Mal can create and manipulate fire, but she has no immunity to it. Although, after becoming blind, she has become more aware of the changes in heat in the environment around her.

Mallory was left in the woods outside of Lightridge (see Hadiya) and taken in by Ola and Eden Haigh, hence her namesake. They were good people, and her childhood was quite good until the fire. Her powers mysteriously activated- powers she rightfully didn’t know about considering the fact she is human- and destroyed the entire town and everyone in it. Out of panic, she attempted to rub her eyes free of tears and ash, but that left her blind from that day on.
Mal starts off cold and distant. She’s afraid of herself and what she could do if she feels. But, she also has severe abandonment issues since she was an orphan, adopted by parents that she accidentally killed. Mal is terrified of letting people get close, but she’s also terrified of letting go. But she’s not gonna be that assassin with a heart of gold and a low neckline because that cliche bores me.
She will never speak her mind, no matter what. Mal’s scared of what happens when she expresses herself and she can’t bear the thought of losing anyone else. She trusts easily but she doesn’t open up. Her arc centers around her grief and self image.
Mal believes she can’t mourn for Ola and Eden since she killed them, and that tears her apart. She doesn’t know her parents and she doesn’t know why she burns everything around her.
