Max is extremely timid and aloof and rarely talks to anyone. A majority of the guards of his palace in the Grave have never spoken to him. Max is always worried about others and never really takes himself into consideration. He has a habit of asking his friends if they're okay. He despises the negative associations people have with him and would much rather be the personification of something pleasant, like peace or hope. He's also painfully serious and when he does make jokes, they're always sarcastic. He's usually quiet whenever he talks to anyone and sometimes flat-out forgets to respond verbally. Max is honest (most of the time), patient, down-to-earth, and dependable.

Max loves everything about Lucas. Lucas is the yang to his yin, the noise to his silence, and the neon to his grey. Their relationship is built off the thousands of years they've been together. Max could listen to him talk about his experiences for hours. Sometimes, Max tells Lucas about his insecurities, and Lucas always makes him feel better about himself. Lucas likes to take him out on "adventures" (cough cough dates cough cough) around the world and Max enjoys it when he babbles about how proud of humanity he is. Max simply wouldn't know what to do is Lucas was in a potentially fatal position. (Coincidentally, the entire story is about Lucas being in a potentially fatal position.)
