Mara Capulus
Sometimes called "Mari" or "Mar-Mar". Also referred as "Ray of sunshine" or "bookworm".
Side Character, Librarian
Female
21
Fairy.
Ocean Blue, similar to her hair color.
Wears it down with uneven bangs. Goes all the way down to her waist, with pieces sticking out. Straight, but frizzy because it's never brushed unless Iksu does (which he does attempt to do).
Roughly below 5 inches, but with her "Inch to Foot" spell is about 4'9".
Boney, because she doesn't eat enough.
Pale as a sheet.
Has an amazing memory, can strike fear into the hearts of men despite being so small, great long range shooter. Best at staring contests.
Is very, and bizarrely, still most of the time (doesn't twitch, fidget, bite her nails, run around, things you'd normally expect someone as caffeinated as her to do). Also has tendencies to space out into the depths of her subconscious without blinking for long periods of time. Never smiles.
Dust, broken pages, unorganized books, empty coffee cup, her library in general, living life the way she wants, Iksu.
UH... see personality??
Reading. Lots and lots of reading. No specific genre. Organizing her books, or just sipping her coffee while enjoying peace and quiet.
Mara is an incredibly indifferent and antisocial person. Some might say she's even a sociopath. She says whatever's on her mind and doesn't care what people think of her. She's very, VERY, easily annoyed, especially when it comes to sound, and says talkative people are the bane of her existence. She appears to put up with loud people outside of her library (besides looking absolutely dead inside), but if you set foot into her library and say even the quietest peep she will legit look like she'll kill you . She doesn't seem to care about anything besides reading, to the point of ignoring hygiene, sleep, and basic needs just so she can keep reading. And even despite this she never seems to get excited when starting a new book or upset when it ends. It's almost as if reading is the equivalent of breathing for her, it's not new or exiting, but if she stops she won't be able to continue living. And, as stated earlier, Mara is also extremely antisocial. She says she hates people, and doesn't have any friends. She even calls Iksu, the only friend she really has, a fly that won't stop buzzing around her, making it seem as if his company is unwanted and irking. In spite of this, Iksu stays by her side. Ginger, despite Mara's rudeness, also constantly visits and asks for advice.
Right now, Mara might seem like a terrible, heartless person. However, she isn't all bad, and would actually (probably) risk her life to protect Iksu's or Ginger's. In truth, before meeting Iksu, she was horribly lonely, and her self-esteem grew low because she felt no one could ever care for her. But after meeting him, and experiencing someone honestly worry about her, she had found her first friend, and wouldn't give him up for anything. Even if she's too prideful to express it.
Went to an average public school, but her incredible memory helped her finish her homework insanely quickly without a lot of effort. So, once when she was bored, she picked up a book. Then another. Then another. Then another until her brain was filled with stories, history, and random facts.
Mara was born into a pretty average fairy family. They weren't rich, but weren't poor either, so they could provide pretty well for their daughter. Both of her parents were very nice, friendly and polite people, so others often wondered how they gave birth to a sociopath.
People first started to realize Mara was different from the other fairy children during her first year of school. While the others played "pretend" or "dolls" she always watched instead of joining in. However her memory was perfect even then. When one little girl said, "Hey, you used that doll last time!" and the other said, "No! You had it last time!" Mara could tell them exactly who used what doll, where they played it, and what happened the last time without missing a single detail. Her amazing memory also helped her as she aged. She was able to commit everything they learned in class to memory so she didn't need to spend tons of time studying or with her homework. But of course this gave her copious amounts of free time, which since she really didn't have any other interests or hobbies, she spent either staring into space or sleeping. Terrified that their daughter's head might explode, her parents bought her some books to read. She read those. Then wanted to read more. So she spent her allowance on more books, and thus, an addiction that lasted her entire life began.
As vaguely mentioned, Mara slept quite a lot, and had a tendency to fall asleep at random. One minute she was wide awake listening to her teachers, the next she was on the ground or at her desk sleeping. This problem continued all throughout elementary and junior high. But her drowsiness became troublesome for her, for it would overcome Mara even when reading. Horrified that she couldn't read as much as she wanted to, Mara did something that would change her life forever. She tried coffee. Now it's a rarity to see her sleep at all.
Something else that worried her parents was that she had no friends. It's not that children didn't try to become friends with her, but her bluntness, warped sense of humor, and all-in-all disinterest in everything scared people away. However, she didn't seem to care. And as Mara grew older, she realized something else: she doesn't like people. So she built a wall between herself and others, because she thought she'd be happier that way. However, this wall stopped people from trying to befriend her at all, so despite being antisocial, she began to sink into loneliness and depression. But no one seemed to notice, since she didn't act any different than she had always been.
Around her second year of high school, her classmates began to look towards the future. Everyone seemed to be thinking about their careers, but Mara didn't have some big dream. It wasn't until a teacher of her's asked, "if you could do one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?" that she dawned on her. She answered, "Sit around in silence and read, and if anyone dares talk to me I can tell them to shut their trap." It was then that it hit her. She'd be librarian. But since there were no libraries in her area, she decided she'd have to start one. Her parents were extremely supportive of this endeavor, and so they began to fund-raise and spread the word. A year later, she met a strange newly-graduated elf named Iksu Lux. He also thought the idea of a library was phenomenal and asked if he could be her partner. Mara shot him down though, because he was too annoyingly enthusiastic and selfless. But, unlike everyone else Mara had encountered, Iksu didn't give up. He continued to try to befriend her, and when that failed, decided to talk with her parents instead. They immediately loved the elf and his contributions, and once Mrs. Capulus learned he had been staying in a hotel this whole time offered Iksu the guest room to stay in. This, of course, did not please Mara, but she quickly learned she had to deal with it because people were more willing to donate to their cause when peppy, adorable Iksu asked instead of grumpy, sleep-deprived Mara. And no matter what rude, terrible things she said to him, Iksu never stopped trying to earn her friendship. He walked her home from school and made her coffee almost everyday, not to mention constantly expressed his concern for her health and well-being. This didn't just bother her, but also helplessly confused her, since no one had ever done this for her before.
However, it wasn't long though before she realized she wasn't lonely anymore.
It also wasn't long before their dream of opening a library was complete! Together, despite Mara trying to do it by herself, they run the largest library in all of Adamah.
