Samson Gurai
Protagonist (parts 2 and 3)
male
Ridgeback
part 2: 15
part 3: 20-22
He has a stripe of thick hair going all the way down his back that stands up when he's nervous or angry; this is where Splinter Kade's nickname for him, "Ridgeback" originated. Besides that, he has a short fluffy tail, long canines, gold streaks in his hair, and abundant body hair.
160 lbs
6'0"
deep brown, with two gold streaks on each side of the top of his head
He has very spiky, voluminous hair that he wears any length between short to shaggy
He has the typical Islander qaltzan wispy hairs on his cheeks and chin that continues down his neck, but also regular human scruff, even from a young age. He usually has some stubble or scruff but rarely has an actual beard.
Very dark brown, basically black
50% Human (North Indian)
37.5% Islander Qaltzan (desert)
12.5% Mainlander Qaltzan (Kalist?)
light olive/beige
He hates most mind-altering drugs, but especially Wings, since they almost killed his mom and did kill his best friend.
He has a lot of unique abilities due to being a human/qaltzan hybrid, such as being able to greatly increase his abilities with magic without the detrimental effect it has on fully human bodies. He also is very unexpectedly strong for his build, because of a combination of Islander strength and human height.
Going outside and exploring new places, and leaving some tiny marking noting that he's been there
Samson has a good heart and worries about his friends, but can be very emotional at times, and his emotions can get the better of him. His behavior becomes more and more reckless as he ages. Deep down, he also feels like he doesn't actually belong anywhere due to being a hybrid. This stress can sometimes cause him to become bitter toward different people; humans when he lives in human civilization, qaltzan when he lives in qaltzan civilization, etc. Besides that, he is a good person and tries to lend a helping hand when he can. He embraces his unique strengths but feels as though people give him too much credit.
He tends to scratch the back of his head a lot when nervous, and tries to compensate for his strange Islander posture by standing very straight
Part 1: The early death of his best friend Ethan angered him to the point where he wanted to bring down all of Wings Operation.
Part 2: He is one of the few members of the population that stands any chance against the Fairy King, so he has no choice but to try and defeat him.
He has a short temper, and can lash out when angry by yelling or kicking things, etc. He also has identity issues due to being neither fully human nor fully qaltzan, and thus he believes he doesn't belong anywhere, which can lead him to believe that other people don't want him around or think of him as part of the group.

He was deported from human civilization when he was in 7th grade. After that, he wasn't educated much more in human topics, although he learned a lot of qaltzan knowledge and also general life/survival skills in Vyegas village.
Samson was born in the Breakthrough countryside on Alaka's and Reed's farm, basically in the middle of nowhere. His childhood was similar to Alaka's, going to a small school for farm kids, and spending a lot of time outside and working. He met his best friend Ethan at a very young age and they grew up together joined at the hip. He was strictly ordered to never tell anyone about his qaltzan descent, since it was illegal for qaltzans and hybrids to live in human civilization without government permission. However, he did tell Ethan, and Ethan was the only person who knew. As they grew older, Ethan got into drinking and doing some drugs, which greatly displeased Samson. Eventually, Ethan caved and tried Wings, which left Samson heartbroken, and he tried to stop him. However, soon after that, police came to his house and evicted him and Reed. Somehow they had found out about them. Alaka went with them and they were all deported back to Vyegas, Reed's original village. Samson was 12 at this time. His contact with human civilization was completely cut off, so he couldn't communicate with Ethan anymore. He went from being the cool kid at home to the clueless newcomer in the village, and was poked fun at for "being a qaltzan but not knowing anything", which led him to resent his qaltzan side. Three years later, he heard Ethan's voice outside, and saw the ghostly fog that was all that remained of him. Ethan had overdosed and was trying to make it to Fairy Lake to not die, but was too late. Samson saw him die and dissipate into nothing right in front of him. Bam, that's what kicks off Part 2. (Continued in Notes)
Part 2: Samson decides to avenge Ethan and personally take down Wings Operation. He originally intended to sneak off on his own and track them down, deciding what to do along the way, completely winging it basically, but Alaka heard him try to sneak out and take the armor. She tracked him down and actually managed to get ahead of him, so he ran into her. She didn't find him to bring him back home, no - she found him to help him take down Wings Operation. Together, the two went from village to village, looking for clues, relying on the villagers' kindness and scavenging from abandoned war bunkers for supplies. Finally, they tracked down WO. The hard part was that they were 2 people against a fairly large drug trafficking operation. Alaka had the bright idea of giving Samson Wings, the very drug they were trying to get rid of. Samson was of course extremely opposed given his prejudice, but Alaka assured him it was the best chance they had and he would be fine, since he was a hybrid. He reluctantly took them, but then became a rampaging, manic destruction machine. Samson wiped out the bulk of the operation while Alaka followed, taking care of the rest. Alaka maybe got hurt or something, idk, this part I'm still trying to figure out, but he teleported back to Vyegas just as the Wings were wearing off. Even though WO was a pretty scummy organization, the realization that he had murdered dozens of people haunted him ever since that day. He tried to be at peace with himself, especially since he was praised as a hero for ending WO, but the thoughts secretly haunted him, even into part 3.
