14th of Dunra, 201 Prophecy
Much of Aqua's early years are lost, as all she can remember is little bits, pieces and flashes of living underwater in a somewhat happy family. But then it all ends suddenly, and in the aftermath of screams and people rushing everywhere there is only darkness. Aqua didn't remember her name or anything about where she had come from when she washed up on the shores of Silvermoor. Thankfully someone was nice enough to take the girl in and nurse her back to health by keeping her in one of the many pools of water that lined the rocky shoreline as she was found in her merfolk state and could not survive on dry land.
At first she was distrustful of the man who cared for her, hiding away in the depths of the pool when he approached and only daring to eat the food left by the edge for her once she was alone. But slowly she warmed up to this stranger, and over the course of a year's time they were on speaking terms.
The man was one of the few at the time who believed in the prophecy of the Chosen Ones, as he had been in Luminus when the prophecy had been foretold by one of the greatest Seers in the court of the Light Goddess. Many had brushed it off as the last words of an old woman before she died after being mistreated due to her powers, but some believed her words and knew to look for the signs of the Chosen Ones. The mark on Aqua's right shoulder, which the merhuman had always assumed was just an oddly shaped birthmark, was all the proof this man needed to believe and protect his new friend.
In time Aqua was strong enough and comfortable enough with the man to shift to her human form, allowing herself to be carried back to Silvermoor and hidden away with the person she now looked up to as the father that was missing from her memories. After that she kept her human form and became less uneasy with it, making sure to cover her shoulders well whenever she went out and never tell anyone else about the mark.
But Aqua was meant to be more than just a Chosen One. She began to see the dead, and as they reached out to her for help she could not stop herself from reaching back to them. There was a connection that was clearly meant to be, so Aqua went about obtaining all the material she could find on spirits, summoning and magic while at the same time practicing every chance she got with these skills. Yet that fascination eventually led to disaster, as Aqua one day accidentally summoned something that was just a little too powerful for her to control. The entity nearly destroyed the house before escaping, and though it caused no damage to Aqua or Silvermoor the then young merhuman felt horrid about unleashing such an evil into the world. She vowed to find it and send it back to the place she had summoned it from, and with the blessings of her 'father' set out on a journey.
Decades later Aqua tracked the being to Ironhold where it had spent its time gathering up followers in an old shrine near the base of the Xipil Volcano. This shrine was intentionally built to be immune to the constant lava flows from the very active volcano above it, and that made it nearly impenetrable to intruders. Aqua was smart, though, and disguised herself as one looking to join the followers. With this she managed to get inside with the rest of the group and catch them all off guard in the middle of a ceremony.
All his time in travel had not been spent simply searching, Aqua had also picked up many tricks to banishing demons and of course many weapons for fighting them. With one strike she killed the demon she had brought into the world, then summoned shadows to deal with its followers. Her skill had grown greatly, and it was not long before many wanted her to harness that skill for their own personal gain. Aqua had no qualms with this, but she made her terms very clear - anything he summoned would have a time limit on its existence in the realm of Eralon, and once that time was up the thing would vanish back to where it had come from. If her 'friends' were used for evil purposes Aqua vowed to kill all those involved and not rest until she did, and finally the more powerful the entity the more they would have to pay for him to summon it.
In this manner Aqua eventually found her way to Luminus, seeking out the daughter of the elf who had told the original prophecy. She was looking for answers about it, but when she walked in the door she felt something and knew she had found her Soul Mate. Sapphire had grown up in such a manner that she wasn't ever really told or taught about the idea of Soul Mates and was hesitant, so Aqua didn't push it and instead let things blossom between them naturally. After all it turned out her summoning skills were a perfect compliment for Sapphire's fortune telling and working together was for the benefit of them both.
They were happy to keep this up for a time until it became clear that Khelgard was moving to make the prophecy a reality. Knowing what that would mean for them, and despite how much it would hurt, the pair agreed to split up. Sapphire stayed behind in Luminus while Aqua returned to Ironhold where she'd heard that others were trying to bring back the demon she had killed or something of similar power so she figured that would be a perfect place to go.
