Artan is a bit prejudice against political members because of their experience with COD members. They assume that if all the members of such a high ranking group can be evil and twisted, then that must be the way that other high-ranking folks are, without ever actually taking the time to get to know them.

Artan was born a female but they never quite felt that was right. Some days they felt more feminine and other days they felt more masculine. It wasn't until they were much older that they decided they wanted to be a little bit of both. They cut their hair short, a breakaway from the stereotypical 'elf with long hair.' They did feel much better that way and they also started asking everyone to thereon call them "they/them." The only member of their family who didn't quite seem to get this was their father who thought that they should have just been comfortable as a girl. He left pretty soon after that but Artan didn't care. They had the rest of their loving family.

When they were old enough, Artan went off on their own to become an active member of society. Their family had always been middle class so they didn't really expect to be much more than that. They switched from job to job, learning all sorts of different skills combined with the ones they already had. One day, while they were walking along the path that connects the Eastern Kingdom to Tarolynn, they witnessed someone that was on trouble and needed help. They immediately sprung into action and disposed of the petty bandits quickly. It seemed that hardly any of them actually knew how to use a dagger. Once that was over and done with, Artan checked to see how the person that got mugged was doing.

It was a man and he seemed to be in pretty good shape. He thanked Artan immediately for their deed and informed them that he was a member of The Council in the Republic Capital. He offered Artan a job that he thought would be perfect for their skill set. They accepted but they really didn't know what they were in for. That was when their life changed forever.

Artan started off by doing any errands for The Council that they needed done. Fetch this person, deliver this artifact, etc. They didn't mind much as they had a job like that before. But one day, a traitor was brought before The Council. Someone who was consulting with some not so favorable people in another country and caught to have been plotting with them. Artan thought that maybe The Council would throw the man in jail for the rest of his life, but instead, they were called and they were ordered to kill the man. Surprised, they didn't even react at first until their name was said yet again. They stepped forward slowly and were given a weapon. After a long moment, all the while The Council yelling at them to hurry up, they raised the weapon and chopped the mans head off. It was their first time killing anyone.

It was then that they were told that their job wasn't an errand person but instead The Council's personal assassin. Naturally, they were shocked by this news and probably would have quit if not for The Council telling them that they had already agreed to the job and, more importantly, they knew about their whole family and where they all lived. And if Artan didn't comply, they would just find another, better assassin to get rid of them. This, of course, made Artan stay and do their bidding. The killings they were made to do seemed unjust but they couldn't say anything about it. At one point, they were made to kill a whole small village because apparently some of them were stealing from others. This was the worst thing that The Council has made Artan do so far and it still keeps them awake at night. That was over 100 years ago. Most people don't remember the village anymore.
