He was kidnapped by the Thenites around age 2, he knows he had a mother and father but he remembers almost nothing about them. at age 19 the thenites undergo a grueling procedure which involves scarification using a corrosive substance which can also have hallucinatory affects, sometimes the Glass god will reveal himself to initiates. Rothos was having doubts and fears before the ceremony but during it he saw the truth and in the throes of his trip basically managed to escape the compound. He wandered the woods for hours but naturally didn't get very far before he finally collaped from pain and blood loss, which is where Alga Lithe Wyspe found him
