Lya can read surface thoughts (what is immediately in someone’s mind) and can manifest her own thoughts as illusions. The illusions can’t interact with the world, so she has to be clever for them to actually have an effect. In theory, Lya can read the surface thoughts of any target if she wants to, but she has bad experience with it. She believes no one should be in possession of that power.
Trust Issues, Insomnia, Mommy Issues, Abandonment Issues
Coralie is the second born daughter and crowned Princess of Cainhorn. Her mother (Raine) and older sister (Abilene) both died the day she discovered her power. Coralie accidentally activated her powers and read Raine’s mind. She learned of her mother’s plans to kill her father (Amias), and in a panic, confided in her sister. Abilene promised to handle it, leaving the glowing necklace with Coralie.
Shortly thereafter, Coralie heard Raine’s screams and discovered Abilene had killed her. Amias and the royal guards arrived at around the same time, and unfortunately Abilene made moves to resist. She was killed where she stood.
Coralie is very reliant on the people around her, but she also despises them. She keeps secrets from them. Ever since what happened to Abilene, she hasn’t trusted them to be able to handle the truths that she sees. She’s got one hell of a villain complex after her powers caused the death of her mother and sister, and that is really a problem when you’re expected to lead a country.
The confidence issues aren’t as severe as you would think, instead she loses confidence in other people’s decisions. Coralie is terrified of herself, but also of human nature. She believes she’s the only one who can handle this without breaking. Her arc is centered around trust.
Lya doesn’t trust anyone and she won’t allow herself to let go and just feel things. She’s terrified the moment she does she’ll end up exactly like her sister. Coralie’s afraid to mourn. The revelation that her mother was only trying to kill Amias to stop the Cosmos from overtaking Draya does not help the coping.
