Witch
Always wears an old and weathered witch hat with a green stripe wrapped around its base. He inherited it from his late mother.
Closet usually consists of green tops. Brown loafers for shoes. Red handkerchief around neck.
Cheerful, bubbly, and energetic. He helps friends, strangers, and even the random homeless guy on the street. He doesn't have much to give, but being a witch allows him to come up with cunning solutions to real-life puzzles.
He often worries over his self-value and tries his hardest to please others due to regrets from his mother's death. He is also naïve in the way he sees people. Despite knowing the horrors of the world, he treats almost every person with the same respect, no matter how badly they see him. Though he does not take insults against him very well, he internalizes his feelings about them to maintain his happy aura.
Although Tyler won't ever retaliate ("He wouldn't hurt a fly even if it was venomous"), Harvey and Will don't have any qualms about violence. They'll inflict grievous injuries to anyone that tries to hurt Tyler in their vicinity. Do not test them.
He pulls down on the rim of his hat when he's anxious or afraid.
Afraid of death, yet he puts himself in harms way if he doesn't want to see his friends die. Besides his internal need to be as useful as possible, his role as the cheerful one in the group begins to take a huge toll on him as the rebellion develops into its latter stages.
He is also prone to keeping his burdens to himself. He is so used to keeping up his happy exterior that hardly anyone can tell when he is collapsing on the inside. He doesn't want to trouble people with things he believes he can handle.
Helping others eases the guilt he feels about his mother's death.
He is most known among his peers as a human calculator. To him, multi-variable calculus is a cakewalk.

College level - no degree
He graduated from Amaranth Magic High School and was accepted into Alkae University. He majored in mathematics until the incident at Harvey's place forced them to join the insurgency. In an alternate universe, he would've graduated with a Bachelor's degree in mathematics and found a job immediately.
Tyler inherited the appearance and kind personality of his dad, as well as the wits and magic of his mom. His two older siblings were first jealous of the attention he received at birth, but he quickly grew on them with his infectious joy. For the next four years they lived in a quiet suburban neighborhood. Mom went to work at the office, while Dad stayed at home to care for the kids, unable to find a good job as a Magicless.
On a Thursday morning, Tyler woke up early, earlier than usual for school. The whole house seemed to be asleep still. The four-year-old was unable to fall back sleep, but he came up with an idea. Why not use the opportunity to get another cookie from the jar atop the fridge? He crept downstairs in his pajamas, pushed a stool in front of the fridge, and reached up high as he could on little his tippy-toes. The jar was still too far away. Tyler stared at the countertop next to fridge and came up with another idea. He moved the stool, climbed onto the countertop, and nudged the cookie jar with his fingers
All was well, until the cookie jar fell.
His mom, who was getting ready for work behind the bathroom door, rushed downstairs when she heard the ceramic shatter. She quickly cleaned up the mess with a spell before checking on Tyler, and relaxed once she confirmed he was safe. She gave him a quick scolding, not too long because it was past her time when she was supposed to set off for work, and kissed him goodbye. She made a mental note that she and her husband needed have to talk with the child later.
Tyler's mom liked to drive. A witch could easily ride away from traffic on her broom, but Mom found a car to be much more comfortable during the cold winters and sweltering summers. Half a mile from home, she pulled into the first busy intersection on her way to work.
Maybe if Tyler hadn't gotten up that morning, chose to stay in bed, chose to get ready for school, or even chose to give up on getting a cookie, she would've been able to make it through the intersection before the morning rush came. Maybe if Mom had stayed behind and given her child a proper scolding, she wouldn't have been first in line when the light turned green. But alas, it was those events that played out in that exact length of time and led to a drunk driver crashing head first into Mom's car, right where she sat. She died on impact, just 36 years old.
In that single moment, everything fell apart. After paying for and attending the funeral, the family moved into a shoddy apartment because they could no longer afford to live in their house. Dad miraculously found a job at a factory, but the kids had to learn how to live on their own with him at work. As time went on, the money Mom left behind eventually disappeared, and Dad began struggling to put food on the table. The children lost their naivete in this new environment and began focusing on their studies in hopes of finding a job better than Dad's. They needed to make a better life for their family and help support each other, both financially and emotionally.
Although no one blamed Tyler for what happened, he faulted himself for Mom's death. It was his own selfishness that led it, he believed. He began to fear death, realizing how easily it could come to him and to everyone he knew and loved. He never wanted a tragedy like that to happen again. But his biggest mistake was never revealing this guilt to anyone he knew, carrying this burden all by himself, until it began to rot inside of him.
Witchcraft (Actually the ability to manipulate reality around the user, but no one in-universe has figured that out yet)
Light green sparks
"The true nature of witchcraft remains an enigma to researchers. All other forms of magic are based around a certain theme or type of tangible object, but witchcraft seemingly manipulates mana in its purest form. Witches are capable of spatial manipulation (i.e. teleportation), temporarily modifying performance values in organisms, redirecting and negating force, shooting lasers that disintegrate all matter they go through, and many other strange feats that go against existing laws of magic.
The strength of their magic is also linked to their relationships. The more passionate a witch’s love is toward one or more person, the more their magic grows.”
- Capable of teleporting two people at a time, himself included. Any more and someone will lose a limb.
- Mana barriers are capable of negating heavy amounts of force from physical objects, but are weak to spells.
"Ironically, it is said that a witch's naturally pacifistic nature also prevents them from drawing out their magic's full potential because they will refuse to practice offense or destructive spells. We strongly recommend against any attempts at reversing this nature as the full range of witchcraft and its abilities are unknown."
His family used to have a black dog named Umbra that died when Tyler was nine years old. More than a decade later, Tyler would learn how to call upon Umbra’s soul using their bond to make him his familiar. As a familiar, Umbra’s magical attribute is shadows.
