. "I'm sorry I had to go back to Berntove (The place where most Siren's originate from, his species of sirens was wiped out but he still goes there every year.) for a bit." He apologized.
"Yeah, it's been a while. But, I'm glad you're back. How was your time there?" Atticus waved away the apology taking a seat on a stool so his wings could relax without getting pinched. No need to apologize for something I would do too… Heaven's Gates may be locked to me, but Berntove isn't to him. Atticus wasn't really aware of the karaoke until he heard a voice pop in. He shook his head but didn't turn around.
"It was pretty good, It seems I was the only one to go. You'd think that the other species would try to go there, but I digress. I prayed a bit and fixed up some of the ruins." He said, crossing his arms as he relaxed into the chair. "What did you do while I was away?" He asked, his head tilted a bit to the side as he asked.
Tessa beamed when Runner was done, clapping perhaps the loudest among the crowd. Pride swelled in her chest.
He coughed, a light blush settling on his face from the applauds. Tim once again appeared with florish, lightly taking the mic from Runner's hand. "Well….I can't say I expected that. I feel like I need to pay you," he paused for a moment. "But who really listens to their feelings, right?"
The crowd laughed as Runner began making his way back over to Tess, accepting all of the complements with a humble smile.
She stood with a huge smile and pulled him in a hug. "That was awesome! I'm so proud of you."
He hugged her back. "My throat hurts. Maybe screaming wasn't the best idea."
"You did great!" She grinned and winked. "Maybe we should do a duet sometime."
He rubbed his throat, wincing. "Not tonight, that's for sure." He was still grinning as Tim announced the food. Out came plates of spaghetti, pizza, hamburgers; anything you could want, they had. Runner's mouth salivated when his eyes came to rest on the pizza heading for their table.
Tess licked her lips greedily as she spotted and scented the food. "That. Smells. Delicious. Appetitoso. Wonder if they have any buffalo chicken."
A waiter walking by caught wind of what she said and stopped, his plate suddenly changing from a taco to a bowl of buffalo chicken dip with a bag of tortilla shells. "You were saying?" he said, setting it down in front of her. Runner was to busy chowing down on some pepperoni pizza to get protective.
Tessa looked up at him with a smile, "Why, thank you!" before digging in. She groaned when she tasted the dip. "Mmmmm. This is so goooood!"
Runner added an, "Mmmpht!" of agreement, suddenly realize how many people were looking at them Shit. He wiped some pepperoni sauce from his chin and attempted an apologetic grin.
Tessa paid the people no heed, gorging herself with no shame. She was used to being watched and criticized, and she learned how to deal with it while keeping her dignity.
